The Quail Canyon MX track is closed until further notice due to water well issues.
The Cow Trail is CLOSED until further notice due to the recent fires.
Update (April 1, 2022): The Hungry Fire burn area are closed until further notice for restoration and to repair recreation infrastructure.
Current Park RestrictionsThis park unit is fully open. Please take the time to read the information contained on this webpage to find out what is open and closed, and what COVID-19 guidelines are in place.
Hungry Valley SVRA is the third largest unit of California State Park's Off-Highway Motor Vehicle Recreation Division. Located in the Tejon Pass north of Los Angeles and along the Interstate 5 corridor, Hungry Valley offers 19,000 acres and more than 130 miles of scenic trails for motorcycle, All-Terrain Vehicles (ATV), dune buggies, and 4x4 recreation. All levels of OHV operator skills will be challenged by the wide variety of terrain and trails at Hungry Valley SVRA.
Elevations at Hungry Valley range from 3,000 to nearly 6,000 feet. Occasional snowfalls occur during the winter. Summers are most often hot, dry and dusty. The most pleasant times of the year for OHV fun are during the Spring and Fall months when the temperatures are mild and occasional rain showers make for good traction and reduced dust. Nighttime temperatures often drop below freezing in the Spring and Fall, as well as during the Winter.
The wide variety of trails at Hungry Valley provides excitement for both beginner and experienced off-roaders. For experienced OHVers challenging trails can be found in the hills and sand washes of the back- country section of the SVRA. Beginners can enjoy the scenery and relative ease of the trails in the Native Grasslands Management Area. Trails in the adjoining Los Padres National Forest are recommended for experienced riders only.
Recreational Land Management
Providing long-term, sustained OHV recreation opportunity is a top priority in SVRA Management. Provisions in California law require actions to stabilize soils and to provide for healthy wildlife populations in OHV recreation areas. Projects are ongoing to stabilize soil areas by reshaping slopes, reseeding and replanting bare areas. Vegetation creates wildlife habitat while plant roots help stabilize the soil. Project areas are temporarily closed to OHV use through the use of barriers, such as fences, hay bales, brush piles and signing. Where possible, well-designed OHV trails are provided through project areas. Other project areas may be closed for a number of years before being opened again for OHV use. Your understanding and support in staying out of areas closed for restoration helps ensure OHV recreation opportunities for years to come.
Where to get help
The State Park Rangers who patrol Hungry Valley SVRA are peace officers, who are trained Emergency Medical Responders.
Entrance station employees and park maintenance personnel can also summon medical help. If no State Park personnel are available, dial 911 from any telephone. Pay phones are located at many business locations in Gorman. Cellular telephone coverage is intermittent throughout most of the SVRA. There are no emergency medical facilities in Gorman. The nearest hospital to Hungry Valley SVRA is Henry Mayo Newhall Memorial Hospital, located approximately 30 miles to the south in Valencia. To drive to the hospital, take Interstate Highway 5 south to the McBean Parkway exit and turn left (east) on McBean Parkway. Henry Mayo Hospital is located approximately one mile from I-5 on the left-hand side at 23845 McBean Parkway.
The following District Superintendent Orders have been implemented:
Hungry Valley State Vehicular Recreation Area
Hungry Valley State Vehicular Recreation Area lies in the heart of a complex geologic structure known as the Ridge Basin. The highly deformed rocks within the park bear stark witness to the tremendous forces that characterize the interplay between the San Andreas and San Gabriel Faults, which bound the basin and the park.

Safe and responsible OHV operation starts with proper training. The OHMVR Division has partnered with the Specialty Vehicle Institute of America, Recreational Off-Highway Vehicle Association and the Motorcycle Safety Foundation to provide Free ATV, ROV and dirt bike training. Each of the following SVRAs has at least one approved ATV training range and may have ranges for dirt bikes and/or ROVs as well:

Amazing Day Trip!
I've been on several excursions in Mexico and can honestly say Aventuras Mayas has been the best experience! My partner and I did the ATV Xtreme + Tulum tour which included snorkelling in a cenote, ATVing, zip-lining, lunch, and visiting the Tulum ruins. Our guide Alfredo was phenomenal, and gave us such an interesting tour in Tulum. Great value and great quality service!

