But, as a rule, everyone starts with the wheels, installing tires of a larger diameter instead of the standard rubber. The AvtoVzglyad portal found out how harmful such tuning is and why it is impossible to install large tires.

It's no secret that almost all cars look less impressive on standard tires, as if they were shod with larger diameter tires. Some automakers even allow it. True, the price for a set of tires larger than an inch or two can deplete the car owner's wallet quite a lot. Indeed, in some cases, you will have to change disks as well. But even this does not stop fans from looking cool on the road. And then, everything is like with inflating lips - every time it seems that if only a size larger, the wheels would not interfere with my car. And here, as in the case of lips, many are mistaken, not having an idea of what consequences await them.
To begin with, it is worth recalling that wheels of a larger diameter, not permitted by the automaker and not listed in the operational documentation, are prohibited for installation by the technical regulations of the Customs Union. About all sorts of "welding" and other "self-propelled guns" are out of the question at all - it is strictly prohibited. And yet, they put! Because how to invent laws is one thing. But keeping track of them is a completely different thing. Well, if so, let's see what else threatens the installation of wheels of non-standard diameter.
So, if the installation of tires with a dimension greater than the permissible one includes, among other things, the replacement of disks, then this, first of all, entails an increase in the mass of the wheel as a whole. In turn, this puts a strain on the engine - it will need more energy to spin the heavier wheels. Consequently, fuel consumption increases, dynamics worsens, suspension elements that are designed for a certain load wear out faster.

As the diameter of the rims increases, so does the width and the depth of the rims in the wheel arches. Returning to the increased load, remember that any car has wheel bearings that oh so feel these changes. So, we are preparing for the fact that with the installation of heavier wheels, their resource will be significantly reduced.
The weight of the tires themselves is also different - rubber of a larger diameter is naturally heavier. And this also goes to the treasury of unsprung masses. If you want a larger wheel diameter without compromising the clearance in the wheel arches, then, as a rule, when installing new wheels, they put rubber with a lower profile on them. And this, friends, is a direct road to driving discomfort - the low profile goes noticeably harder on the asphalt, reading all the small bumps in detail.
Low-profile tires also have poor grip in impact loads. And this is again damage to the discs and suspension. In addition, the risk of damage to low-profile “rollers” is significantly higher than higher tires. Yes, and flying on wider tires in heavy rain is more likely due to the tendency of the latter to aquaplaning.
But that's not all. Larger diameter wheels compensate for the inaccuracy of the speedometer, which initially overestimates the real speed by several kilometers. If the wheels are much larger, then the inaccuracy of the readings will no longer be in favor of the car owner.
If you decide to put bigger wheels on your car, do it wisely. Check the technical documentation and read the recommendations of the car manufacturer. Install tires and wheels only of approved sizes. Then do not harm the car, and its appearance will satisfy you completely. After all, here, as with lips, it is important not to overdo it.
