How good is a attic cat atv 700

Arctic Cat Alterra 700 review

This summer, I had the chance to try the Arctic Cat ATVs, and now, I have the pleasure of giving you my review of the Alterra 700. This single-seater surprised me and didn’t leave me indifferent! Here is my analysis of it.

First observation, the clutch lever is of a smoothness that I have rarely seen on quads. It moves with disconcerting ease. Precise shifting isn’t always very easy initially, as there is a lack of reference points. However, once you get used to the Alterra 700, it becomes easier and smoother to select the right driving mode.

The controls station has a classic Arctic Cat display; it’s simple and efficient. The brake is located on the left-hand side. On the right-hand side, a small controller that looks like a bicycle lever is used to engage the four-wheel drive. It works well, even if it’s not common in the industry! The foot brake is on the right-hand side. The latter is a little high, and the footwell is a bit low, making it accessible when sitting on the vehicle.

On the other hand, current ergonomics do not allow you to press the brake with ease when standing. It’s challenging to pivot because the footwell is too low. It’s a detail that won’t affect many people, but I’m unfortunately one of those who enjoy riding standing up.

Driving the Alterra 700

The Alterra 700 is easy to handle. The Alterra driving is very precise, and that’s exactly what I’m looking for in a utility vehicle.

I must admit that the smooth-riding and comfort of this vehicle won me over. It’s easy to control and comfortable for long rides, which I didn’t expect from a work machine.

Suspension

As for the suspension of the Alterra 700, it handles the trail well. It seemed softer than the Kodiak’s yet at the same time stiffer than the Yamaha Grizzly’s. It offers a good compromise. The travel of this suspension is exceptionally long compared to direct competition. With 10 inches of travel, I must say that the Alterra handles holes very well. The vehicle is comfortable and offers good stability on the trail.

With 11 inches of ground clearance, the ATV is high enough to avoid obstacles. This is a necessary feature for a utility vehicle, and here the job has been very well completed!

However, this ATV has a slight tendency to dive at higher speeds. Without being uncontrollable or excessive, it’s an aspect of the vehicle’s behaviour that should be kept in mind, especially if you want to negotiate curves aggressively. That said, this vehicle is fun to drive and easily handles our trails’ curves and hazards with flexibility. You can reduce diving by increasing the preload on the springs.

Storage

An important aspect is the ability to transport the necessities: tools, telecommunications, water, food, etc. Unfortunately, the Alterra 700 offers only a small trunk in the back. There’s a lack of storage space on this vehicle when it comes out of the factory. On the plus side, people who work with their vehicles will love the Alterra’s all-metal luggage racks. It’s straightforward to tie bags and accessories to it. Personally speaking, I think this vehicle could be inspired a bit by the competition and offer a trunk integrated into the front fender. The TRV’s central trunk would be an interesting option. However, if it results in the loss of quick access to the air filter, I prefer to do without it.

In terms of accessories, a wide variety of boxes, baskets, bags, and luggage rack extensions are available — all at a reasonable price. I am also astonished by the diversity on offer. I invite you to consult the accessory section on the manufacturer’s website. I’ll still give you an overview here below.

Performance

In terms of performance, the engine under trial on our machine is Textron’s 695CC single-cylinder engine. It has also been improved since the 2019 models. We have a simple and easy-to-maintain engine. As with all large-volume single-cylinder engines, this one offers good torque. However, like most vehicles in this class, it has less horsepower than American twin-cylinder engines.

Accelerations from stop to trail cruising speed are very enjoyable. High-speed recoveries are not spectacular, but they are still decent. Remember, this is a utility vehicle. As far as driving is concerned, you won’t break any speed records. However, I can’t complain because it reaches the same speed as the other vehicles in the category. Overall, it has enough power to be enjoyable and is very capable on the trail.

Let’s get to work!

As far as the work is concerned, I don’t have many complaints about this vehicle: the original tires are not perfect with a 4-ply construction. On the other hand, their traction surprised me: it’s superior to the AT tires found everywhere in the category. Even though the vehicle does not have the same towing capabilities as some vehicles in this class, it’s more than enough to tow firewood trailers or your moose in the fall. So, I have no difficulty recommending this vehicle to anyone who wants to move loaded trailers and work. The number of accessories available shows that the Alterra 700 is an excellent choice. Especially, if we want a vehicle adapted to our needs.