Fun experience, expect to get back around 6 PM
Fun experience overall time was 12 hours not seven so that stretched a little long. Only 40 minutes a TV so that was slightly disappointing as that is what I wanted to do most. Overall good experience and value

Efficient Jungle Tour!
My girlfriend and I took the ATV and Zipline Sacred Jungle Expedition tour on 8/4. Below is our outlined experience as well as pros and cons of the excursion. Our guide, Pedro, was phenomenal #sexygroup and he made our excursion incredibly awesome.
We arrived at the pickup location early am and didn't leave for the excursion for an hour. It's the summer and we were sweating already. The van was full (everyone wore masks) and we went down the rockiest road for 15 minutes. If you get motion sickness, goodluck. The van also had poor A/C so we were all dying in the van in our masks.
We originally booked ATV and EITHER ziplining or cenote but it turns out we were getting all three! Ziplining was great with the first three lines being fun and the final one being a crazy 3/4 mile long line. The hard part was climbing the insane circular platform. if you are afraid of heights, skip it, but it was really cool to see the whole jungle. Terrifying climb.
The ATVs were fun. Road was a bit rocky and there were some mechanical issues but ultimately was a great time. Pedro kept us going and it was fun to zoom around.
The cenote was fantastic. After 4 hours sweating in the jungle, the cold water felt nice. It was an underground cenote and was one of our favorite parts of the tour. Once done, we got some flautas and rice. The flautas were a 4/10 but it was nice to have some food afterwards. We took the rocky road back and were dropped off at the location point.
Pros
Great tour guide, Pedro. Super communicative, funny, and we felt very safe with him.
We got to do more than expected. We paid for two things and got all three and lunch!
Doing all three things in an afternoon is a huge win and an efficient use of time
Cons
The tour said 3.5 hours but took 6 total hours! Plan accordingly. You can't leave whenever you want. You have to wait for the entire group to be done.
The rocky road through the jungle isn't suitable for people who get motion sickness
It was a bit unorganized and we didn't know the order of the activities ahead of time
The flautas were pretty poor
Overall, we recommend this excursion and it was a fun time. Just plan for the 6 hours and bring some mosquito repellant. Great jungle adventure in Tulum!

Immersing your yourself in nature-you can maximize your time by seeing many things in a day without the worry
We loved every minute of it. We have never taken a tour before, they were so nice, never felt rushed and immediately felt comfortable. The Cenotes were beautiful each one different and lunch was great! We used the e-bikes to get around they were a lot of fun easy and fast to get around. We were only in Thurs - Sunday and was thinking about going to do a second tour for the ruins the next day and regretted that we didnt :( - we highly recommend these tours you can really tell they care about the environment and turtles .

Wonderful experiences with fantastic tour guides!
This tour was an absolute highlight of our trip! Jony and Joshua were very personable, knowledgeable and took amazing photos for us, leaving us free to take in the experience. The cenotes were beautiful and the guided tour allowed us to explore them in much greater depth than we would have on our own. Riding the ATVs was a fun and adventurous way to see the jungle.

A must do activity with a wonderful guide!
This couldn’t have been better. Julieta was the most lovely guide that put us at ease and imparted a sense of true passion for the region. The scooter ride was so fun and the float in the muyil canal is an absolute must do! The water was unlike any other in clarity and brightness!! The visit to the ruins was also special as you feel like you’re stumbling upon them during a walk in the jungle. Our experience was so nice and we’re so happy we booked for our last day in tulum.

