Radiator air vent automatic - invisible worker of the heating system

  • Air vent - an inconspicuous worker of the heating system

Any engineering system consists of a large number of parts, components, equipment. Each element, whether it is a boiler or a conventional air vent, performs its own function, which ultimately affects the overall reliability and durability of the system. About such a simple device at first glance, as an air vent, and will be discussed. nine0012

Air and other gases may be present in the heating medium flow for various reasons. They get into the pipelines during the initial filling of the system, as a result of air leakage during the operation of an improperly designed system, when the system is replenished, when it is partially drained, etc.

With an increase in water temperature, with a slowdown in the flow rate of the liquid, as well as with a decrease in pressure, the solubility of air in water decreases, which leads to its increased release. The air released from the stream rushes to the upper points of the system section. That is why air locks are formed in collectors, heaters and U-shaped sections. nine0012

Why is the presence of air dangerous? The presence of air in the heating system leads to corrosion of the metal elements of heating devices, fittings and equipment, causes noise and air pockets that prevent the proper functioning of the systems. Corrosion is also the most dangerous process, because. part of the elements from it is destroyed, and the elements resistant to corrosion cease to function normally. Harm is not only corrosion itself, but also its products, which spread throughout the system. nine0012

Fig. 1. Corrosion of steel pipes

Who will be left indifferent by pieces of dismantled pipelines ( fig. 1 ) or heating devices? As a rule, this makes an indelible impression on the townsfolk, in whose eyes the question freezes: “How did something work at all ?!”.

Airing of boilers and boilers can lead to rupture of their casing. The presence of air in heating devices reduces their actual heat transfer. Despite the high temperature in the supply pipelines, air-filled radiators and convectors remain cold. Almost all of us have faced this situation. In addition to air, other gases may also be present in the coolant: for example, hydrogen, which can be released in systems with aluminum radiators with an increased alkalinity of the coolant. Air locks are also dangerous for circulation pumps. In order to avoid problems with airing, air vents are used. nine0012

According to the principle of operation, air vents are divided into two types: manual ( fig. 2 ) and automatic ( fig. 3 ). A manual air vent, often referred to as a "Mayevsky tap", is mainly used to remove gases from the upper points of heating appliances or heated towel rails. Among plumbers, there is also a common name for air exhaust devices that is not known to everyone - “plunger” (from French ventouse, windy). However, when the stress is placed on the first syllable - “plunger”, we get a completely different device. nine0012

Fig. 2. Mayevsky crane ( R .400)

3. Automatic air vent VALTEC VT .502

Fig. 4. Radiator automatic air vent V ALTEC VT. 501

When installing the heating system, the air vent is installed at the top of the system. Often it is necessary to place it under the ceiling. In standard designs, the spool outlet is located on top of the device ( fig. 5 ), which sometimes makes installation and maintenance difficult in confined spaces. However, this does not apply to the VT.502 air vent ( fig. 3 ). VALTEC pays special attention to adapting

When filling the system, the air must be vented through ball or drain valves. The use of automatic air vents for such purposes is unacceptable, because. the throughput of these products is not designed for the passage of high air flow rates. Opening the air vent when filling the system can disable it. equipment to Russian operating conditions, actively participates in a dialogue with professional plumbers. Therefore, the spool of the VT.502 air vent is located on the side of the body ( fig. 3, 6 ), which makes it possible to install and operate the air vent under the ceiling.

Automatic air vent VT.502 can be used in systems transporting liquid media that are not aggressive to the materials of the product. For heating systems, this is most often water, less often - solutions of propylene glycol and ethylene glycol. It should be noted that only the vertical mounting position of automatic air vents is permissible (with the exception of the horizontally located radiator air vent with fig. 4 ).

Conventional automatic air vents have the following design ( fig. 5 ): brass body 10 , inside which a hollow plastic float 9 moves freely. The float is pivotally connected to the rocker arm 15 . At the end of the rocker there is an elastomer spool 3 , which is fixed by a holder 1 , a spring-loaded spring 2 . In the absence of air in the air vent housing, the float is in its uppermost position, and the spool blocks the air fitting hole 5 .

Fig. 5. Design of lever air vent

Unlike standard automatic air vents, VALTEC VT.502 has a more advanced design, due to which the number of parts is reduced and there are no articulations of parts. This solution provides high reliability and extends the life of the device.