Maintenance of the Alterra 700

I notice one very important thing: the easy access to get to the oil filter. It may seem trivial, but a vehicle designed for ease of maintenance is a definite advantage for the quad rider wishing to perform maintenance on his vehicle. I have to say that if the access is easy, it’s easier to motivate oneself to perform this task. Although it may seem insignificant, it’s incredibly important for the life of your vehicle.

Also, the air filter is under the seat and is quite easy to access. This makes it easy to clean or replace.

It’s, however, a little more challenging to reach the oil probe. It’ll require the removal of a panel along with the footsteps. The addition of a small quick-access hatch would significantly improve this aspect.

In general, the vehicle is good in terms of ease of maintenance. I must mention the impressive tool bag that this vehicle is equipped with. I’ve never seen so many tools on a factory vehicle; hats off to Arctic-Cat!

Overall, the Alterra 700 offers good value. It may not be the most impressive ATV on the market, but its affordability is compelling. This machine is sure to make an interesting place in the equation for the consumer who wants to get more value for his money. It’s an excellent all-around vehicle. I loved riding this ATV for long periods.

I must thank the people at Arctic Cat for the trial of this vehicle.

This frame surprised me, and that’s why I invite you to try the Alterra experience. Comfort, driving precision, and performance will, perhaps, charm you!

Two quad riders happy with their Alterra experience.

We review Arctic Cat's 700 auto diesel all-terrain vehicle

Up and down mountains, pulling disabled vehicles, or just playing on trails in the heat or snow, the Arctic Cat 700 Auto Diesel is an ATV you should consider for hard work on not much fuel.

Performance of this Arctic Cat diesel all-terrain vehicle is surprising.

Up and down mountains, pulling disabled vehicles, or just playing on trails in the heat or snow, the Arctic Cat 700 Auto Diesel is an ATV you should consider for hard work on not much fuel.

One of the main complaints you hear from folks about diesel-powered all-terrain vehicles usually has to do with their inability to get out of the way of a lunch-hour mail truck. Arctic Cat's 700 Auto Diesel all-terrain vehicle ends that syndrome.

While you won't find the 700 setting any land world speed records, it runs quite fast enough for the workhorse it is. And, off the line, don't stand in the way of this Minnesotan! While weighing in empty at 823 lbs., the 700 Diesel jumps from a dead stop and will top-end in about 10-12 seconds, right around 40 miles per hour.

The continuously variable transmission has two ranges, but we jokingly wonder why they bothered with a "low" since the long-stroke diesel will handle just about anything in "high. " In fact, the only time we used "low" over the all-terrain vehicle's five-month stay at our house, was loading it up ramps into the pickup (where it fits nicely) and pulling a disabled 2,700-lb. Jeep CJ5 through some mud after an embarrassing U-joint incident. Even on steep mountain trails the high range had plenty of leverage going up, and excellent engine braking coming down -- with two adults on board! (The 700 Diesel is available with a second rider seat, and built-in foot rests.)

Power comes from an Italian-made Lombardini 686 cc.displacement (41.8 cubic inches) vertical two-cylinder diesel engine that will run a very long time on the contents of the vehicle's 5.5 gallon fuel tank. Arctic Cat recommends B20 biodiesel fuel, but the machine also will run on Diesel #1, #2/JP-5 or JP-8 turbine fuel.

To say the 700 is thrifty is putting it mildly. In the mountains of New Mexico, we took the Dark Green all-terrain vehicle up three different trails, all leading to or above the timber line. In all, riding double, my wife and I put 38 miles on the 700 with lots of idling stops for pictures and sight-seeing. After those 19 miles up and 19 miles down, we topped it off with 1.8 gallons of diesel fuel. I filled it when we got back to Oklahoma and three months later, after another 30 miles or so doing chores around our house, there was still well more than half a tank of fuel on board. This thing is a sure-footed goat on the hills but eats like a parakeet!

Our impression of the 700 Auto Diesel is a very good one. The brakes are excellent - we seldom used the foot brake, relying mainly on the hydraulic left handle-bar lever to stop. The indirect-injected engine starts easily in hot and cold weather and everything in between with its glow-plugs and heavy-duty battery.

The four-wheel independent suspension makes for smooth riding, but we noticed when you overload the 2-inch receiver hitch (and most folks will) there's quite a bit of "squat." Still if you stay within Arctic Cat's recommendations all is well. The machine will easily tow any reasonably-loaded trailer.

Four-wheel-drive is available on-the-go at the flick of a switch on the right handle bar. If the going really gets tough, a front differential lock hooks both front wheels together to climb whatever is in their way.

