That is exactly what the Tiger Paw Touring attempts to achieve. An all-season tire for compact cars, coupes, crossovers, and sedans, the main traits of this tire are great durability, high levels of comfort, all-season traction, and (you guessed it) a low price point.
If you look closely, you might notice that all these qualities are highly sought-after, especially by drivers whose daily routine takes them on a highway.
In theory, then, the Tiger Paw Touring offers everything to force the passenger cars’ owners to take notice.
Unfortunately, the reality is a little different. While this tire performs brilliantly on dry roads, its performance on wet surfaces does harm to its claim of being an all-season tire. Read on to find out why we think that’s the case.
What is it that differentiates this tire from other all-season models? To answer this question, we begin our review of the Uniroyal Tiger Paw Touring with a glance at its features. Once we have discussed them in detail, only then we’d take it for a test drive to see how those features translate in real-life.
Technologies
In case you were wondering, the fact that this model weighs lightly on your pocket doesn’t mean that it doesn’t have its fair share of high-end features. Uniroyal has equipped the Tiger Paw Touring with at least two technologies that set this tire apart from other budget all-season models.
Three Speed Ratings
Similar to other all-season tires that you may find on the market, the Tiger Paw Touring isn’t a one-trick pony. Different sizes of this tire come with different speed ratings to make sure that they could attract a wide base of drivers.
Treadwear indicators
All Uniroyal tires come with indicator bars at 2/32’’ of remaining read. When these tires become visible on any section of your tire – or when the tread wears all the way down to 2/32’’ – it’s a sign that the tire needs replacement.
However, if you aren’t sure where to find them, there’s always the option of having your vehicle inspected by your local Uniroyal tire retailer. They have a tread depth gauge which such authorized retailers use to measure your tire’s remaining tread.
How well does this tire perform on the dry tarmac? Does it slip on wet pavements? Can you trust it to carry you safely on a road buried under feet of snow? To answer all these (and more) questions, we took the Tiger Paw Touring on a test drive. Read on to know more about how it performed.
Regardless of the size which may fit your vehicle, all Tiger Paw Touring tires come with either 65,000 miles or a 75,000-mile warranty on their treadwear. Know why that’s the case? Well, that’s because of the Tru-form technology we discussed earlier.
A tire’s treadwear goes south when there are some points in the tread which experience more pressure (stress) than others. The Tru-Form technology, meanwhile, doesn’t allow this to happen. It evenly distributes the tire’s pressure to prevent the buildup of any stress points in the first place.
Then comes the Dura Shield technology.
As stated earlier, it reinforces the tire’s steel belts by supplementing them with a heavy gauge inner liner. Even if you frequently travel on poorly built roads, both these features would ensure the tire maintain its optimum shape, thereby making it durable.
When we’re gauging the dry performance of any tire, we always have a four-pronged criterion: braking power, traction, cornering, and high-speed stability. Impressively for a budget tire, the Tiger Paw Touring ticked all these four boxes with aplomb.
Even when you’re driving it at its speed limit, the tire would continue to provide ample grip when cornering. Perhaps that’s why we had no problems with its braking, though each driver has their own style and there might be some of you won’t like its huge traction.
This tire performs so supremely on dry roads, in part, due to its shoulder tread block design. It empowers the tire’s external blocks to stay rigid under pressure, thereby improving its performance.
Similar is the case with this tire’s braking power which relies on its friction to remain exceptional.
Uniroyal was particularly concerned when designing this tire for wet surfaces. The reason we’re aware of this fact is that its full depth channels didn’t allow us to draw any other conclusion. Even when you’re driving through deep puddles, they make sure that the tire’s contact with the road remains optimal.
Perhaps that’s why we didn’t experience hydroplaning when driving this tire under the rain. Its well-rounded channels adequately feel water through its circumference, to make sure it stays in contact with the ground, thereby removing any chances of any untoward incident.
Reasonable but not amazing. That’s the impression we had when we drove this tire in light, compressible snow. Since it is a little softer than your average all-season tire, the Tiger Paw Touring has that flexibility which you need in winter conditions.
