How much does goodyear charge to install tires

5 Things To Know Before You Buy

Replacing the tires on your car is an unavoidable yet necessary expense. Where you buy your tires can make a big difference when it comes to pricing, quality and services.

In this article, I’ll take a close look at Walmart’s tire center: an affordable and convenient option for buying tires. I researched the process and pricing at Walmart’s tire center to get an idea of what you can expect as well as how it compares to other popular tire stores.

Walmart’s Tire Center: What You Need To Know

Walmart is a convenient place to find good prices on nearly anything, including tires. If your local Walmart has an auto care center, you’ll likely find great prices there on tires and installation as well as other automotive services. Plus, you can order your tires online.

In addition to great prices, you’ll also find a variety of brands. When I checked out the selection online at Walmart, I found tires from Goodyear, Cooper, Douglass, Pirelli, Bridgestone, Continental, Michelin and more.

Before you order your next set of tires, consider these five things about Walmart’s tire center:

  • How It Works
  • Pricing
  • Installation
  • Return Policy & Warranty Information
  • Final Thoughts

Below, you’ll find detailed information about Walmart’s auto care center including how to shop for tires, how the prices compare to other tire centers, how to schedule your installation and how to maximize your savings.

How To Buy Tires at Walmart

There are two ways customers can buy tires from Walmart: in-store or online.

If you’re looking to shop in-store, you can use the online store finder to locate the nearest Walmart with an auto care center. From there, an associate can help you find the right tires for your vehicle.

You can also shop at Walmart.com. By shopping online, you’ll be able to browse to company’s full selection of tires whether you’re near an auto care center or not. If you purchase your tires online, you can order them for same-day pickup (where available). You can also have them shipped for free directly to your door or the Walmart store of your choice.

When you first visit Walmart’s online tire center, you’ll see the option to use the “Tire Finder” at the top of the page. For most of us, the tire finder tool will be the easiest way to find a selection of tires that will fit your car. To get started, click “Input your car’s info now.”

Advertisement

From there, you can search by size or by clicking “Add vehicle.” You should be able to find the intended tire size for your vehicle in the owner’s manual, but when you click “Add vehicle,” you just need to know the year, make and model of your car

Once you’ve entered your vehicle information, you’ll be able to browse the selection of tires that fit your car. You can use the filters on the left-hand side of the screen to narrow your search results by brand, price, tire season, rating, special offers and more. You can also sort your results by price, popularity, rating and other factors by using the “Sort by” feature at the top of the screen.

Once you’ve found a selection of tires that fit, you can click on specific tires for additional information including pickup/shipping timelines, installation availability and product details.

After you’ve made your selection, you can add the tires to your online shopping cart and enter your billing and shipping information. If you plan on having your tires installed at a Walmart auto care center, you can have the tires sent there instead. You will need to call the center to schedule your installation.

How Much Are Tires at Walmart?

Compared to other stores, Walmart offers the lowest average prices on tires with a median per-tire price of $102. For my 2017 Toyota Camry, tire prices ranged from $50.22 to $180.90 each plus one higher-end option for $210.56.

Consumer Reports polled nearly 50,000 of its subscribers to ask about cost, selection, sales service and perks when it came to purchasing new tires. Below, you’ll see how Walmart’s average prices and ratings compared to other popular tire stores:

StoreMedian Tire PriceInstallation Price (Per Tire)Consumer Reports Score
Walmart$103$1580
Sam's Club$143$2085
BJ's Tire Center$144$2086
Town Fair Tire Centers$148$2383
Firestone Complete$159$2787
Discount Tire Direct$161$2290
Goodyear$161$2688
Tire Rack$163$2491
Costco$168$1791

As you can see, Walmart offers the lowest average per-tire price compared to Sam’s Club, Discount Tire Direct, BJ’s Tire Center and Costco.

In addition to great prices, Walmart says it offers price matching if you find a better deal on an identical item from a qualifying retailer. To see the full details and limitations, check out Walmart.com’s Price Match Policy online. To submit a price match request, contact Walmart Customer Care before placing your order.

Finally, be sure to check out the “Special Offers” section on the left-hand side of the Walmart.com tire center webpage. There, you’ll find rebates, clearance items. gift card bundles and other ways to save money on tires.

How Much Does Walmart Charge To Install Tires?

