Chevy Silverado: How to Reset the TPMS Warning Light

If the Tire Pressure Management System in the Chevy Silverado is not working properly, you may have to reset the TPMS system. Follow these steps to re-initialize it.
The light indicator is a notification to warn you of significantly low air pressure or high-pressure loss in your tires and is NOT to be ignored, as low pressure affects the vehicles overall performance such as:
How the vehicle drives.
Increases the need for fuel.
Tire failure.
First, Check the Recommended Air Levels Needed:
Refer to the Manufacturer’s Sticker located on the inside of the Driver’s door.
Keep in mind, after tires are inflated, the outdoor temperature affects how fast the air in the tires will adjust to the proper temperature, this could take minutes, a day, 2 or 3, simply be patient and give the tires time to adjust. In addition, if the tire pressure warning light stays illuminated past a week, you will need to have your vehicle serviced as there could possibly be a sensor issue or a tire puncture.
NOTE: If you are unable to Reset the Tire Pressure Warning Light in the Chevy Silverado on the first try, REPEAT the steps. If you are still unsuccessful, contact the dealership for assistance or consult your vehicle user’s manual.

Set your Brake (Optional but Safe).
Turn the key to the ON position without starting the engine and leave it on through the entire process.
Press the 2nd button located to the LEFT of the instrument cluster next to the vent. Until you see “Press the ✔ To Relearn The Tire System”.
Press the 3rd ✔ button located in the same area.
The horn will beep 3 times to indicate the system is in the learning mode.
Using the device of your choice,
RELEASE some air out of the DRIVER’s side tire FIRST until the horn BEEPS. Be patient as this could take up to 30 seconds for each tire.
Do the exact same for ALL the tires in this order- Driver, Front Passenger, Right Rear, then Left Rear.
After the Left Rear tire air has been released you will hear 2 beeps, this indicates the re-programming is successful.
Fill each tire to the recommended PSI air pressure levels.
Switch the key from ON to OFF then back ON. The warning light should be gone.
Option 2
Set your Brake (Optional but Safe).
Turn the key to the ON position without starting the engine.
Using the On/Off light switch. Really FAST turn the knob to the 2nd and 3rd icons 4 times stopping on the 2nd icon. The horn will BEEP.
Using the device of your choice, RELEASE some air out of the DRIVER’s side tire
FIRST until the horn BEEPS. Be patient as this could take up to 30 seconds for each tire.
Do the exact same for ALL the tires in this order:
Driver
Front Passenger
Right Rear
Left Rear
After the Left Rear tire air has been released you will hear 2 beeps, along with the door open chime to indicate that the re-programming is successful.
Add air to ALL tires to reach the recommended PSI air pressure levels.
Switch the key from OFF to ON. The warning light should be gone.
Option 3
Once your tires have been inflated to the recommended PSI air pressure levels, drive 50mph for at minimum, 10mins.
Afterward, turn off the vehicle and switch the key to the ON position without starting the engine.
Press and HOLD in the TPMS RESET button (located under the steering wheel) until the TIRE PRESSURE
light flashes 3 times then release.
Start the vehicle but give it about 20 mins or so to completely reprogram the system.
Inflate ALL 4 tires 3 PSI over the recommended PSI level.
DEFLATE all tires to include the spare if you have 1 as it may also have a sensor.
RE-INFLATE all tires to the proper air levels.
Switch the ignition OFF, then disconnect the POSITIVE battery terminal.
Remove all power from the vehicle by turning the key ON and pressing the HORN until it stops beeping.
Reconnect the battery cable. The warning light should be OFF.

If you replacing a spare tire with a road tire containing the TPMS sensor on your Chevy Silverado 1500, the system will detect a malfunction and the low tire pressure warning light will blink. When that happens, the TPMS sensor reset process must be done. Depending on the vehicle model you have, here are a few ways to reset the TPMS.
2007-2010 Models
Time needed: 7 minutes.
If you have 2007 2008 2009 2010 Chevrolet Silverado, you can reset the TPMS by increasing or decreasing the tire pressure without using tools. Follow these instructions to get started:
Turn the ignition key to the “ON” position without starting the engine
If your vehicle has an ignition button, press the Engine Start/Stop button without touching the brake pedal
Press the Remote Keyless Entry (RKE) transmitter’s LOCK and UNLOCK buttons simultaneously for five seconds
The horn will sound twice and the TIRE LEARNING ACTIVE message will appear indicating the TPMS matching process has started
Activate the TPMS sensor
Start from the driver side front tire, remove the valve cap, and then increasing or decreasing the tire’s air pressure until a horn chirp sounds
Repeat the process for the passenger side front tire, passenger side rear tire, and the driver side rear tire
A horn chirp will confirm that the sensor has been reset
Turn off the ignition after you reset the last tire
The TIRE LEARNING ACTIVE message will disappear
Adjust the tire pressure in all four tires recommended on the tire placard