Would NOT recommend
Avoid at all costs! Extremely poorly organized from the beginning. Broken equipment. Got a broken helmet, noticed many broken life bests, and the atvs (MANY of them) broke down so we couldn’t go more than a minute or 2 before the guide would stop. This is not an exaggeration! We spent most of the time sitting in our own exhaust. Skipped zip lining because we straight up did not trust this company to keep us safe after the ATV experience. They should not all need to carry wrenches and bring extra people to fix equipment along the way. The only reason I gave 2 stars is for our guide to Cobá. He was very sweet, helpful, and informative. However, I would say stay away from this company at all costs.

Super snorkel/paddleboard cenote tour!
Our whole group had a fabulous time. Our guides were the perfect combination of professional and fun- everything went smoothly with time, equipment, etc., but the best part was that it felt like hanging out having an adventure with friends. The tacos were also excellent!

10/10. Will go back every time
We had such a great time that we booked 5 more trips. We did multiple dives trips to cenotes that they recommended for us and were spot on in what we were interested in. We also booked a whale shark excursion that was so great we ended up booking a second trip again with another group of friends. They guys from the shop helped arrange everything for us, even on short notice. Buy the end of our trips we considered them more of our friends than a guide. Manual is also very involved in the conservation of the cenotes and the future of Tulum. I'm glad I was able to see Tulum through his eyes.

YOU JUST GOTTA DO IT!
Worth your wild! Seeing Mayan HISTORY at Tulum that is still standing after 1300 years. Supposedly a major trading post with the Spanish conquest. I’m pretty sure that the WIND GOD staircase is stained with blood from the sacrificed!
Swimming (life vest included) in the cold underground freshwater cave with just a flashlight was incredible. Just think how those sacrificed ingenious Mayan people felt left down in a cold dark death trap. The lagoon snorkeling, with all of NEMO’s family and friends, was also an fantastic experience! The event staff were friendly, energetic, very informative of what to expect and safety conscious! The last meal of fajita’s at the Ocean Club finished off a long, perfect day. One last thing, prepare to be packed into a minivan, have a ride of your life down a Mexican highway avoiding a multiple vehicle collision and be pounded into summation down 2 narrow, winding, extremely bumpy white rock roads! BUT I WOULD DO IT AGAIN, IT WAS THAT FUN!