If you purchase your tires from Walmart or Walmart.com, you can get your tires installed at a Walmart Auto Care Center for $15 per tire. That means you’ll be looking at a total of $60 for basic installation on four tires.

If you need to have tires installed that you bought somewhere else, you can still get the same basic installation for an additional $10 per tire. That brings the total to $100 for four tires. And Walmart’s “basic installation” includes more than just installing the new tires.

Basic Tire Installation Package

$15 per tire if purchased at Walmart (additional $10 per tire if purchased elsewhere)

  • Tire mounting
  • Valve stems/TPMS service pack
  • Lifetime balance and rotation every 7,500 miles
  • 50-mile lug re-torque

Value Tire Installation Package

$25 per tire (available only for tires purchased at Walmart)

  • Tire mounting
  • Valve stems/TPMS service pack
  • Lifetime balance and rotation every 7,500 miles
  • 50-mile lug re-torque
  • Road hazard protection warranty

Additional Tire Services:

These services are available only for tires purchased at Walmart.

  • Tire mounting (carry-in): $10 per tire
  • Tire mounting (specialty): $5 per tire
  • Rotation: $2. 50 per tire
  • Lug nut replacement: $2 per lug nut
  • Reset tire pressure monitoring system sensors: free as needed

Remember that if you plan on purchasing your tires online and having them delivered to a Walmart Auto Care Center for installation, you’ll need to call the center separately and schedule a time to bring in your car.

For more information on installation and tire, battery, oil & lube or additional services, visit Walmart’s Auto Care Center online.

Walmart Tires: Return Policy and Warranty Information

According to Walmart’s website, most tires that have never been installed or driven on can be returned to the Customer Service desk of any Walmart store that has a tire center.

Unfortunately, Walmart stores that don’t have tire centers can’t accept returns, and you can’t return the tires by mail. Walmart also won’t accept returns on snow tires or any tires that have been used.

Walmart offers a road hazard warranty for $10 per tire. This price is included in the total for the Value Tire Installation Package, and the warranty is available only for tires purchased in-store or online at Walmart. The warranty covers unforeseen road hazards, flat repairs and free replacement of non-repairable tires within the first 25% of tread wear.

Advertisement

Note that the standard manufacturer’s warranty should be enough to cover your tires. In fact, Consumer Reports argues that tread-life warranties are next to useless and money expert Clark Howard never buys extended warranties.

“My position on extended warranties remains the same always,” says Clark. “I don’t like them, and I don’t buy them at any store.”

If you aren’t completely satisfied with the tires you’ve ordered, you’ll have 90 days from the date of purchase to return them. Of course, if you had the tires shipped directly to your home, you’ll have to make arrangements to get them to an eligible Walmart location.

You can find more information on Walmart’s tire return policy online.

Final Thoughts

Overall, Walmart is a great place to shop for tires both online and in-store. You’ll find a great selection of popular tire brands and some of the lowest average per-tire prices compared to other popular tire stores. And installation is cheaper at Walmart than nearly anywhere else.

If you do decide to purchase your next set of tires from Walmart, follow these tips to maximize your savings

  1. Check out the special offers tab on the left-hand side of the webpage if you’re shopping online. There, you’ll find exclusive savings on tires, gift card bundles, discounts, rebates and clearance prices.
  2. Take advantage of the price match if you see a lower advertised price. It’s important to take the time to compare prices across several stores to make sure you’re getting the best deal. Plus, you can claim the price match at Walmart only if you submit it before you make your purchase.
  3. Let Walmart install your tires. You can get free same-day delivery at some locations as well as free shipping to any Walmart store. Since it offers one of the lowest prices for installation, consider having your tires sent directly to the store for free and call ahead to schedule an appointment.

Of course, you can also shop for tires in-store with the help of a Walmart Auto Care Center associate. Be sure to call your nearest store before visiting to get specific hours and availability.

