ARGO ATV models have been around since the 1960s. Ontario Drive & Gear is a Canadian manufacturer and it made its first 6-wheel amphibious vehicle in 1967 that was dubbed the Amphiat.
By 1971, an eight-wheeled ARGO ATV was unveiled, which at the time offered the greatest cargo capacity on the market and was powered by a 440cc Kohler engine.
The ARGO ATV family continued to evolve and grow throughout the decades with a wide variety of machines that were equally at home on land and water. ARGO’s first traditional ATV, the Xplorer, was unveiled in 2017.
Xplorer XR 500
Though they don’t feature the classic ARGO amphibious abilities, the Xplorer ATV family is designed for those looking for a straddle-seat ARGO ATV. The most affordable of these are the Xplorer XR models. Each features a 503cc single-cylinder engine, 13.2 inches of ground clearance, independent double A-arm suspension, engine braking, Innova tires, and two-inch receiver hitch. Upgrade to the XR 500 LE and you get cast-aluminum wheels, front brushguard, electronic power steering, and a 3000-pound winch. Prices start at $6799.
Xplorer XRT 500
The Xplorer XRT 500 and 500 LE share the same features as the XR models, but the chassis has been stretched out with a 57-inch wheelbase and a rear passenger seat has been added. Prices start at $7999.
Xplorer XR 570/XRT 570
The newest member of the Argo XR ATV family, the XR 570 is a one-up machine that gets its power from a 561cc single-cylinder engine, so you get some extra power over the entry-level 500. Feature-wise, the ATVs share pretty much everything in common outside of the engine. Two-up riders can opt for the Xplorer XRT 570. Prices start at $7499.
Xplorer XRT 1000 LE
The flagship of the traditional ARGO ATV family is the Xplorer XRT 1000 LE. Powered by a 997cc twin-cylinder engine, the 1000 LE comes standard with aluminum wheels, power steering, front differential lock, rear passenger seat, 3000-pound winch, 1300-pound towing capacity, and 264 pounds of front and rear rack capacity. Prices start at $12,399.
Frontier Series
The Frontier Series is ARGO’s most affordable line of amphibious vehicles. The base Frontier 600 6×6 features six wheels, an 18-horsepower V-Twin engine, and has a load capacity of 595 lbs on land and 395 lbs on water. The Frontier 650 6×6 relies on a more robust 23-horsepower V-Twin. The Frontier 700 6×6 has a 23-horsepower V-Twin and a load capacity of 570 lbs on land and 370 lbs on water. The Frontier 700 Scout 6×6 adds a front bumper, cargo rack, and 2500-pound winch. The Frontier 650 8×8 produces 23 horsepower and has a load capacity of 855 lbs on land and 755 lbs on water. The Frontier 700 8×8 produces the same power, is offered with a standard or high-torque transmission. Finally, the Frontier 700 Scout 8×8 adds a front bumper, cargo rack, and winch. Prices range from $10,599 to $20,399.
Aurora Series
The Aurora Series consists of nine different ARGO ATV models, each outfitted with eight wheels for maximum carrying capacity. The base Aurora 800 SX is powered by a 30-horsepower liquid-cooled V-Twin and boasts an Admiral transmission with ARGO Progressive steering, while the Aurora 800 SX Huntmaster adds camo paint and front brushguard with a 3500-pound winch and the 800 SX-R includes a Roll Over Protective Structure (ROPS). Move up to the Aurora 850 SX features and you get a 33-horsepower V-Twin engine, 1100-pound load capacity on land, 800-pound load capacity on water, 25-inch tires, and 9-inch AirLock rims. The Aurora 850 SX Huntmaster adds camo paint, front bumper, cargo rack, and 3500-pound winch. The Aurora 850 SX-R is the same model as the SX, but adds a Roll Over Protection Structure. The Aurora 950 SX offers up a 40-horsepower V-Twin engine, but is otherwise very similar to the 850 SX. There are also 950 SX Huntmaster and SX-R models. Prices start at $25,899.
Conquest Series
The Conquest series of ARGO ATV models is designed for serious work…and a bit of fun. The Conquest 800 Outfitter is ARGO’s hunting machine and it features a 30-horsepower V-Twin engine, room for eight passengers (four on the water), 4500-pound winch, cargo rack, and front brush guard. The Conquest 950 Outfitter bumps things up with a 40-horsepower V-Twin. Prices start at $36,799.

Remove the word “inaccessible” from your vocabulary
The cross-country ability of an amphibious all-terrain vehicle can be envied by a caterpillar tractor, and in terms of maneuverability it will outdo any quadric. At the same time, the amphibian is equally good both on land and on water. What we were convinced of by testing the novelty of the market - the eight-wheeled Tinger Armor W8.
Dmitry Zlenko
When you see the Tinger Armor W8 live, we are sure you will have the feeling that it was created by perfectionists. The desire for absolute perfection can be seen not only in the appearance of the all-terrain vehicle, but also in every detail, down to some worthless button, which does not catch the eye, but looks like it was borrowed from a very expensive foreign car.
