If you’re new to the Polaris Ranger, something you may want to familiarize yourself with is its hours. Regular checking ensures that proper maintenance is done when needed.
How do you check hours on the Polaris Ranger? The instrument cluster on your vehicle will tell you how many hours your Polaris Ranger engine has. The instrument cluster on most of the popular Ranger models will include a speedometer, mode button, indicator lamps, and a rider information center.
The engine hour meter is found by toggling through the display via the mode button. The rider information center’s information display area is where the engine hour meter is located. You can also find the programmable service hour interval, trip meter, and odometer there.
The instrument cluster looks a bit different on the XP 1000, XP Turbo S, and Turbo models. They also have two extra features: toggle buttons and a tachometer. However, the rider information center is still where the engine hour meter is located. By pressing the toggle buttons, you can scroll through the modes.
The hour meter on the Ranger EV is found below the battery discharge indicator and above the indicator lights on the vehicle console. Sometimes, it can also be found in the instrument cluster’s Display Area 2. In such situations, the up and down buttons located at the bottom is what you should use to scroll through the information on the display until you find the engine hour meter.
Most people usually believe that Polaris parts are costly. They’re not wrong; after all, most of them don’t come cheap. However, that doesn’t mean high mileage machines are always all that bad.
But what exactly are high miles on a Polaris Ranger?
A lot of people will agree that a Polaris Ranger that has 10,000 miles on it is generally one considered to have high miles. Why? It’s simply because, at 10,000 miles, many of them will need a new motor alongside other new parts. It means that it has been running for quite a while.
A sled, on the other hand, is considered high miles when it hits 4,000-5,000 miles. However, they can go up to 7,000 miles before needing a new motor.
Anyway, there’s no exact number, but a good average you can work with is around 7,000 miles. A Polaris Ranger that has this amount of miles on it can and should be considered a high miles vehicle.
A new vehicle’s break-in period is its first 20 hours of operation: that, or the time it took to use up the first two tanks of gasoline. A proper break-in period is undoubtedly one of the most important things you can do on your part at the start. Treating your new engine carefully at the beginning will result in a longer lifespan and more efficient performance of your car’s motor.
Drive components and close-fitted engine parts will be damaged if the heat buildup is excessive during the first three hours of operation. Therefore, you don’t want to operate your vehicle at high speeds or full throttle during this period. Also, you can cause serious engine damage if you use the wrong oils. Ideally, you want to use Polaris Premium 4 Oil as it’s specifically designed to cater to these 4-cycle engines.
Below are some useful tips to consider:
A proper drive belt and clutches break-in will ensure better performance and a longer lifespan for your vehicle. You can break in the belt and clutches by driving at slow speeds during break-in periods. Pull only light loads as well. Avoid high-speed operation and aggressive acceleration as much as you can during this period.
If your belt fails, you should first clean all the debris and dirt from the PVT outlet and intake ducts as well as the engine and clutch compartments before putting in the new one in.
For the first 50 miles, you should drive at slower speeds when operating the vehicle. Again, only carry light loads. Avoid prolonged operation at specific RPMs, aggressive acceleration, and high-speed operation during this break-in period.
For the first five miles or eight kilometers, drive at slower speeds once again. Also, avoid aggressive acceleration, prolonged high throttle, low-speed operation, and high-speed operations during this period as well.
For the first 50 stops, only apply a moderate braking force. Overly forceful or aggressive braking on a new brake system could damage the car’s rotors and brake pads.
A UTV is a little different from its ATV cousin. It is worth taking a closer look at some of these differences.
For starters, the most significant difference between UTV and ATV setups come in the seating and steering designs. UTVs are operated using steering wheels, while ATVs have motorcycle-like handlebars. You ride an ATV like you would a motorcycle while an ATV drives like you would a full-size truck.
You even wear a seatbelt in the latter. Your typical UTV machine will also have a roll cage or roll bar for increased safety. Sometimes, it can even go further and have both doors and a windshield.
Another thing is that an ATV is typically much smaller than its UTV counterpart. A UTV often has the capability of carrying a lot more cargo and passengers. Polaris UTVs come in six-seater, four-seater, and two-seater models. If you’re one who likes riding solo, there’s also a single-seater option.
The last difference lies in the comfort and physicality of operating a UTV versus an ATV. An ATV’s handling and straddle seating means a ride that’s a little more physically demanding compared to the UTV’s car-like driving system. The UTV’s cab seating offers a drive seating that’s way more comfortable, especially if you’re traveling many hours and across many miles. It’s also relatively easier to both enter and exit.