What You Might Not Know about Goodyear

If you haven’t heard of Goodyear, you probably haven’t heard of “cars,” either, so welcome to 1901. Goodyear Tire and Rubber Company is a tire giant that literally invented the way rubber goes on your wheels. Along with making the tires, they also retail them through a network of Goodyear Tire and Auto Centers and Just Tires, and independently owned shops that are part of the Goodyear Tire and Service Network. Through these outlets, Goodyear provides a whole range of auto repair and maintenance services in addition to new tires from Goodyear, Dunlop, and Kelly. Goodyear also sells tires direct to consumers through their website, and operates a mobile tire installation program called Roll by Goodyear that provides new tire installation services in many major cities. Tires installed through this method offer all the rebate and warranty perks of purchasing tires in stores, but with the added convenience that they come to your home, office, or shopping center so you can have tires installed on your vehicle while you tend to other business. Warranty claims for tires installed using the Roll by Goodyear service are handled in the exact same way as if you purchased the tires in a Goodyear Company-owned store. Information on mobile tire installation can be found at http://www.rollbygoodyear.com/

Why We Like Goodyear Tire

We get all kinds of questions from listeners and site visitors on weird, off-brand, no-name tires. Our advice is to spend a few more bucks on a tire from a company that stands behind their tires. Goodyear has a nationwide footprint, and the warranty on repairs and maintenance performed at company-owned stores and members of the Goodyear Tire and Service network is serviceable all over the United States. If you had a repair in Texas and something goes wrong in Maine, you can be sure there will be a place nearby to get service. Additionally, and perhaps most importantly, if you purchase Goodyear, Dunlop, or Kelly tires online from their website and have them shipped to a Goodyear company store or Tire and Service Network member shop for installation, you will be able to obtain tire warranty service in person. This means tires will be replaced or pro-rated refunds issued without having to mail tires back to an internet retailer. This is a huge advantage. Most Goodyear affiliated shops and stores accept the Goodyear credit card. Purchases made on this card generally have a six month period of deferred interest. Additionally, manufacturers' tire rebates on Goodyear tires are increased when the Goodyear card is used at participating online and brick-and-mortar retailers. As far as quality goes, research will show that Goodyear tires are often listed at the top of ratings in a leading consumer research publication.

How to Maximize Savings on Goodyear Tires

Goodyear has regular sales on many of its tires from Goodyear, Dunlop, and Kelly. An easy way to check to see which tires are on sale is to go to the Goodyear website, click on “Find Tires”, enter your tire size and location information, and then select the “Offers Available” square after the tire search results appear on your screen. Goodyear company-owned stores also provide price matching. Just present a copy of the price from another retailer (shipping included if it is an online retailer) and they will match the price. If you have already purchased the tires and a lower price is found within 14 days of the purchase, they will refund you the difference. If you’ve decided on a set of Goodyear, Dunlop, or Kelly tires for your car or truck, go to the Goodyear website to find tires with rebates, make sure no lower price can be found either locally or online, price match if necessary, then purchase the tires on the Goodyear credit card. By combining these price reduction strategies you can be sure you are getting the absolute best deal on Goodyear, Dunlop, or Kelly tires. Finally, tire rotations are free when you purchase tires from Goodyear company-owned stores or participating members of the Goodyear Tire and Service Network. To keep tread life warranties in place, regular rotations are a must.

Are Goodyear tires actually good?

In the most up-to-date ratings by a leading consumer testing magazine, Goodyear has tires in the top five ratings in the categories of Performance All Season, Ultra High Performance All Season, Ultra High Performance Summer, SUV All Season, and Truck All Terrain. Dunlop is in the top five ratings of Truck Winter. Goodyear is a nice option for consumers who want the best deal on tires at a reasonable price.

Does Goodyear own Kelly Tires?

Goodyear owns Kelly Tires and in the United States, Dunlop Tires.

Are Goodyear tires made in the United States?

Goodyear manufactures tires in the United States, Canada, Mexico, and other manufacturing plants worldwide.

  • Free tire repair or what is an extended manufacturer's warranty

Author: Kirill Savchenko

Tires, like any other product, are under warranty. If, a couple of weeks after the purchase, the cord suddenly bursts, the tread peels off, then such a tire, in the event of an expert detection of a manufacturing defect, should be replaced or the money returned for it. It is obvious. Few people know that a regular puncture or hitting a curb with the subsequent appearance of a hernia on the tire is also covered by the warranty case. True, only if the warranty is extended.

On the one hand, the situation is quite strange. After all, the owner of the car can damage the wheel through his own carelessness. Having chosen the wrong speed on a country road, having swept along the roadside, littered with pieces of iron, and finally, due to insufficient experience, having hooked a curb with a wheel. That is, in this case, all expenses should be on his conscience.

