Can-am servicing: why it's so important

Powersports

Being the proud owner of a Can-Am is not only a (well worth it) good sized-investment, it’s also a responsibility to ensure that investment offers a long-term return. Of course, most of your time is going to be spent (literally) enjoying the ride, but some of your time as a Can-Am parent needs to be spent on the TLC of your ATV. With winter on its way, it’s important to know why you need to maintain and service your Can-am, how to keep it well maintained, and why it’s especially nifty to do so in the colder months.

Ok, so give me the why…

Like any maintenance required on a vehicle, the servicing (professional and DIY) is to keep it in tip top condition. Especially with vehicles like ATVs, they are made for thrashing over rough terrain which makes them equally durable and exposed to beyond average conditions. Every time you skip a maintenance check or a servicing, you’re denying your future self an epic ride.

Keep it clean

We’ve mentioned this about the maintenance of your Sea-Doo and KTM before; but the very best ongoing way to keep your Can-Am in good condition is to clean it after every use. You don’t want something as easy to initially remove as debris, mud and dirt to compound and be a bigger issue down the track. Nothing fancy, just use soapy water with a soft sponge and spray down to get rid of whatever has stuck to it on your ride. Don’t forget to check under the Can-Am too.

Maintain the battery

In winter, especially if you live in areas that hit close to 0℃ or below overnight, you should try and keep your battery on charge when not in use. If in storage or used regularly, turning your ATV on in icy conditions on a less than fully charged battery can really suck the life out of it. This is particularly so if you have an older battery; it can be the final straw to its going caput. Unlike your phone, it’s not going to keep working at capacity right to the end. Batteries slowly degrade, and letting the battery life slip will only exacerbate how quickly that happens, especially in the cold.

Check your tyres

Your Can-Am experience is pretty heavily reliant on the health of your tyres. Just like your car, even a tiny deflation can be a big problem if not fixed ASAP. Make it a habit of checking the tyre’s density before and after each ride. Because of the tread on ATVs, you’re unlikely to see any pressure disparity with the naked eye, or even by pressing on it. To make sure your checks are accurate and the tyres have the ideal pressure for your specific Can-Am (your user manual will indicate this), use a pressure gauge.

Of course, if pressure is low due to a puncture, replace the tyre before your next ride.

It’s not just the pressure you need to check, though. Keeping from riding with balding tread is as important in your ATV as it is in your car, and for much the same reason. In the winter, you’re going to encounter different terrain to the summer months, including icy conditions. You don’t want to end up in a crash just because your tread wasn’t monitored well enough.

Service, service, service!

As always, regular services are an absolute must. At Sutto’s, we offer all the services your vehicle requires, including the winterisation of it. From oil changes to brake checks, we cover everything on your KTV to keep it fun for you, as well as safe. And, it’ll save you in the long run. Paying the fees for incremental servicing will save you a whole lot of money when it prevents higher risk of full replacement of parts or, worse, entire ATVs.

A serviced Can-Am is a happy Can-Am.

Maintenance Renegade

Renegade ATVs are powerful machines designed specifically for sporty riders and off-road racing enthusiasts. Perfect handling and maneuverability of equipment, together with high power, make this line of the brand the leader in its class of motorcycle equipment. The technical characteristics of the line are suitable for high-speed races on the tracks, as well as for traveling through swampy terrain or muddy areas.

The range is equipped with Rotax branded engines with fuel injection, including a modification for severe conditions of complete off-road. The maximum power of the Renegade engine is 91 hp. An efficient CVT works together with the engine for your success on any track.

The heavy-duty SST G2 ATV tubular frame, designed by the brand's leading design engineers, provides high reliability and safety at any speed. The suspension combines an independent A-arm part along with the brand's signature rear suspension. The TTI rear suspension allows only vertical wheel movement with no additional movement for high stability on difficult terrain and full control of the machine by the driver. FOX sports shock absorbers provide a soft landing, guaranteeing a high energy intensity of the suspension.

The Renegade range is suitable for all-season operation, so every year the equipment is subjected to high loads. Despite the powerful bumper and rugged bodywork, ATVs are often used in harsh conditions with many obstacles and are subject to accelerated wear when participating in themed races. In the process of off-road driving, mechanical damage to parts can occur, in addition, all components are subject to natural wear.

Renegade repairs and maintenance should be left to the professionals. Unprofessional service, the use of non-original parts or factory defects become the reasons for the repair of equipment that has not been actively used. The masters of our service center will be able to quickly restore working capacity - we carry out repairs, maintenance and tuning of the entire model range of BRP brand equipment. When repairing specific models, our masters take into account the driving style, as well as the operating conditions of motor vehicles.

Renegade owners often experience the following types of failures during active use on difficult trails:

  • Undercarriage failures. Wear of elements occurs under heavy loads, as well as during trips over rough terrain. High loads are especially often received by the rear axle of the machine. Travelers, hunters and fishermen face overloads as a result of transporting goods - even though the winch mechanism is electrical, the elements can wear out. The main signals of the need for repair include knocking, grinding of metal, hum, tapping of the rear axle while the ATV is moving. Often the rear wheels jam or play appears. These defects are associated with axle deformation, failure of bearings, seals or hub splines;
  • Plastic damage. The main reasons are hits on large stones or tree stumps, the passage of pits and other difficult sections on the track;
  • Motor defects. Due to active operation, the power unit may not start due to insufficient traction or due to fuel contamination. Typical causes are minimal battery charge, no spark, flooded spark plugs, battery dead, no compression, overheating, or loss of power. Defects encountered by Renegade owners should only be repaired by professionals to maintain high performance;
  • CVT belt failure. Harbingers of repair - the appearance of the smell of burnt rubber. Urgent repair is required when the belt slips, the speed of the machine drops sharply.

Frequent, aggressive driving in difficult conditions, as well as lack of timely maintenance, can lead to a fuel leak - the main sign of a broken tank or fuel hose. Passage of mud routes with obstacles often leads to leaks from the carburetor, changing the position of the locking needle.

Renegade Professional Repair

Renegade diagnostics provide critical information for repairing failed components, not the entire assembly. Our masters use precise equipment with modern diagnostic systems and work according to the regulations established by the manufacturer of the equipment.

Renegade service includes:

  • performing computer diagnostics to find defects of any complexity;
  • oil change in the motor, gearbox and gearbox;
  • checking the condition and performance of spark plugs;
  • complete replacement of the oil filter;
  • Perform valve adjustment;
  • replacement of spark plugs;
  • maintenance and replacement of the air filter;
  • checking the level of coolant, brake fluid;
  • checking the tightness of the cooling system;
  • lubrication through the grease fittings of the main suspension arms;
  • checking and adjusting the wheelbase toe.

The masters of our service center will quickly check the current condition of all Renegade components and mechanisms. All manipulations with the equipment are agreed with the customer - we give a guarantee for the work performed.

To extend the life of the equipment and increase the working life of the engine, it is important to regularly change the oil with an oil filter. The masters of our service center use high-quality lubricants that are specified by the manufacturer and affect the operation of the fuel system in the best way.

The oil change procedure must be combined with scheduled maintenance work - we recommend that you contact the masters at the end of each season. Before the onset of cold weather, equipment must undergo special preparation for subsequent storage.

Our service guarantees quality maintenance, tuning and repair of the entire range of BRP ATVs. Masters restore all systems of the car, increasing the working resource to conquer any tracks. Accurate diagnostics of Renegade with the help of modern systems allows you to quickly detect any defects at the initial stage and eliminate them before the appearance of global problems.