You will say that in China they can do anything and very beautifully, but how high quality and durable will it be? A perfectly reasonable remark. But not applicable to Tinger. The fact is that the creators of the Russian all-terrain vehicle did not set themselves the task of making some analogue of the well-known Canadian amphibian Argo out of cheap Chinese components. Ours, on the contrary, started from the idea of developing and building an original all-terrain vehicle, not similar in characteristics to anything else, not inferior, but in some ways even superior to the eminent classmate not only in terms of reliability, but also in terms of ergonomics, as well as production culture. And, paradoxically, the Russians did it! Tinger Armor W8 gives the impression of a very solid and expensive car, but at the same time it costs significantly less than its Canadian counterpart.
The secret of success is that the "Tingerites" went their own way, creating six years ago in the "steel capital" of Russia - in Cherepovets - a full-fledged all-terrain production, and not a workshop for the screwdriver assembly of "Chinese semi-finished products". The amphibious frame, hull, running gear elements, interior - all this is produced at the plant's own facilities from domestic raw materials, thanks to which, even in a financial crisis, the manufacturer manages to maintain an acceptable level of prices for its products and not be overly dependent on the exchange rate of world currencies.
"Heart" from China
The engines of this company have proven themselves quite well and, let's say, today they represent the best value for money. By the way, Tinger Armor is available in three engine options: 2-cylinder 600 cc power plant with a capacity of 35. 4 “horses”; 3-cylinder engine, with a volume of 812 cubic centimeters with a agility of 57 "mares" and the final version - a 4-cylinder, 1100 cc "fiery heart" with a capacity of 68 hp.
As a matter of fact, we tested the modification with the most accessible engine. The liquid-cooled injection motor runs smoothly and quietly, starts without the slightest problem in any weather (the manufacturer promises a confident start in the temperature range from -40 to +40 Celsius!). It is rather difficult to answer the question of whether the engine is enough or not, because in the case of an amphibious all-terrain vehicle, the decisive role is played not so much by the engine as by the gearbox, together with the variator. We can say one thing: there was no shortage of power and torque, even when taking an almost sheer climb, at all. Unless when driving in a straight line I wanted more dynamics and maximum speed. The throttle knob was completely unscrewed, but our amphibian did not want to rush faster than 55 km / h. In the end, I had to come to terms with the fact that the Tinger Armor W8 is not a racing car. Well, then let's see what kind of all-terrain vehicle it is?
You have to pay for amenities
We find a real, foul-smelling swamp in the wilds of the forest, into which it’s not just climbing, but scary to look at. An ordinary ATV would not have traveled a meter here, having disappeared along with the handlebars in a quagmire. We unscrew the gas and at full speed we drive into the liquid. Logically, we should have been covered by a wave, but we must pay tribute to the designers of Tinger Armor: the front of the hull has a geometry that virtually eliminates the ingress of liquid and dirt into the cabin, even with a sharp entry into the water. Well, in order to absolutely not get wet, you can slightly unload your wallet and install a branded rigid frame with a roof, doors and a windshield. Well, for those who want to feel at home on board the all-terrain vehicle, the manufacturer is ready to offer a cabin heater. Agree, an extremely useful option for the Russian winter.
Another interesting addition to the amphibian that deserves attention is the Tinger's own developed trailer. The Tinger T4 trailer is not some cart for you, but in a sense an anatomical continuation of an amphibian. He knows how to swim, and a load of 300 kg is by no means a reason for him to sag below the waterline. The trailer is suitable for both carrying luggage and people. Moreover, the trailer has a twist: its seats can be transformed into a sleeping place for two in a matter of seconds. A very useful option for hunters and fishermen.
Hand over the mooring lines!
Tinger's water speed is relatively low. Crawls at most five kilometers per hour. But it is better, as they say, to sail badly on the engine than to row well with oars. The low speed is quite understandable, because the wheels with a not very deep tread act as the driving force. It seems that for those who are going to get a "Tinger" for fishing trips, a transom for an outboard motor will be a useful option. I got to the reservoir, lowered the Veterok - and you are guaranteed 10-12 km / h. For hunters, a set of tracks that are mounted directly on the wheels will be much more useful.
Permeability increases many times!
Let's talk about the pilot's workplace. The seat truly deserves "five points", in such a commander's chair you can spend more than one hour without getting tired. As for the control, it differs from the standard, to what we are used to seeing on amphibians. But it's different for the better. Do you imagine the steering wheel on a moped? So, the Tinger Armor W8 is almost the same. To go, you just unscrew, as if on a motorcycle, the right handle and the all-terrain vehicle obediently went forward. Do you need to turn around? There is nothing easier - like on a regular scooter, you turn the steering wheel in the right direction and the motion vector is changed. The Tinger Armor W8 has a really unusual, but, most importantly, damn ergonomic control system for an amphibian. Provided that the wheels, as on all machines of this class, do not turn, but simply the left and right sides rotate at different speeds, which ensures turns.
Tinger Armor W8 is a very interesting amphibian. Good on the outside, well-tailored on the inside and generally looks definitely more expensive than its price. Against the background of competitors, it stands out with a sparing price list and a solid assortment of additional equipment. In addition, Tinger Armor W8 replaces several types of equipment at once: an ATV, a swamp, a fishing boat and even a snowmobile.