On the other hand, the same damage can be received through no fault of your own. For example, due to the negligence of road services, which did not repair a pothole in the asphalt in time, did not remove the roadbed after an accident, or left a sewer hatch open. But, as you know, it is very difficult to recover anything from these organizations (and only within the framework of legal proceedings), and again, all damage is compensated by the driver.

Then why on earth would tire manufacturers take such risks and be willing to pay for sins they had nothing to do with? Of course, it's about reputation. Not all brands offer an extended warranty, but well-known and, as a rule, expensive ones. Moreover, not for the entire range of tires.

It is easy to guess that such risks are initially included in the retail price of tires and none of these companies will engage in "charity".

And, finally, it is not the manufacturing company that will directly solve the problems of the owner of the car and tires, but the dealer with whom the company has an extended warranty agreement. And this means that, having bought tires in a container at the car market or from hands, you should not count on any free repair or replacement.

But the most important nuance is that if you puncture a wheel on the road and put on a spare tire, you most likely will not go to your tire dealer for a free repair. Firstly, because time is more expensive, and secondly, due to the fact that it is not at all comfortable to ride on a dokatka or spare tire for a long time, and tire fitting can most often be found ten kilometers away.

In general, an extended tire warranty is more of an option than a 100% owner-friendly option. However, each of the tire manufacturers assumes strictly defined obligations, which may differ from brand to brand. So what do they offer?

Bridgestone

When buying 4 tires or more and registering for the extended warranty program within 14 days, the owner is entitled to a free repair or replacement of tires with the following unintentional damage within a year. Puncture, cut, sidewall swelling, tire burst, spikes falling out.

But there are 18 clauses under which you are not entitled to free compensation. For example, clause 11 states that a tire that has been repaired does not participate in the program. The tire you received as a gift, as well as with damage caused by operation without pressure, is not included. The list of models includes several dozen positions, but they are all from the top lines.

Continental

This brand is somewhat simpler. But you must personally come to the dealer for tires. Get a warranty coupon, sales and cash receipts. In this case, during the year there will be free repair and replacement in case of a puncture, cut, swelling of the sidewall.

For winter tires, there is also a compensation for the loss of 10% of the studs within 3,000 km or 2 months of operation. The vehicle must not be used for business purposes and the tires must have a residual tread depth of at least 4mm.

The list of models is also impressive, as in the previous case, but the models, again, are mainly from the premium line.

Dunlop

The extended warranty covers accidental damage to a tire that renders it unusable. Valid for a year even if you purchased one tire. To repair or replace a tire, present the tire and receipt to an authorized retailer.

The only problem is that the company undertakes to replace the tire within 180 days. Free tire fitting is provided only in case of tire repair, and in case of replacement - at the expense of the client.

Standard extended warranty damage list: bulge, tear, cut, puncture. There are eighteen reasons for refusing a guarantee. The peculiarity is that the loss of spikes does not fall under the extended warranty in any case. About 50 tire models fall under the program, including even Falken, which are exotic for Russia.

Gislaved

Subsidiary brand Continental declares right away that only tires with a 17” rim diameter are covered under its extended warranty program.

Next, almost everything is standard, but the buyer for Gislaved is a retailer and he has all relations only with him. Puncture, cut, swelling are recognized as damages, but tires are replaced only if their dimensions exceed 6 mm in diameter. Spike loss is not covered by the program under any circumstances.

The list of documents required to implement the extended warranty is not small, both for the end user and for the buyer, i. e. the retailer. And if, when replacing a tire, it is not possible to find the desired model, an analogue is offered. The Gislaved Extended Warranty is only valid for individuals who purchase tires from authorized retailers.

The program is valid for one year from the date of purchase and each wheel purchased is covered only once. The list of models is small: for the summer range - UrbanSpeed and UltraSpeed, for the winter range - NordFrost 5/100/200, SoftFrost 3/200.