Its center channels, meanwhile, are wide enough to physically grip the ground in conditions where other summer tires would falter. Still, it’s worth remembering that you aren’t looking at a full-blown snow tire here – those which have indents dotting the entire circumference.
Rather, the best these tires can do is to get you safely across roads that are blanketed with soft snow. Increase the rate or concentration of the snow, and we won’t recommend taking out these tires for a drive.
What do you expect from a tire which is made of soft and compressible rubber? Before you answer this question, consider this piece of information: the tire has many large blocks to make sure it maintains its contact with the road at all times.
If you have taken some time to process the information, you might arrive at the same conclusion as we did after driving them: the Tiger Paw Touring doesn’t make for a hugely comfortable ride. That means that the passengers should be ready for a slightly harder ride.
In other words, you’d always get a tire that operates more quietly (and smoothly) than this one. Though, those tires would always fare worse in snow and rain, provided they are available at the same price as the Tiger Paw Touring.

All in all, the Uniroyal Tiger Paw Touring is a dependable all-season tire that can hold its own under most scenarios. From dry pavements to snow-laded tracks, this tire won’t force you to consider an alternative. However, if you want to take advantage of its all-track utility, you should be prepared in your mind for a slightly harder ride.

When it comes to purchasing a new set of tires, the main aspect that most people are looking at is the application.
If you spend a lot of time on the track or drive a sports car, then you’ll be looking at a performance tire. SUV or truck owners may want something capable of off-roading. Regardless of that, there is one tire that can be applied for every scenario – touring.
These kinds of tires are the ones you’d get if you drive a lot and want to emphasize comfort and longevity. As a result, it means that you will be sacrificing the ultimate grip, which in most cases is fine. Despite my enthusiasm for driving, I’d still want a comfortable and quiet tire over one that will grip like it’s glued.
In the tire industry, every brand has at least one touring option. Depending on the manufacturer, you may find more models with different properties. Regardless of that, the performance of these tires will generally depend on the brand itself. Since they can range from cheap to premium, you can expect different performance levels, depending on how much you pay for the tires.
Today’s model comes from a local company called Uniroyal.
To be honest, the brand never reached the popularity of some of the premium brands, but it does have some advantages. Falling in the mid-range category with Hankook, General, and a few others, it offers well-performing models at an affordable price. Technically, you get what you pay for, and in this case, you will sacrifice a bit of performance for a lower price.
The tire I’ll be focusing on is the Tiger Paw Touring A/S, an affordable all-season touring tire built to last long, according to Uniroyal’s claims.

Uniroyal’s parent company is Michelin, meaning that you can expect some of the technologies to be used.
With that said, keep in mind it’s a budget-oriented tire, so don’t expect some of the fancy stuff from the premium brand.
To ensure consistent performance in multiple weather conditions, Uniroyal used a special rubber compound. Unlike a summer tire, the Tiger Paw Touring A/S shouldn’t harden in winter conditions, providing decent performance.
Wet performance is another area that Uniroyal paid attention to. You get 4 wide circumferential grooves and countless sipes to the sides. The result of this approach should be excellent aquaplaning resistance leading to better traction in rainy conditions.
The Tiger Paw Touring A/S is also tweaked for dry performance. Uniroyal went with a symmetric tread design, whose task is to increase the contact patch, which should offer improved grip and traction. In terms of stability, the tire’s central rib is designed to provide more stability at higher speeds.
Snow performance isn’t forgotten, and thanks to the M+S rating, the Tiger Paw Touring A/S should be usable in snowy conditions.
Size options aren’t a feature I mention often, but in the case of Tiger Paw Touring A/S, I’ll make an exception. The sizes range from 14 to 22 inches, and Uniroyal claims that the tire can be fitted to 80% of cars driven in the US.
Dry performance with the Tiger Paw Touring A/S is good, just as you’d expect from a mid-range touring tire.
There is plenty of traction even for more powerful cars, meaning that the tire won’t slip too often. It’s a similar story with the levels of grip. There is plenty for even when you go into a corner a bit more aggressively. With that said, keep in mind that it’s not a UHP tire, so the grip and traction levels aren’t infinite.