The lights are excellent.

Complaints? On our all-terrain vehicle, the thumb-operated throttle had excessive travel. You have to move the lever almost half of its total travel before the engine tips in. You get used to it, but it's an irritation that needs to be adjusted or redesigned.

Because it's a diesel, the 700 uses a small, but very high-capacity battery to power the starter against the engine's high compression. Also, it has to light the glow plugs in cold weather. The machine we received had a defective battery from the factory (which happens to any manufacturer), and, while Arctic Cat immediately paid for a new one, it became apparent AC dealers weren't stocking replacements yet, and that was six months into the production of the 700. The AC dealer in Albuquerque pointed us in the right direction to a battery store that had the item on the shelf.

The 700 Auto Diesel is a big machine and at first it feels "heavy" to maneuver, particularly at very slow speeds. After some seat time, however, we became accustomed to the "feel" and found the machine to be a very faithful companion, and one we would certainly consider if we were buying. The fuel economy and the once-a-year maintenance schedule are very attractive.

You can buy one for $9,299 and it comes with front and back cargo racks, an owner's manual and small tool kit under the seat, and the ability deliver just about anything you decide to do.

Arctic Cat TRV 700, 2011

Bought a 2011 cat, my first quad and got 260 km in five days of riding. It is too early to draw conclusions, but over time I will definitely write how the Arctic Cat TRV 700 behaves. breakdowns in general, only scheduled maintenance. I didn’t climb the swamps, pokatushki on forest roads impress me more. Although he easily overcame water fords, he also passed dirt porridge after showers without problems, the Arctic Cat TRV 700 behaves more than worthy in sand pits, stubbornly pulls along sand embankments. It was possible to pull cars out of the sandy rut when they sat on the bottom. Near the lake and sand quarries, a lot of vacationers come by car and sometimes fall into such a trap. Suspension adjusted harder, because. the soft suspension strongly reflects the dirt road onto the frame at high speed. On asphalt, the Arctic Cat TRV 700 accelerates quickly and has a top speed of about 110 km per hour. In winter, I didn’t go far, but I have to turn on all-wheel drive, and seat heating would not hurt, and this is an additional option. The tow bar came in handy once (an additional option), when in February a friend and I decided to ride along the forest, he has a BRP 650, smoothly sat down on the snow with their belly and pulled each other out of the snow captivity for a long time using winches and a tow bar. Everyone who wants to have an ATV should, when choosing, be guided both by their financial budget and the purpose of the equipment, the equipment is all different, but the essence remains the same, not only enjoy the trips, but so that your choice never fails. nine0015

Pros of : Soft suspension is only good for smoother roads or slow driving. Comfortable back seat. Smooth acceleration without jerks. Electric power steering.

Disadvantages : fuel consumption approx. 15 liters per 100 km. The suspension is better adjusted stiffer for dirt roads.

Nikolai, Nizhny Novgorod

Arctic Cat TRV 700, 2013

I will describe my feelings. The advantages of the Arctic Cat TRV 700 include: bottom protection - thick plastic. The electric power steering is a very good thing. Good brakes, comfortable suspension, availability of everything that is required for repair and maintenance. Good plastic - although it is not yet known how it will behave in the cold. A good winch, a comfortable and roomy rear trunk, glass with hand protection, heated steering wheel and passenger handles. Clear gear shifting, comfortable seat, especially for the passenger. Oil cooler - in order to overheat the engine, you need to drain the antifreeze. Hour meter and good lighting tidy, rollover sensor. Engine - what a liter is capable of, I don’t know, very much nothing and 700 cubes. Setting the variator to low gear - the Arctic Cat TRV 700 crawls like a tank, although I practically don’t use it, well, it’s just beautiful. nine0015

Defects. The Arctic Cat TRV 700 has no standard headlights. This is probably the problem with almost all ATVs. It is not clear why you can not fix the headlights, no matter what they shake like an epileptic. It is also incomprehensible that there is a gap almost a finger thick along the perimeter of the headlights. Although I once had a Grand Cherokee, there was the same nonsense, apparently typical Americanism. After the UTV, the lack of a sound signal was annoying. Anther protection is a fiction. Mirrors up and down are not adjustable and seem to be designed for a small increase, although in principle it is not a problem to adjust them. The bumper bar does not protect the rather poor plastic headlights from branches of trees and shrubs. I can assume that additional assembly - screwing heating, winches, bumpers already took place with us - it is unlikely that Mexican guest workers know how to break the thread and forget to insert connectors into the counterpart. The power wires on the Arctic Cat TRV 700 are screwed to the contactor and the winch are also not without problems - I think so. Summary - As such, the Arctic Cat TRV 700 has no shortcomings. There are small backlashes in the lower ball joints, but I suspect that this is a design feature that does not affect anything. If not, correct it. nine0015

Advantages : in recall.

