How to check tire pressure bmw 328i

How do you check the tire pressure on a BMW 328i?

I haven’t driven my BMW for about six months and I want to make sure the tires are still filled properly before I hit the road. How do you check the tire pressure on a BMW 328i?

To check the tire pressure on a BMW 328i, use a tire gauge and check it manually.

The tire pressure in a BMW 328i should be 32 psi.

If you drive a 2016 or later model, then your vehicle has TPMS, which will alert you when air pressure is low in any tires.

You can also check the tire pressure manually with a tire gauge. Remove the valve stem cap on a tire and press the gauge onto the valve stem. Read the number on the gauge. If it’s less than 32, fill up the tire with air at a gas station.

Figure 1 A rubber, flexible valve stem utilizes wheel speed. Figure 2 A solid aluminum stem that has a nut on the base is a TPMS sensor system The tire pressure information is used to notify you of a low tire pressure condition. If a tire loses pressure, a warning lamp is illuminated in the instrument cluster and a warning chime sounds. This is a very helpful system. If you have a tire puncture and are losing air, you will be notified, therefore allowing you to immediately pull over and reduce the damage to the tire. Any time you have a warning message related to tire pressure, immediately pull over and check all four tire pressures. If you had a low tire and repaired the problem, you will have to reset the tire pressure monitoring system. This can be done easily using the turn signal stalk or through your iDrive menu, if equipped. When checking air pressure, always use a plastic valve stem cap. A metal one can seize onto the TPM sensor and damage it. This applies to TPMS sensor equipped vehicles. BMW X5, X1, X3 tire pressure and sensors

The tires of any car must have normal pressure. This affects traffic safety. Such an indicator should be controlled taking into account the dynamic parameters of machine models. BMW is no exception. Not all owners of these models know what tire pressure should be. It is important to understand here that, depending on the modification of the BMW, there is a pressure norm, the excess or underestimation of which can lead to unpleasant consequences.

    BMW Tire Pressure Gauge

If the tires are not properly inflated, this will directly affect the traction of the wheels and the handling of the machine. With an illiterate approach to the pressure indicator and incorrect inflation of tires with air, rapid wheel wear will occur. Or the car will behave unpredictably on the road. It is very dangerous. In addition, keeping the machine in the normal pressure range can significantly reduce operating costs. You do not often have to buy expensive sets of tires and pay for their installation. Every car owner understands that tires with the correct pressure last longer and are better in relation to driving.

    Pressure ratings

For competent control, it is important to ensure that the BMW tire pressure sensor shows the desired numbers. Where to get them?

    Tire Pressure Gauge

There are special tables in which these norms are written. Let's imagine some of them:

    1. The pressure in BMW X1 tires with R16 wheel sizes should be 2.2/31 in the front wheels, and 2.5/35 in the rear. If the size is R17, you should adhere to the following indicators: 2.0 / 29and 2.3/33. Accordingly, front and back.
    2. In BMW X3 modifications with wheel diameters R15 and 16, the sensor should show 1.8/26 and 2.2/31. And in the BMW X3 E90, the indicator corresponds to 2? 2 / 32 and 2.7 / 38.
    3. It is important to keep the pressure in BMW X5 tires with a diameter of r15 at 2.0 / 29 and 2.2 / 31. And with the size R16 - 2.2 / 34 and 2.7 / 39.

This is not all the data on the required pressure rate. For those who do not know what the specific indicators of their model are, it is better to have an instruction manual for the car handy. Each modification has its own numbers. And, the owner must understand this. For example, the pressure in BMW E70 tires with different wheel diameters should be different: r18 - 2.1 / 30 and 2.3 / 33. A r192.1/30 and 2.5/36. The same rate is allowed in the front wheels.

    Standards table

What to do if the error on the pressure sensor lights up

Many BMW owners complain that a pressure error notification often appears on the instrument panel. The red blinking does not disappear even after swapping. Most do not know what to do in such cases.

    Error on the pressure sensor

Why does the BMW tire pressure error occur? Let's look into this issue. There are several ways to solve the problem:

    1. Set the automatic transmission to the “parking” mode, find the button on the console below (in the heating area) and press it. After this manipulation, the notification color will change to yellow. Next, you should switch to the "drive" mode and start moving. Approximately, after a kilometer of the way, this error will disappear.
    2. American BMW X5 models have pressure sensors directly on the discs. And, often, in the process of reinstalling disks, the old sensors remain in their old places. In this case, drivers buy a set of sensors and reinstall them. Or they continue to ride on old tires.
    3. Sensors monitor pressure. And it is regulated by the ABS system. That is, the calculation is based on the value of the wheel rotation frequency. In such cases, if an error occurs on the sensor, it is recommended to go to service and diagnose the system.

How to check the condition of the tires and the pressure in them

All car owners should know that regular tire checks are carried out independently or in the service. But without this, full operation is impossible. Since, if you miss the moment of falling or increasing performance, you can irrevocably ruin the wheels. Competent check allows to avoid many troubles. On the way, a wheel may go down or, even worse, an emergency.

To check the pressure yourself, use a special pressure gauge. The device should always be in the cabin or in the trunk of a car. For a competent check, you need to know a few rules:

    1. If you measure the indicator on the tires immediately after driving, when they are still warm, the pressure figure may be too high. Because thermal expansion occurs inside the tires. If, nevertheless, you measure the parameter in the warm state of the wheels, you should not lower them. Since after they cool down, the pressure will be below normal. It is better to wait for the equipment to cool completely. Only then measure the pressure.
    2. It is recommended to check the indicator at least once a month. Or during an inspection.
    3. To prolong the life of tires, use the pressure gauge once a week.

The pressure test sequence should be as follows:

    1. Unscrew the protection cap from the valve that protrudes from the rim.
    2. Fit pressure gauge and press firmly.
    3. When the readings are taken, compare them with the recommended readings. To do this, look at the table or at the car door. There is a badge with the necessary standards attached.

Another important tip: Always carry a spare tire with you. And it is necessary to maintain the desired pressure indicator in it.

This will allow you not to bother with pumping and measuring if you need to replace the structure.