As the name of the game suggests, we will be offered to ride not only two-wheeled horses, but also four-wheeled ATVs. In fact, the fleet of vehicles here is even larger and we will eventually have UTVs, sport buggies and small pickup trucks at our disposal.
However, acquaintance with the game will begin with motocross. And further, as we progress through various championships, we will have access to new vehicles, and the tournaments themselves, where they are allowed. Staying true to its roots, the game offers us cross-country racing or supercross on difficult artificial tracks in the lights of large stadiums to the sound of a roaring crowd.
Among the banal races of several laps on the same track, there are knockout races, passing checkpoints and a free ride mode. Checkpoints are not very out of the general range, because there is always a rolled road, and the difficult terrain does not make it possible to cut off the path much. Free ride includes several locations where we look for secret flags and go through several competitions - drive up a steep mountain in the allotted time without falling down, or fly through all the markers in the air, jumping on jump hills.
There are some tricks, but they play a secondary role, not a key one, as in Pure. Separate competitive stages just offer us to do somersaults on stadium tracks with springboards.
The main interest is mixed competitions. The game only at first limits us in transport, and then nothing prevents cars, ATVs and two-wheeled bikes from clashing in one race at the same time. Moreover, it turns out to be quite interesting and exciting, because the tracks are built in such a way that certain sections create problems for different vehicles. The motorcycle easily overcomes the steepest sections, but gets stuck in the water, and on a sharp turn, some pickup truck will simply crush it into a cake, throwing it back a few positions.
Sport Truck sometimes resembles a tank, scattering everyone on the way. From the start, you can simply crush all the nimble enemies, go half a circle perfectly, jumping on potholes, and then roll over in a ditch with logs or on a very sharp turn. Yes, and among the thicket you can’t maneuver much. But a light motorcycle can sometimes cut where it is difficult to fit into a larger opponent.
The only trouble is that in fact the whole choice is limited between nimble motorcycles and powerful cars. Quads are maneuverable, but too sensitive. This is not a perky cheerful Pure. Here the drive on both pairs of wheels is perfectly felt and you can easily fall down on a sharp rise, not keeping your balance and lifting the front end. Lightweight buggies and UTVs can't match the speed of cars, but jump on the track much easier, making it much more difficult to control. As a result, all this is fun and great at first, then you just choose a motorcycle or car and calmly go through the track.
Some incentive for the player to use intermediate class vehicles more often would be welcome. But there are catastrophically few competitions in the game that specifically limit us in choosing among them.
Riding motorcycles requires constant balance control and the need to compensate for imbalances in the balance of the motorcycle by tilting the rider's body. But the most difficult thing is to control a light ATV, which is too responsive, light, jumpy and unstable on inclined surfaces. Here everything depends on fast and, most importantly, precise movements of the body, because if you overdo it with the driver's inclination, you can easily fall on your side or land on your neck. By the way, if after landing you did not keep your balance, you will still have the opportunity to normalize the position of the bike by pressing one of the illuminated body tilt keys in time. Such a quick-time event.
In competitions where there are no restrictions on vehicles, the developers successfully combine different terrain elements and different types of dirt to make the races more unpredictable. From snow to mud, from mud to hard to bumpy and wavy surfaces, and a few sharp turns in a grove of trees - somewhere forward riders break out on motorcycles, and somewhere on buggies and pickups. It is these races that give maximum adrenaline and pleasure.
Motocross and Supercross are not as dynamic. In stadium races, difficult tracks force you to be attentive and correctly control your balance. Here the key to success is not in speed, but in the correct passage of all tricky turns and maintaining balance after all the jumps. However, it is still interesting and exciting, but racing on sports trucks alone is really boring and boring. The tracks in such competitions are unpretentious and, thanks to obedient control, are passed very easily.
Fixed low camera that limits the view a little on steep slopes.
Money earned for prize-winning places, together with a bonus for tricks, is spent only on buying new things for your garage. The necessary amounts are accumulating quite quickly and there is still nothing to spend until new classes are opened as the championships progress.
The surface of the track has a direct and immediate effect on any vehicle. Dirt roads are combined with gravel and sand embankments, sometimes even covered with snow. Each vehicle behaves differently on different surfaces. Having easily overcome some section on a motorcycle, you can lose ground a little, getting bogged down in a stream or on a snow-covered turn. And there is a lot of dirt in the game, and it has a direct impact on the physics of vehicles. Only in MX vs. ATV: Reflex wheels leave real ruts in viscous soil, which also create certain difficulties. The most difficult thing is to overcome the road eroded by ditches on a quad bike, it is difficult for a motorcycle to taxi out of such a place, unless it is a downhill. For cars, this is not a problem at all.
All the technological delights of the game end in mud and changing road surfaces. The same dirt does not stain vehicles at all and does not splash fountains from under the wheels, as in other games. The environment looks simple, the textures are rather weak, the stubby trees look very poor, the water is also not so hot. There are no advanced lighting effects, the blinding sun will not interfere with the player. And there is no widespread blurring of the image at high speeds either.
MX vs. ATV: Reflex is a unique game. Here in one bottle and motorcycle racing, and mixed competitions. Only here motorcycles, sports buggies and cars can come together. Off-road, dirt and collisions with motorcycles flying to the sides and cars overturning on sharp turns are provided. The traditional motocross and the players' favorite tricks on the jumps are not forgotten. Quite spectacular and varied, but sometimes boring. Often dynamic races are replaced by mournful trips along familiar tracks. The most difficult races with intricate tracks, constantly changing landscape and soil provide maximum pleasure. Car racing is not exciting, and supercross in stadiums also becomes boring in the end. More than once mentioned Pure is more dynamic and brighter. But Reflex is more serious, it has more realism (there are even licensed championships).
