2019 Can-Am Outlander MAX 6x6 DPS 450 vs. Polaris Sportsman 6x6 570 Big Boss - Polaris Motorcycles

BRP Can-Am and Polaris are the most famous ATV manufacturers and eternal rivals. And now they have something to compete in: both have released all-wheel drive all-terrain vehicles of medium cubic capacity. Six-wheeled models are designed to perform heavy work, for example, transporting goods from hard-to-reach places where other vehicles cannot pass.

Usually large ATVs are characterized by "large" numbers: cubic capacity, power, towing capabilities, and so on. But with the Can-Am Outlander MAX and Sportsman Big Boss, it's a different story - they're solid, solid mid-rangers. In this article, we will see how they cope with utilitarian tasks, and decide which model is still more profitable to buy.

Can-Am Outlander MAX 6×6 DPS 450

Polaris Sportsman 6×6 570 Big Boss

The Polaris Sportsman 6x6 570 Big Boss is powered by a 567cc ProStar four-stroke fuel injected engine. It has only one cylinder and two camshafts. The quad produces 44 hp. The gearbox is CVT, which means that you won’t have to be distracted by it.

The same engine is installed on many Polaris models - the solution is proven and will not bring surprises.

The Outlander MAX 6×6 DPS 450 is powered by a single cylinder Rotax engine. Compared to Big Boss, its volume is 140 cubic meters less - only 427 cm³. In terms of horses, the Outlander is not so much inferior to the competitor, its power is 38 hp.

Engine type - injection, like the Big Boss, the transmission is also a CVT. The ATV itself is dynamic, the lack of power is practically not felt.

Wheelbase 6x6

There are not so many six-wheeled all-terrain vehicles, they are produced in limited quantities, since the circle of consumers is very small. But experienced riders know that an additional axle takes a significant part of the load. In addition, due to it, the ATV becomes longer, which will allow you to transport larger loads.

Also, 6x6 all-wheel drive models have higher cross-country ability than light four-wheeled buggies or regular quadrics: two additional wheels “dig” along with the others.

Suspension

The 2019 Can Am Outlander MAX 6x6 DPS 450 features dual horizontal torsion bar suspension at the rear. Due to the third axle, an additional cargo platform appeared, which can withstand 158 kg. The load can be fixed with additional cables that are attached to the sides of the platform. Outlander can tow up to 748 kg.

The manufacturer supplemented the Outlander with the function of disabling the rear suspension stabilizer, which helps out during off-road trips. For the comfort of the driver and passenger, additional recesses for the legs and comfortable seats are provided.

Can-Am Outlander MAX 6x6 DPS 450

Polaris put a lot of emphasis on roominess: the Sportsman 6x6 570 Big Boss can carry loads up to 272kg. The body is compatible with Lock-N-Ride mounts and can recline. The maximum towing weight is 680 kg.

In addition to the body, the model has a 2-inch hitch - the main advantage of the model over other Sportsmen. There are also 25-liter "glove compartments".

Two sets of A-arms together with gas-charged shock absorbers form the Outlander's suspension. Its stroke is 241 mm.

Conclusion

Both ATVs are comfortable all-wheel drive models for utility tasks. Increased load capacity and body size allow you to carry more things, six-wheel base provides maximum traction.