Goodyear

This brand has chosen to refer to the extended warranty as "Premium Warranty". This does not change the essence - the damage falling under it is standard: puncture / cut, swelling and rupture of the sidewall. The advantage is that the program is valid even with the purchase of one tire, and the model range that falls under the extended warranty is really large and is not limited to the top segment. The only exceptions are tires for light commercial vehicles, as well as the Wrangler AT / SA, Wrangler AT / SA +, Wrangler AT / R, Wrangler All-Terrain Adventure with Kevlar, Wrangler Duratrac and Wrangler MT / R with Kevlar models.

Goodyear Premium Warranty is only valid if the warranty certificate and proof of purchase of Goodyear passenger tires are registered on the manufacturer's portal within 30 days of purchase.

The Korean company clearly indicates that its extended warranty applies to tires purchased only at the centers of the official dealer "SHINSERVICE" and some others. Moreover, the company explained that it is official dealers who are developing this program, and Kumho only supports it financially. Types of damage and prerequisites are completely standard: a tread depth of at least 4 mm, but you need to purchase at least four tires.

A prerequisite is the presence of a correctly completed warranty card, which the consumer receives at the time of purchase of tires, as well as the presence of a sales receipt, delivery note or work order indicating the date of purchase, model, size and cost of the tire.

It is interesting that if you need to replace one tire and in the absence of this model, the manufacturer changes two at once. Thus, the rule of mandatory installation of two identical tires on one axle is observed. The list of models Kumho does not regulate.

Maxxis

The Maxxis Extended Individual Warranty is valid for two years from the date of purchase for standard damage, which is good enough. However, the list of models is small: NP3 Arctic Trekker, NP5 Premitra Ice Nord, SP-02 Arctic Trekker, AP2 Allseason, WP-05 Arctic Trekker, NS3 Arctic Trekker, NS5 Premitra Ice Nord, SS-01 Ppresa SUV.

In addition, tire fitting is carried out at the expense of the client participating in the program, and repairs are carried out only by applying a universal patch or “fungus”. As in all other cases, registration in the program and purchase of tires from an authorized dealer is required.

One of the denials in the extended warranty states that the tires are not being inflated. Even if it is caused by mechanical damage. That is, in the event of a puncture or rupture of the tire, the car should immediately stop.

Michelin

The French company has one of the best extended warranties. Firstly, during the year from the date of purchase, the tire can be repaired for free an unlimited number of times and only changed - once.

Secondly, the warranty covers all models for passenger cars, off-road vehicles, and commercial vehicles under the MICHELIN trademark, purchased by both individuals and legal entities.

Minimum extended warranty restrictions. In particular, driving with broken wheel geometry, with the parking brake on and with the wrong pressure. This also includes acts of vandalism.

It is stated that the program works only when buying tires in the network of tire centers "SHINSERVICE" from 02/28/2019 to 03/01/2020 inclusive, but it is already known that it has been automatically extended for another year.

Nokian

The Finnish brand declares a lifetime extended warranty, but only on the Nokian Hakkapeliitta and Nokian Hakka models for cars and SUVs. Nokian Nordman is only valid for a year from the date of purchase.

Repair or replacement is carried out when the tread is worn up to no more than 4 mm of residual height, in case of punctures, tears, cuts and swelling of the sidewalls. The warranty must be activated on the company's website, but tires can be purchased from any authorized dealer, in a car dealership or even in an online store.

By the way, Nokian also introduced an electronic extended warranty system. It implies the absence of a paper warranty card. It is enough to register your purchase once and activate the warranty service from Nokian Tires in order to subsequently use the service to repair or replace a damaged tire.

Pirelli

The Italians called their extended warranty program Tirelife. To become a member, you need to purchase from two tires in the "SHINSERVICE" network and draw up a package of documents. In case of standard operational damage, the tire will be replaced or repaired free of charge. What's more, twice a year, the company guarantees a free tire inspection for hidden damage.

The program covers the entire Pirelli range, with the exception of Formula and truck tires. Valid for one year from the date of purchase.

For a complete understanding of all the conditions for providing extended warranty programs, we recommend that you familiarize yourself with them on the official websites of tire manufacturing companies.

Commentary by the expert of the company "SHINSERVICE"

Alexander Golubev,
expert "SHINSERVICE"

In our opinion, the extended warranty for tires is, first of all, the desire of the manufacturer to demonstrate the quality of its product and show its customer focus. But, perhaps, not every client will be satisfied with the conditions of the proposed program from a particular tire brand. Most often, because the Russian car owner is not used to filling out any extra paperwork, and prefers to repair the tire immediately after damage. Not tied to a specific dealer. However, those who operate their car primarily in the city, where there are many shops offering extended warranty tire repairs and replacements, may enjoy this program. In addition, high quality repairs from an authorized dealer will be guaranteed.

