    Tire blackening, rubber paint

    After a certain time, the tires on the wheels lose their color - fade, affecting the overall appearance of the car. There are two ways to restore the lost shine and color of wheel tires: using blackening or paint for rubber.

    methods

    Blackening of tires

    The process of blackening tires involves covering the tires with a special liquid - blackener. You can buy such a tool at the car market or in special stores. The range of factory blacks is represented by two types of blackening mixtures:

    1. Brilliant. These substances are made, as a rule, on the basis of a lubricant that has a silicone composition. When applied to a tire, the surface of the rubber becomes glossy. At the same time, “brilliant” products are perfectly washed and are not washed off for several washes. The disadvantage of these inks is that they strongly stain the surface. If the blackener gets on the surface of the car, the body will have to be washed for a very long time. Therefore, when applying these products to rubber, safety measures must be observed (use rubber gloves, do not allow substances to come into contact with the skin). nine0008
    2. Matt. These products do not provide a mirror surface to the tires after applying the substance to the tire, but they add brightness to the shade of the tire. The appearance of tires after using these blackening agents becomes bright, better than that of new tires. Of the shortcomings, it should be noted:
    • less resource than "shiny" substances: "matte" is easier to wash off with water;
    • are quickly absorbed.

    In addition to improving the appearance of tires, blackeners protect rubber from external negative effects of sunlight, water, chemicals, and so on. The protective function of these substances is possible due to the creation of a thin film on the surface of the tire. nine0003

    We recommend watching a video about blackening tires at home:

    Making your own blackeners

    Blackening with a solution of glycerin and water

    Applying blackening or paint to restore the color of rubber requires a lot of money. To save the budget, many motorists make ink at home. Consider the most common recipes for these substances.

    Use of glycerin

    Glycerin can be purchased at the pharmacy, the substance is sold in a bottle of 25 or 40 ml. To obtain an ink solution, you will need from 5 to 7 bottles. Glycerin is poured into a container with a sprayer (a container for washing glasses or spraying plants, and so on). Water is poured into the same container, a ratio of 1: 1, for example, for 6 bottles of glycerin you will need:

    • 6*25=150 ml water;
    • 6*40=240 ml water.

    In the first version, the volume of the glycerine bottle is 25 ml, in the second, 40 ml. Before applying a mixture of glycerin and water to tires, the tires are thoroughly washed and dried. The ink mixture is applied to a sponge or rag, with which the blackening process is performed. Advantages of using a glycerin mixture:

    • low cost;
    • the ability to refresh the color of tires regularly;
    • availability and speed of the blackening process, no need to have special skills;
    • Possibility to use the specified mixture for blackening the bumper.

    Disadvantages:

    • under ideal operating conditions, the car blackening film will last a week on the surface of tires;
    • blackened bumper can even be washed away by rain;
    • glycerin attracts dust;
    • The beautiful black color of the tires will disappear after the first wash.

    Laundry soap

    A soap bar with at least 70% fatty acids will do. The process of returning the lost color to tires consists of the following steps:

    • clean the surface of the tire from dirt, moisten the tire with water;
    • lather a brush with medium bristles with laundry soap;
    • Use a brush to rub the soap solution into the surface of the tire.

    The advantages of this method:

    • ease of use; nine0008
    • low cost.

    Disadvantages: Laundry soap dries out tires a lot, reducing their resource - this method of blackening should not be used regularly.

    PMS-200 silicone oil

    To blacken tires in this way, apply a little silicone to a sponge and use it to rub the substance into a clean surface of the tire. Advantages:

    • the effect is longer lasting than that of the previous methods;
    • one bottle of this stainer is enough for a year with regular use; nine0008
    • no harm to tire surface.

    Disadvantages: The cost of the product is slightly higher than previous methods.

    Shoe cream

    Using this method you can use:

    • Shoe cream black;
    • colorless shoe shine;
    • shoe polish.

    Before applying the decalcifier, the tires are washed, then a little decalcifying agent is applied to a sponge or rag and with its help the substance is rubbed into the rubber surface. Benefits:

    • long-term effect;
    • if the substance gets on the car body, it can be washed off.

    Disadvantages: you can not use the car immediately after blackening, you need to wait until the coloring matter hardens - from 10 to 15 minutes.