Disadvantages : in recall.

Vladimir, Moscow

Arctic Cat TRV 700, 2014

I am happy with my choice. The Arctic Cat TRV 700 rides so well that riding with a passenger on board is no problem at all. The TRV is based on the platform of a regular model with a 700cc engine. The extra wheelbase, combined with Arctic Cat's long independent rear suspension, gives the TRV exceptional stability and a smooth ride. You really don't notice the extra weight, and as a passenger, you will feel safe. The longer seat shortens the rear deck, but the TRV is designed to use the Arctic Cat MRP system of interchangeable accessories that mount to the front deck. So there is no problem with luggage transportation. With an overall length of 8 feet, the Arctic Cat TRV 700 is 15 inches longer than the standard Cat 700 4x4, which means it's stable on super tight turns. The capacity of the two-seat Arctic Cat TRV 700 expands its ATV versatility for hunting (especially if you're hunting with kids), farming, and everyday trail riding. nine0015

Advantages : 2-seater. Comfortable. Universal. Powerful. Economical.

Disadvantages of : I found the engine a bit noisy.

Danny, Toronto

2015 Arctic Cat TRV 700

Very large and spacious ATV (in its class). Thanks to the 2-seater seat, I can now take my eldest son with me on trips. He never commented on the fact that he was at least once uncomfortable and his back hurt. The chic luggage attachment system is located in the front, which is very convenient. Great engine, but to be honest, I would like a more powerful liter. The lack of power is sometimes felt when driving on slopes with a full load. Excellent suspension work, softly. Repairable apparatus, spare parts are relatively inexpensive and available. Good cross-country ability, unpretentious to repair, the variator switches perfectly. The ground clearance is great. nine0015

Advantages : unpretentious in repair. Excellent pendant. Engine. Comfortable 2-seater seat.

Flaws : not noticed.

    Arctic Cat MudPro 700, 2011

Honestly, I doubted my choice very much, I wanted to keep the Grizzly 700, but finances did not allow, although I am glad that my Grizzly found new owner in the face of my friend. Having made the first inspection of the Arctic Cat MudPro 700 and compared it with the Grizzly, I was disappointed. At Yamaha, everything is folded like a piano, and from the "Cat" it blew some kind of "self-made". It only looked beautiful from a distance. After grumbling in the store and forcing them to fit everything, he took the ATV to check the next day. Honestly, putting the "Cat" in the garage, I was shocked by first impressions. The steering wheel does not turn and strives to stabilize back all the time, it seems that the reinforced drives and huge angles of the levers played a huge role in this. The Yamaha is much more comfortable to sit on. The Arctic Cat MudPro 700 has a much wider space, where the Yamaha has a tank, and the Cat has it in the back. This immediately led to the idea that when you overcome an obstacle with an empty tank, you need to load the ass at the “Cat”. Further, in MudPro 700 somehow all the mechanisms are open and not cleaned. The wiring, which hung freely, was immediately taken into the corrugations. Well, now what do you like. Power bumpers front and rear. A formidable weapon against obstacles. The branded snorkel does not look like a fancy sewer on a wildly expensive vehicle. The footrests are functionality. The dirt won't stay. The foot brake is rough compared to the Grizzly 700 and sticks out too much, but we'll see how it goes on the go. On the go, then it turned out to be convenient, especially in the mud. The display is purely "Arctic-Katovsky" and could not get used to it, or rather, could not convert miles into km. But outwardly, "Yamahovsky" is more pleasant. The ignition key is in an unusual place for me. The Arctic Cat MudPro 700 has a truly dirt-tuned drivetrain. It rides just fine, the large suspension travel makes it more stable on the rut when falling over. Yes, and four-wheel drive included not often. I slowly noticed that I was sitting on it a lot more than on the Grizzly. But from these pluses follow the minuses. The main one: the hands are tired and fall off, the calluses even rubbed through the gloves, the speed of movement on the Grizzly was greater. On the Arctic Cat MudPro 700, you sit more comfortably in the seat, but the speed is slower. The "lower" is tuned so low compared to the "Grizzly" that you drive up the mountain, the trailer, the obstacle is just a centimeter. There was an opinion that I was driving a Kirovets. It goes up a steep hill at a large angle at low gas and does not choke. "Cat" really liked. Only it is necessary to perceive it differently. So far, this is the cheapest and most well-prepared "mud mixer". nine0015

Advantages : for dirt - that's it. Downshift. Patency.