RANGER vehicles are currently the best-selling UTVs on the planet. They are designed to effectively tackle backwood trails, muddy pastures, and the like. A full-size Ranger, such as the 570 for instance, is unmatched both in the value it brings and its performance. This is seen through its class-leading, engine generating 44HP 570cc ProStar engine, True On-Demand AWD system, and Electronic Fuel Injection.
Anyway, we have a couple recommendations for some of the top products for the Polaris Ranger. They’re as follows:
The popularity of these super fun, robust, and versatile vehicles known all around the globe as UTVs has skyrocketed in the last ten years or so. Nowadays, they have become a very common sight. You can spot them anywhere from family playgrounds and farm fields to dune playgrounds and backcountry tracks.
If you’re considering to own a UTV, or if you have your own Polaris Ranger already, hopefully, this article has helped you know how to check the hours on your vehicle.

Polaris has introduced updates that will affect 2023 ATVs. Riders can expect an improved Ride Command system, new accessories and line updates. Let's talk about updates in more detail.
Ride Command is Polaris' navigation app. In group trips, it helps the participants to connect with each other.
In the updated Ride Command+, you can install the SIM card and connect to the Internet through it. So the owner will be able to see data about his ATV through the application on the smartphone or the website. For example, you can track the charge of fuel or battery, or errors. More importantly, you can track the location of the ATV. This is useful for those who leave the ATV in the garage for the winter or on a trip to the place of fishing or hunting.
Later Polaris promises to add other useful features. Here is what should be implemented in the near future:
The new Ride Command+ system will be available free of charge for 3 years on ATVs where it is installed. And 1 year if it was purchased separately. Subscription will cost 9$9 per year.
New accessories added to the 2023 range:
Prospector Pro 2.0 All Season Tracks . Due to the flexible sides and a slight inward bend, it is easy to turn on such tracks. They can be installed on any Polaris ATV.
Pro Armor Lighting Panels . The entire range of lighting panels has been updated, they have become more powerful. The design of square, one- and two-row models has changed. Some panels have orange lenses to better illuminate the road when visibility is poor: in fog, snow, rain, or through dust.
Steering wheels (only for Polaris RZR).
Two models of Pro Armor tires (Polaris RZR only).
Organizers and storage accessories from Kolpin (Polaris Ranger only).
RZR . The RZR Turbo R version received two new colorways. And in the RZR Pro XP Premium package, a new speaker control panel was installed, made in the "marine" waterproof design IP68.
Sportsman . Models 450, 570 and 850 received a new color scheme. In addition, the Sportsman 450 and 570 have larger bars with luggage racks.
General . Two new models have been added to the lineup: General XP 1000 Sport for two and four passengers. Among the modifications of General XP, these are the most affordable. They differ from the “older” versions, Ultimate and Premium, in a simpler interior trim and equipment: it will not have an audio system and the Ride Command system.
Ranger . All Premium versions received new LED headlights. The SP 570 Premium, XP 1000 Premium, and XP 1000 NorthStar trims added a USB port to the dash. The XP 1000 NorthStar Boss received a Ride Command, a new LED underbody light, an overhead switch panel for auxiliary gauges, and added a 12V jack in the cargo area.
Youth . The Outlaw 70 EFI, an ATV model for children ages 6 and up, has been given a new color scheme. And on the 150 EFI UTV models, new seat belts and replacement foot mats were installed.
The major update for 2023 Polaris ATVs is the Ride Command+ app with mobile internet and new features. In addition to the application, some models received changes in equipment and trim. And there are new accessories: tracks, tires, lighting panels, steering wheels and storage organizers.
Launched in 2008, the Polaris RZR line has set new standards in the extreme UTV ATV segment. The company continues to raise the bar every year by releasing new models.
The 2020 range is no exception. This year, fans of fast off-road driving were introduced to the new RZR Pro XP. The model has three modifications:
There is also a separate line of RZR Pro XP 4, which includes four-seater ATVs. But we will consider only double models.
The Polaris RZR Pro XP are two-seat, open-frame quad bikes. In the basic configuration, there are half-doors, high enough - they cover the driver and passenger approximately chest-high. There is no roof and windshield as standard, but they can be purchased and installed in addition. The result is a completely comfortable off-road transport: the crew is protected from rain, sun and dirt.