    Tire tuning with paint

    Car tuning option with inscription on the tire

    You can return the lost gloss to tires by applying blackening or paint for rubber. The second method allows you to achieve a longer result than the first method. In addition, painting tires allows you to tune the car, making it look original. nine0003

    Please note: you need to paint the outer part of the tire, the inner side of the product is invisible, and the working surface is in contact with the roadway. Perhaps incomplete coloring of the outside of the tire, it is allowed to apply special inscriptions that differ in color from the color of the tire. For painting tires, it is better to use a special paint with the following properties:

  • rubber adhesive; nine0008
  • providing an elastic layer after drying, otherwise, when the car is moving under the influence of loads on the wheel, the paint layer will crack;
  • with increased wear resistance.
  • If you paint tires with a special paint, you can protect the rubber from external factors and thus extend the life of the tires.

    The most popular white rubber paint, with its help, letters and inscriptions are applied to the surface of the tires, and the car acquires a retro style. If you want to use a different color scheme, you should take into account the area of painting, since the price of colored paint is high. nine0003

    Rubber paints based on latex or rubber should be preferred. At the same time, keep in mind: ordinary latex paints for painting, for example, walls will not work, they will not be able to provide proper elasticity due to their low latex content.

    Please note: if you want to highlight a particular inscription on the tire, you can purchase a marker filled with paint - this will greatly simplify the work.

    Do-it-yourself tire painting

    Painted wheel at home

    When starting the painting process, carry out preparatory work:

    • inflate tires to working pressure;
    • wash the surface of the tire from dirt, for this purpose you can use soda diluted with water to a mushy state;
    • degrease the surface of the tire using alcohol or thinner;
    • let the tire dry completely.

    Required tools and materials:

    • rubber paint; nine0008
    • special brush or spray gun, it is possible to use a marker with paint;
    • masking tape;
    • rubber degreaser;
    • napkin or sponge to wipe off smudges.

    When painting, the sealant is slightly warmed up, so it fits better on the rubber surface. If you plan to make an inscription or a drawing on the tire, then masking tape is used to obtain a clear line. It is possible to paint over a tire well by applying several layers of paint, approximately 2-3 layers. Painted rubber can be used 24 hours after the final coat of paint has been applied. nine0003

    When applying certain lines or symbols to the rubber, keep in mind:

    1. Do not make a thick line in the middle of the tire, it will visually divide the tire into two parts.
    2. A thin line in the middle of the tire will make the wheel look smaller.
    3. To visually blur the outline of the wheel and make it fuzzy, a contrasting line is applied along the outer edge of the tire.
    4. Visually makes the profile of the tire smaller and increases the size of the rims line along the inner contour of the tire. nine0008

    Of the presented options for applying the line, the most advantageous are stripes along the inner contour of the product. It should be borne in mind that such tuning of low-profile tires will make the rubber bead too thin: the tire will look ridiculous.

    Wrong combinations of several colors must also be avoided. For example, it is not recommended to tune wheels in green with red tires if the car body is gray. The best option is when the inscription matches the color of the body, or serves as its contrast. nine0003

    Conclusion

    Using blackening or paint for rubber, first of all, it is worth considering the benefits for tires from applying certain products to tires. For example, too frequent use of laundry soap to make tires shine will reduce the life of a tire, while glycerin and silicone substances prevent the rubber compound from drying out.

    When painting tires with paint, consider the composition of the coloring matter. Incorrectly selected paint will quickly crack and make the appearance of the wheels unattractive. nine0003

    Paint for rubber: 👍 selection criteria and application (+25 photos)

    Lately car tuning has been very popular. Vehicle owners do not skimp on finishing their cars, they change the shade of the car and the color of the headlights, apply all sorts of images and even darken the rear windows. Most, of course, transform the appearance of the body, but some of the motorists are experimenting with the color of the wheels, for this a unique rubber paint is used. In this article, we will look at how to apply paints on rubber, as well as understand the process of painting wheel tires. nine0003

      Rubber Paint Application

      Experts distinguish several functions of this kind of coloring compositions, while it is worth noting that they have a unique consistency, high durability and incredible pigmentation. nine0255 Paints for rubber are primarily used to protect rubber products from the negative effects of environmental factors, as well as from the effects of other chemical compounds (gasoline, oil).