Tire direction during installation, how to determine the direction of rotation of the tire

The article provides information on the correct installation of tires and features of the direction of the tread.

A tire is a multi-layered shell of a complex design that is attached to the wheel rim. The shock-absorbing part is rubber or polymer, with a printed pattern, which, as a rule, indicates the direction of rotation of the wheel. The pattern is applied to the protector. The tread is the working area that creates the grip of the car with the road.

Classification

Tires are classified according to the following criteria:

  • according to the type of tread pattern - directional, non-directional (universal), asymmetric;
  • according to the specifics of grip with the roadway - summer, winter, universal;
  • according to the features of the tread relief - symmetrical, asymmetric;
  • according to the degree of hardness - hard - for driving on a dry road, soft - on a wet one;
  • according to the depth of the relief of the wheel tread - with lugs for driving on swampy soil, the average depth of the tubules of common road surfaces, smooth for sports cars;
  • by functional purpose - cars, trucks;
  • in the direction of attachment of the threads in the cord (allows you to determine the load capacity of the car and the required pressure for pumping) - diagonal (threads cross, greater rigidity, less pressure is needed when pumping), radial - threads parallel to each other - fewer layers of cord, less weight, longer life service, more load capacity;
  • according to the method of sealing - chamber - with a sealed chamber, rim - pumping air into the cavity between the wheel rim and the frame, through the valve.

Understand! Universal in reliability while driving are inferior to specialized ones. The directional ones provide better grip on wet roads at high speeds. If you correctly determine the direction behind the rotation of the wheels, the effect of aquaplaning disappears, which guarantees good rubber grip in puddles.

Design features

Rubber design features are distinctive features that improve the driving characteristics of the vehicle. It is important to understand them for the correct choice of replacement rubber.

Tubeless, long lasting elasticity in the event of a puncture. The rubber tightens around the stuck object. It does not overheat when driving, due to heat dissipation by the open (metal) part of the rim. Unlike the chamber one, there are increased requirements for rims, the need to apply additional sealant at the junction of the rim and rubber, and the complexity of installation. Tubeless are used more often, properly mounted - high wear resistance.

The difference between diagonal and radial tires can only be correctly identified by marking. Radial - r. Diagonal - do not have a letter index. You can understand the marking of the diagonal ones by the presence of the designation TT - operation with a camera. Those who care about speed need to understand the differences.

Tire tread provides traction. You can determine by the tread:

  • seasonal purpose of rubber - for example, it is correct to install tires with metal spikes for the winter in a climate zone with frequent thaws and ice;
  • in which direction the tire should move (if there is no marking on the rubber, you can determine the side with an asymmetric pattern by stiffness - the outer side is stiffer, the correct way when installing rubber).

Asymmetrical tread pattern is larger on the outside. Do not purchase with even the slightest difference in the pattern - the tires rotate with a minimum lag - uneven grip with the roadway. Especially important for the highway, sharp descents.

Learn how to install correctly

Before determining the direction of a tire, it is important to know that Goodyear's tire direction marking for an asymmetric pattern is: LEFT; RIGHT - right; outside - outer side, inside - inner. install tires on the car according to the pattern on the tread or arrow. If symmetrical - navigate along a symmetrical pattern, its direction must coincide with the direction of movement of the wheel. If you need to install in the direction - the correct designation is ROTATION - rotation.

How to find out the direction if there is no marking - herringbone pattern? Rotate the tire in both directions - the top of the "herringbone" should be the first to touch the road. This is the correct way to install a wheel without a direction marking.

Recently, manufacturers have switched to symmetrical wheels, as it is impossible to know which one will fail. Correct replacement scheme:

  • loosen fasteners;
  • jack up;
  • unscrew the fastener to the end;
  • remove tire;
  • put on a new one;
  • gradually fix the wheel; - fasteners do not tighten to the end;
  • lower the jack;
  • tighten the fasteners.

It is also worth understanding that it is impossible to use anti-corrosion agents for processing fasteners on the road - imbalance.