Looking at the RZR from the side, you immediately realize that this is a powerful sports all-terrain vehicle. This impression is created by the “tilted” line of the body: the front fenders are lower than the high rear fenders - the ends of the rear doors are approximately at the level of the riders' heads. And the thick frame makes it clear that the ATV is also reliable. The cage is assembled on bolts from a 5-centimeter pipe - the frame is also made from the same pipe, only it is not connected with bolts, but welded.
The huge clearance is also striking - as much as 36.8 cm. Most ATVs, even those that are positioned for extreme driving and the most difficult routes, usually have a clearance of no more than 30 cm, and more often it is 26-28 cm.
Rear of the body quite voluminous - due to the luggage compartment 66x46x29.2 cm, which will fit about 136 kg of cargo. From the optics, the RZR XP has LED low and high beams and brake lights.
Polaris RZR Pro XP is not the smallest buggy in size: its dimensions are 320x163x182 cm. So even a tall and broad-shouldered driver and passenger will not be crowded.
Inside, all the filling is located, as in a car: a round steering wheel, a gear knob on the right in the center, two pedals at the bottom and a dashboard. There is also a wide handrail in front of the passenger seat to keep on off-road. The doors also open like a car: the hinges are in front. Both the passenger and the driver have footwells. And there are even 2 places for water bottles - next to the gear knob - and small glove boxes in front for small things like a phone.
The steering wheel has a set of buttons on either side of the center. The rest of the buttons are located on the dash. Moreover, some of them are not connected to anything - you can add additional connected devices to them.
The steering column is adjustable for reach and tilt, the seat is adjustable for tilt and length. The seats themselves are ergonomic, shortened, with seat belts and head restraints.
There is a double dial in front of the driver and one LCD is in the center. Everything you need on the trip is displayed here - from time and speed to engine speed.
If you are going to drive in the evening or at night, or just in a dull semi-dark forest, you do not need to highlight yourself with a flashlight: the cab has blue LED lighting and dashboard lighting.
To propel nearly 800kg fast, the RZR has an engine to match, one of the most powerful in its price range. This is a 2-cylinder 4-stroke engine with a volume of 925 cm³, with electronic fuel injection and turbocharging. Such a motor produces 181 hp, so on the first trips you will have to press the gas very gently - the engine responds very sensitively to the pedal, and picks up speed at the moment.
To feed the powerful engine, a 49 l fuel tank is installed. For comparison: in many models, even with a liter engine, gas tanks do not always exceed 30 liters. Full refueling is enough to drive in mixed mode for several hours or about 200-300 km.
The engine cooling system is liquid, including the turbine. To prevent the refrigerant pressure from exceeding the norm, there is a pre-valve on the manifold that will dump the excess if it appears.
The engine and other components are reliably protected: from below - by a steel plate, from above - by a hood with quick-release bolts.
Front on the Polaris RZR Pro XP is a twin A-arm with 50.8 cm of travel, anti-roll bar At the rear is a trailing arm, also stabilized, with 55.9 cm of travel. Base and Premium versions have Walker Evans adjustable dampers.
The Ultimate version goes a step further with Dynamix 2.0 electronically adjustable smart suspension. Dynamix was first used in 2018, also on the RZR XP (Turbo EPS) model. It analyzes data from 7 sensors at a speed of 200 operations per second. Based on them, the computer calculates the settings for each of the shock absorbers and automatically turns them on. In addition, you can choose the style of riding - "Comfort", "Sport", "Confident" - and Dynamix will be based on it too. Plus there is a button that turns on the maximum hardness mode.
The tires on the RZR are Maxxis Carnivore, designed to take on the toughest off-road terrain. The wheels are 30" and the rear is 1" wider than the front. The wheels are cast aluminum as standard.
The transmission of the 2020 Polaris RZR Pro XP is a fully equipped CVT for extreme riding. There are five gears: low, high, neutral, parking and reverse. You can also connect four-wheel drive (2WD / AWD modes) and a rear differential (VersaTrac mode), which will help out on sand or loose ground.
Compared to previous generations of Polaris RZR, the drivetrain has been seriously improved, making it more durable. To do this, the manufacturer added ventilation holes, put new bearings and roller washers in the clutch.
Now the RZR Pro XP is one of the best buggies in all criteria: it is fast, and passable, and comfortable, and safe, and at the same time sane for the price. It can be bought both for sports competitions and for tourist trips or utilitarian tasks.