      Rubber is characterized by a rapid loss of its original appearance and elasticity, the constant use of tires only exacerbates this situation. Therefore, to protect rubber, it is recommended to use universal coloring compounds.

      Another of the main functions of rubber paints is to provide reliable waterproofing of rubber products, in particular car tires. Such a measure is simply necessary when operating the car in regions with high humidity or in places where direct contact of rubber with water is expected. To increase the reliability of rubber waterproofing, it is customary to paint the material with special paints of a suitable modification. nine0003

      Attention! The painting process increases the resistance of the surface to weathering, as well as its water-repellent properties (this applies to both salt and fresh water).

      Where is the material used?

      Most often, this coloring composition is used for painting rubber fixtures, especially for car tires. For those motorists who seek to change the original appearance of their car, tire painting will be a great solution. Such a transformation of the wheels will give the vehicle a more stylish, unique design. The most important thing here is to choose the right color and type of paint. nine0003

      Important! Not all types of rubber paints that are available in stores are suitable for painting car tires.

      Nuances when choosing

      And yet, how to paint rubber, what paint is suitable for vehicle wheel tires? This is a rather complicated question, therefore, before buying paint, it is better to consult with a specialist (depending on the purpose, the seller will select the appropriate modification of the coloring composition for you).

      Standard acrylic or enamel paints cannot be used for painting tires, as car wheels are constantly subjected to increased mechanical stress (such paint mixtures are not able to withstand prolonged mechanical stress).

      Let's highlight the main criteria that paints must meet:

      • high adhesion to rubber;
      • good elasticity after drying on the surface;
      • strength and wear resistance. nine0008

      When choosing a material for painting car tires, pay attention to the composition. For the highest quality and durable application, paints based on rubber, latex or polyurethane are suitable. They allow you to achieve a uniform layer of the required degree of strength, that is, such a coating will not disappear at the first load, as well as during tension and compression.

      Please note! Ordinary paints, for example, for walls, which also contain latex, are completely unsuitable for painting tires (they do not contain enough of the main component that gives elasticity). nine0003

      Tire painting technology

      Car wheels can rightfully be called one of the most important parts of a vehicle, especially for sports cars, where tires and a single design of the wheel structure become a distinctive design component. If you want to profitably transform your vehicle, then the first question you should ask yourself is how to paint rubber? nine0003

      There is a wide range of tire paints, tire paints and other similar items on the market today. If you cannot find such compositions in your city, you can always contact a specialized center where services such as painting and car tuning are offered.

      The process of painting wheels can be divided into two main steps:

      1. Wheel painting.
      2. Tire painting.

      Let's take a closer look at the second stage, since it is here that many problems arise:

      1. Tire bleeding. Before painting tires, tires must be inflated to working condition.

      2. Cleaning the work surface. The area to be painted over must be cleaned of dirt and degreased with a special agent (White spirit, universal degreaser).

      3. Selection of painting zones. If you plan to paint a specific area on the tire, use electrical tape to hide other elements.

      4. Paint application. First, decide which tool it will be more convenient for you to work with (brush, roller or paint sprayer). Spray paints are also on sale, it is much more convenient to work with them, but the material consumption is greater. Before applying the paint, it is recommended to heat it up a little so that it lies more evenly. Layers should be at least two or three.

      5. Drying. It is important to leave the tire to dry after applying each layer for about 24 hours, only after the previous one has completely dried, a new layer is applied. After the finish coating, the product can be put into use in a day. nine0003

      What is important to know

      Tire painting technology consists in partial painting, this is due to uneven location (that is, one part of the tire is hidden, and its main surface is constantly in contact with the road). During long driving, the tire is subject to rapid wear of the tint coating. That is why it is wrong to compare body painting and vehicle tire painting.

      In most cases, white paint is used for rubber objects, which favorably emphasizes all the features of the wheels. However, tuning companies have a wide variety of shades, both neutral and bright colors. Black paint and well-pigmented colors are used to decorate collectible cars due to their high cost and certain difficulties in applying. On the contrary, the white color of the composition is relatively inexpensive and does not require special skills in painting work. nine0003

      Difficulties may arise in painting narrow tires made of low-profile rubber, in such cases, partial tinting of individual areas or surface highlighting of any inscription or image is used.