The driving dynamics of the Tiger Paw Touring A/S are well above average in this class. You’ll get a decent amount of responsiveness, much more than its cheaper counterparts.
In terms of braking, the Tiger Paw Touring A/S can stop in a relatively short distance, which is on par with the rest of the tires in this category.
The Tiger Paw Touring A/S isn’t as impressive on wet roads as I thought it would be. I wouldn’t classify it as the worst, but there are better performers in its class.
When it comes to traction and grip, the Tiger Paw Touring A/S isn’t the tire that should be your first choice, especially for powerful cars. Both are limited, meaning that you’ll need to be a bit more cautious in these conditions.
On the other hand, aquaplaning resistance is not as bad. The tire’s grooves and sipes are decent at water evacuation, so the tire remains stable and planted.
The M+S rating on the Tiger Paw Touring A/S enables it to be driven on snow, but only to a point.
Uniroyal designed it with a zig-zag pattern, which gives the tire the biting properties it needs for snow-covered roads. The problem is that the performance isn’t outstanding, so the traction can be limited at times.
Braking distances aren’t something to write home about.
They aren’t unsafe or extremely long, but there are better performers in this category.
Traction on ice and hard-packed surfaces aren’t particularly good. Even though the tire can bite in, it doesn’t have enough traction to be called decent. In any case, all-season tires are designed for limited snow performance, and that’s exactly what the Tiger Paw Touring A/S can offer.
This is the area where the Tiger Paw Touring A/S has one positive and one negative side.
Comfort levels are decently good, considering the price range of the tire. It can handle bumps pretty well and over a decently smooth ride. Yes, you will notice vibrations in the cabin in specific scenarios, but things aren’t terrible.
Noise levels are the aspect of the tire that I’m not a huge fan of. Compared with its rivals, the Tiger Paw Touring A/S isn’t as quiet, especially noticeable at higher speeds.
The Tiger Paw Touring A/S is a touring tire, so the off-road performance is almost nonexistent.
There are some scenarios where it may be fine, but not as much as a proper off-road tire.
Dirt roads won’t be too big of an issue for the Tiger Paw Touring A/S, and it may have some traction. Keep in mind that it will be limited, so don’t push it. Even though it is M+S rated, mud performance isn’t something that the tire can brag with.
Enthusiasts won’t be pleased with the Tiger Paw Touring A/S, considering it’s not the absolute best tire for sporty driving. Even in the touring segment, some models can perform better.
Responsiveness isn’t the issue with the tire, as it is decently quick to take steering inputs. It’s not a high-performance level, but it can pass. Feedback, on the other hand, isn’t something that the tire knows well. You will be informed through the steering wheel about what’s happening with the front tires, but unfortunately, it will be a muted feeling.
At first glance, the Tiger Paw Touring A/S seems to be near the top regarding warranty.
Uniroyal offers a 75,000- treadwear warranty for a budget-friendly tire in the mid-range segment.
A similarly priced tire is the Hankook Kinergy PT, which comes with a 90,000-mile warranty, which is among the highest in the industry.
To be honest, not as much as I was hoping for. Prices start from a little under $70 for the smallest 14-inch models. With that said, the Hankook Kinergy PT I mentioned previously is only a tad more expensive but offers more.
Even though the Tiger Paw Touring A/S isn’t the worst tire in the touring segment, it shouldn’t be your first choice. It does have some decent performance in specific scenarios, but there are similarly priced slightly better tires.
Dry performance is not the issue, as the tire can provide plenty of traction and grip for everyday driving. Once it starts raining, the tire begins to underperform when compared with its rivals.
Like most all-season tires, the winter traction is limited, so it’s not something new.
For the price, the Tiger Paw Touring A/S is decently comfortable, making it a good touring tire. the problem is that it can get quite noisy, especially on the highway.
Since it’s a touring tire, the sporty driving characteristics are a bit limited for hard-core enthusiasts.
Overall, I would say that the Tiger Paw Touring A/S is a good tire, but not for that price. The Hankook Kinergy PT is slightly more expensive but offers better performance, especially in wet. If you find a good discount on the Tiger Paw Touring A/S, then it’s not a bad option.