    Disadvantages : appearance. Dynamics.

    Oleg, Arkhangelsk

    Arctic Cat MudPro 700, 2014

I had one, the technique sucks, I do not advise anyone to buy Arctic Cat MudPro. It is very unstable and rolls over in no time, especially in ruts. In some competitions, with a very moderate ride, there are about 7 coups, although I know how to drive. Absolutely not adapted for movement at a speed of more than 50 km / h. True on the pavement up to 93 km/h accelerates. When braking hard, it is easy to roll forward. Drives and grenades are consumables. Metallic paint peels off and washes away with dirt. The service sucks and you can’t wait for spare parts, even the distributor doesn’t keep them, not to mention dealers. In the mud "Bombs" and "Yamaha" do it. In addition, the Arctic Cat MudPro is very heavy and cannot be pulled out without the help of a winch, but it burrows “be healthy”. The steering wheel cannot be turned at all. I can write a lot more, but I will try to summarize: “out of 6 months of operation, 4 he stood for repairs.” In general, Arctic Cat's quads suck, for that kind of money it's better to take a Yamaha and bring it to mind or BRP and always ride with a smile. nine0015

    Advantages : very few.

Disadvantages : very unstable. Dye. Service. Breaks down.

    Arctic Cat MudPro 700, 2016

Facts only. Arctic Cat MudPro 700, 2nd season on it, 5500 km. What is made of repair and maintenance. Oil change 2 times (well, no comment here). Corrugated wiring (won't hurt anyone). Steering damper (no amplifier). The suspension is all in caprolon + grease fittings (do not try to put the original in the repair). Replacing native steering tips with converted ones from links (after that, there is no more play). Replacing ball joints several times, as a result, filled with polyacetal and forgot about wear. Replacing the native winch with 4500Lb synthetics (just wanted to, native fire). Replacing the anthers drives (to blame). Replacing the cardan cross - with a syringe (well, that's how it should be). In general, that's all - native belt, tires, battery, native. What is there in the motor - who knows - did not drown, the bearings in the hubs are native. Yamaha Grizzly sometimes I take a ride - the sensations of a scooter after the Arctic Cat MudPro 700. nine0015

    Advantages : ground clearance. Patency.

    Flaws : minor problems.

    2018 Arctic Cat MudPro 700

I have a 2018 Arctic Cat MudPro 700 and love it. Keep in mind that many people who have axle problems with their MudPro 700s usually ride with big tires (from what I know). With my MudPro 700, I can honestly say that it would be difficult for me to move to a "normal" quad without any upgrades. You get used to the vivacity of the engine, you get used to the suspension, to the high ground clearance. I had some lighting and electrical issues with my ATV. I had to replace almost all the seals in the suspension, and now I need to replace the front differential leading to the engine. The only downside to the Arctic Cat MudPro 700 is the lack of dynamics, speed can be a problem when all your buddies are in 600s or higher, you top out around 50-53 mph. nine0015

Advantages : suspension. Landing. Four-wheel drive. Engine.

    Disadvantages : maximum speed.

    Arctic Cat MudPro 700 2017

Arctic Cat MudPro 700 Rigid ATVs The way they are adapted to off-road is really amazing, they do a great job in the mud. I have had an Arctic Cat MudPro 700 for 2 years and have driven it mercilessly wherever possible. I've never repaired a front diff or broken an axle, it's all under control. Suspension is the most important thing Arctic Cat MudPro has and does not require any tuning or intervention. The Arctic Cat MudPro 700 has more ground clearance than any other bike from the factory. All in all, I'm happy with my ATV. nine0015

Advantages : ground clearance. Suspension. Reliability. Powerful engine.

    Disadvantages : dynamics.

The Arctic Cat MudPro 700 is an off-road vehicle designed to tackle the toughest wetlands. Its simple and modern appearance expresses the ATV's readiness to conquer marshy places and sandy beaches. With its design, it resembles a mini-tractor that can pull an impressive trailer or ride a biker along the “crossroads”.