2011-2013 Models
Unlike the previous model year, you’ll need TPMS Relearn Tool to reset the Tire Pressure Monitoring System in this 2011 2012 2013 model years. Depending on your vehicle trim level, there are 2 ways to do this. Follow these steps to do it:
With RKE
Turn the ignition key to the “ON” position without starting the engine
Press the Remote Keyless Entry (RKE) transmitter’s LOCK and UNLOCK buttons simultaneously until the horn sounds twice
Start from the driver side front tire, place the TPMS Relearn Tool against the tire sidewall, near the valve stem. Then press the button to activate the TPMS sensor
Repeat the process for the passenger side front tire, passenger side rear tire, and the driver side rear tire
Turn off the ignition after you reset the last tire
Adjust the tire pressure in all four tires recommended on the tire placard
With Driver Info Button
Turn the ignition key to the “ON” position without starting the engine
Press the VEHICLE INFORMATION button briefly until you see the “PRESS ✓ TO RELEARN TIRE POSITIONS” message on the display
Press and hold the ✓ button until the horn sounds twice
Start from the driver side front tire, place the TPMS Relearn Tool against the tire sidewall, near the valve stem. Then press the button to activate the TPMS sensor
Repeat the process for the passenger side front tire, passenger side rear tire, and the driver side rear tire
Turn off the ignition after you reset the last tire
Adjust the tire pressure in all four tires recommended on the tire placard
2014-2018 Models
Just like the previous model, you’ll need TPMS Relearn Tool to reset the Tire Pressure Monitoring System in this Chevrolet Silverado 2014 2015 2016 2017 2018 model year. Depending on your vehicle trim level, there are 2 ways to do this. Here’s how to do it:
With Trip Button
Turn the ignition key to the “ON” position without starting the engine
Turn the TRIP knob until you see the TIRE PRESSURE on the display

Turn the ignition key to the “ON” position without starting the engine
Press the ◄ navigation button to access the cluster applications
Select INFO
Scroll down to the TIRE PRESSURE menu
Press and hold the ✓ button until the horn sounds twice
Start from the driver side front tire, place the TPMS Relearn Tool against the tire sidewall, near the valve stem. Then press the button to activate the TPMS sensor
Repeat the process for the passenger side front tire, passenger side rear tire, and the driver side rear tire
Turn off the ignition after you reset the last tire
Adjust the tire pressure in all four tires recommended on the tire placard
2019-2021 Models
This is the newest model at this time. Just like its predecessor, you need the TPMS Relearn Tool to reset the tire pressure sensor. Here’s how to do it:
Base Level Display
Turn the ignition key to the “ON” position without starting the engine
Turn the TRIP knob on the instrument cluster until you see the TIRE PRESSURE on the display
Press and hold the TRIP knob until the horn sounds twice
Start from the driver side front tire, place the TPMS Relearn Tool against the tire sidewall, near the valve stem. Then press the button to activate the TPMS sensor
Repeat the process for the passenger side front tire, passenger side rear tire, and the driver side rear tire
Turn off the ignition after you reset the last tire
Adjust the tire pressure in all four tires recommended on the tire placard
Mid level & Uplevel Display
Press and holds the ENGINE START/STOP button for 5 seconds without touching the brake pedal
Go to the INFO menu tab by using the ◄ navigation button
Scroll down to the TIRE PRESSURE menu
Press and hold the thumbwheel button to enter the relearn mode
Start from the driver side front tire, place the TPMS Relearn Tool against the tire sidewall, near the valve stem. Then press the button to activate the TPMS sensor
Repeat the process for the passenger side front tire, passenger side rear tire, and the driver side rear tire
Turn off the ignition after you reset the last tire
Adjust the tire pressure in all four tires recommended on the tire placard

Let the tires cool for about three hours if you have recently driven a truck more than this mile. This allows the pressure inside the tire to return to its normal value - heating increases the pressure inside the tire.

Open the driver's side door and look for the vehicle information plate - a sticker with information about your Silverado. Relearn encoder position
Step 1
Turn the ignition to the "On" position, but do not start the Silverado. Remove the valve stem caps from all four valve stems and place them in a safe location.
Step 2
Start the tire pressure monitoring learning mode by simultaneously pressing and holding the "Lock" and "Unlock" buttons on the keyless remote control until you hear a double beep and see the left turn signal flash. Also, if your Silverado does not have keyless entry, press and release the "Info" button in the Driver Information Center until "Tire Learn" appears on the DIC display. Press and hold the Set/Reset button. Listen for a double beep to indicate the entry into TPM learning mode.
Step 3
Press the button on the top of the valve stem on the left (driver's side) front tire with a small flat head screwdriver to begin bleeding the tire. Release the air for 8-10 seconds and remove the flathead screwdriver to stop the airflow. Listen for the beep - this can happen up to 30 seconds after you stop letting air out of the tire. A chirp indicates that the TPMS computer has learned the position of this sensor.