Air vent VT.502 ( fig. 6 ) consists of two brass (CW617N) nickel-plated half-shells 1 and 2 , threaded together with an EPDM sealing ring 10 . A polypropylene float 3 moves freely inside the body, which, with its bracket, acts on the holder of the spool 5 , made of nylon. The spool 6 with the holder 5 is connected with the orifice 4 (nylon) by means of a spring connection 7 (material - stainless steel grade AISI306).0024 2 float 3 is lowered by acting on holder 5 . In this case, the spool 6 opens the calibrated (1.5 mm) hole of the jet 4 . Due to the excess pressure of the transported medium, air or other gases accumulated in the upper part of the air vent are removed to the outside through the channel of the jet 4 . Plug 9 is delivered in a closed position so that dust and dirt cannot enter the housing. The sealing ring on the connecting pipe allows you to mount the air vent without additional sealing materials. nine0012

Fig. 6. The design of the air vent VT.502

The principle of operation of the device for releasing the gaseous medium of an automatic air vent is somewhat reminiscent of the well-known wheel nipple (car, bicycle). They pressed the spool - air went out, released it - the valve closed. Only in the case of a nipple, the removal of excess gas is carried out manually, and in the case of an air vent - automatically, due to the mechanical action of a bracket fixed to the float. The air-gas environment sets itself free. nine0012

Despite the simplicity of the device, air vents require periodic maintenance. Dust and dirt that got into the system before filling during operation can cause clogging of the jet locking mechanism and, as a result, coolant leakage. Sometimes even the correct filling of the system through drain valves does not guarantee the absence of mechanical particles. Therefore, you can often hear from the lips of a plumber the expression: “the air vent is snotty”, i.e. the device is leaking, and, in fact, it needs to be removed for maintenance or replaced with a new one, and this will require draining the coolant from the system, which is very laborious. But for this problem, VALTEC has a solution - the shut-off valve VT.539( fig. 7 ). The valve allows the installation and removal of the automatic air vent without draining the system. The valve consists of a nickel-plated brass body, a plastic spool and a sealing ring. In the upper position, the spool is held by a stainless steel spring, and when the air vent is screwed on, the spring is compressed, thereby opening the valve.

Fig. 7. Shut-off valve V ALTEC VT.539

An air vent, like a safety valve or an expansion tank, is an important element in the safety of the system, therefore the overall reliability of the heating system depends on its correct selection, installation and subsequent operation.

It is important to note that VALTEC uses only high-quality raw materials and advanced equipment for production. Products are constantly being refined and improved thanks to professionals, technology development and feedback from end users, plumbers and, of course, with installation design and construction organizations. nine0012

Tire valve: role and change

The tire valve is the tip that inflates the tire and seals it. It is attached either directly to the inner tube or to the wheel rim. The tire valve is damaged while driving and must be replaced at the same time as the tires. nine0191

🚗 How does a tire valve work?

La d'un valve tire A car tire is a rubber tip that sits on the tire. The tire valve, fitted with a plastic cap, has two main functions:

  • Allow tire inflation and deflation;
  • Make sure it is tight.

The tire valve can be attached to the inner tube or to the rim, as is the case with tubeless tire valves. It is of two types:

  • The Schrader type valve consists of a rubber tube and a spring piston that allows air to escape from the tire;
  • Electronic valve , mandatory for new vehicles from 2014, consists of an electronic sensor that measures tire pressure and transmits it to a computer. When the pressure is too low, a warning light comes on on the instrument panel.

In short, the tire valve prevents air from escaping from the tire, but also prevents dirt from entering the tire. Hence, it also plays a protective role. Finally, this allows, in particular, to do tire pressure and then maintain that pressure by keeping the air inside.

👨‍🔧 Leaky tire valve: what to do?

One of the functions of a tire valve is to seal it by keeping air inside the tire. But over time and miles, it can get worse as it is subjected to the pressure and centrifugal force of rolling tires.

Damaged tire valve can cause Air leak and pressure drop tire. The main cause of tire valve leakage is its age, and the mechanism it contains eventually fails. nine0012

The risk of tire valve failure lies in the slow release of air from the tire. No matter how hard you apply pressure and re-inflate it, it will continue to lose air. However, driving with improperly inflated tires is dangerous: loss of traction, increased stopping distance, reduced tire life and risk of bursting.

Therefore, the valve in a leaking tire must be repaired or replaced. We also recommend replacing tire valves every time you change tires. nine0012

🔧 How to change the valve in a tire?

To change the tire valve, you must disassemble the wheel and separate the tire from the rim. You must use valve stem extractor to replace the latter. However, there are also CIP tire valve replacement tools, but these are often not compatible with electronic valves.

Material:

  • Tools
  • Air compressor
  • Tire arm
  • Valve stem puller
  • New tire valve

Step 1.

Disassemble the wheel

Start by loosening the nuts on the wheel whose tire valve you want to replace. Do this with the car on the ground without completely removing the nuts, then jack up the car and place it on jack stands to secure it.

Finish loosening the wheel nuts and remove it. Lay it on the floor with the outer side up. Remove the tire valve cap, then remove the core with a valve stem remover. Let the tire go down. nine0012

Step 2: Separate the tire from the rim.

After the tire is flat, you must detach it from the rim. You can use a sledgehammer all over the tire. Then, using an iron, remove the tire from the rim by inserting it between the tire and the edge of the rim.

Step 3: Install New Tire Valve

After separating the tire from the rim, you can remove the stem from the tire valve.
