If your speedometer reads:

Real speed is:

Size difference between 265/70 R17 and 285/70 R17 tires.

In the tire comparison table above, you can see a detailed calculation of the size difference between 265/70 R17 and 285/70 R17 tire. The calculation results are presented in the form of visual infographics, on which tire with size 265/70 R17 is on top, and tire with size 285/70 R17 below. Both in the table and in the graph, the tires are compared according to the following indicators: overall diameter, section width, circumference, sidewall height and clearance. Also, the online application calculates the difference in real speed and speedometer readings if the difference between tire 265/70 R17 and tire 285/70 R17 is significant.

If you want to compare other tire sizes, then select their sizes in the drop-down fields and click on the green button. The online wheel calculator will then display the new results.

Comparison of tire sizes 265/70 R17 and 275/65 R17.

In the table above you can see a detailed comparison of the difference in dimensions, parameters and performance between a 265/70 R17 tire and a 275/65 R17 tire. The results of the calculations are also presented in the form of visual models (infographics), on which the tire with a size of 265/70 R17 is on top, and with a size of 275/65 R17, respectively, at the bottom. The visualization was generated in two projections: lateral (left) and frontal (right). The online calculator compares tires according to the following characteristics: diameter, width, circumference, profile height, revolutions per km, ground clearance change. Additionally, a potential deviation between the actual speed and the speed displayed on the speedometer is calculated, which can occur if the difference between tires 265/70 R17 and 275/65 R17 is significant. Consumer Reports: 265/70 R17 SUV & Pickup Tire Test (2014) | Colesa.ru

Mon, 06.10.2014 - 12:52 / Comments

US Consumer Reports' first test of Chinese tires

Consumer Reports (CR) is very popular and respected in the United States and neighboring Canada. Every year they conduct tire tests, evaluating them on the most important parameters, and this time tires of various categories for SUVs and pickups were tested. What makes this test different is that for the first time, CR decided to test the quality of tires made in China. The reason is that, as noted by CR, many car owners buy them because they can cost half the price of tires of more famous brands.

Tires of the Geostar, Pegasus and Sunny brands were taken for testing. In addition, Aeolus also participated in the tests, but CR could not find a "ready supply channel for consumers", so the results of these tires were not published. The publication noted that this is a typical problem for "off-brand" tires, because "you never know if you will find a replacement tire."

In fact, CR acknowledges that many of the leading tire manufacturers participating in the tests have been making tires in China for quite some time. But keep in mind that these tires are "designed and manufactured in accordance with quality standards dictated by local manufacturers." “Chinese tire companies do not take this factor into account, and some of them create products that are not well adapted to the requirements of the American consumer,” CR added. “While we can't rate 'build quality', our tests in various weather conditions show that these tires simply can't match well-known brands. The tested tires from Geostar, Sunny and Pegasus were at the bottom of our rankings.”

The Geostar GS716s were the most balanced of the three and have very short braking distances on dry surfaces, good handling and fairly high wear resistance. However, wet braking performance leaves much to be desired, as does traction on snow and braking on ice. For this reason, CR warns that while the Geostar may seem like an attractive choice due to its low price, there are actually significant drawbacks to these tires that should be taken into account. The even cheaper Sunny and Pegasus provide reasonably good handling on dry surfaces, but they are clearly underperforming on snowy and icy surfaces. In addition, both tires are very stiff and noisy, and they also wear out quickly.

CR warns that even aside from ride quality - which in practice should never be done - Pegasus cost half as much as tested Michelins, and for whom this may be a deciding factor. At the same time, Michelins will last almost three times as long. And this is not to mention the fact that Michelin will be clearly better in terms of their characteristics.

“Of course, if you're on a tight budget right now – and who isn't nowadays – buying cheap tires is better than used tires. But, as our tests show, in general, buying Chinese tires, such as those that have been tested, is completely unprofitable,” CR noted.

The Pegasus deserves a special mention, as distributor American Pacific Industries (API) said that "according to the DOT code, this model was not produced by any of the authorized manufacturers." Thus, CR stated that they would remove the test results of these tires from the site, since “we have not tested authorized Pegasus”.

test criteria. For all-season and off-road tires, 14 criteria are taken into account, the main ones being braking and handling, as well as hydroplaning resistance. For winter tires, the key parameters are traction on snow and braking on ice. Braking on dry and wet asphalt was carried out from 100 km / h. In the handling tests, the pilots subjectively assessed how the tires behave in corners, on a watered circuit track and during emergency obstacle avoidance. Traction was determined by how long it would take to accelerate from 8 to 32 km/h on uniformly packed snow. Ice braking was assessed from 16 km/h. Noise was assessed subjectively. Durability reflects potential tread wear after 26,000 km (winter tires excluded).

All season tires

Both top-ranking Michelins provide good year-round handling (in warm climates), as well as hydroplaning resistance and a quiet and comfortable ride. Goodyear is durable, as is Pirelli. It's worth noting that Continental, while guaranteeing short braking distances on both dry and wet surfaces, will last less than the most durable tires in the test.

Off-road tires

Excellent winter driving performance puts Hankook in first place, while Goodyear takes second place for optimal handling and effective braking on wet surfaces. Michelin and Cooper combine durability and high grip on snow and ice, and if you take Falken, you should remember that they should not be driven fast on icy roads.

Winter tires

The winning Michelins combine all the necessary qualities of a winter tire, such as high traction on snow, short braking distances on ice and good handling on wet surfaces, as well as low rolling resistance.
