First let me say I have never done this to the 400EX...
However, I own a Kawasaki KFX450R and all of it's aluminum is uncoated. Like my 400EX I never had any issues with it here local. Trail ride it, wash it, done. But when I started racing and exposing it to all different types of soil pH and stuff... and sometimes it might sit filthy a week after before I had time to clean it up. ... it started getting what I call the "liver spots" in places, and in others it really started to look like baked in nastiness. Dirty looking still even when clean.
The only way to get this out is to Etch the aluminum. I personally use the Eagle One etching mag cleaner. Others us Alumibrite or aluminum boat cleaner. The latter types are stronger and cheaper in the end as they come by the gallon. But I don't use it very much and I'm not sure I want it really strong because it's corrosive to parts that are not aluminum, like the bolt heads and stuff.
The Eagle One etching mag cleaner cleans my KFX450R frame and engine right up, usually spray on hose off easy. But I don't really have much but the bolt heads to concern myself with on it. The 400EX has a painted frame and all that to watch out for.
I'd try Xtream Clean MX wash first and if that don't do it then talk around to some other 400EX owners and see if any have ever etched the engine "in frame".
A little trick I use afterwards is after the cleaning I let it dry. Then before I take it out again I spray all the aluminum down well with WD-40. I crank the quad up and let it idle and bake the stuff in. It doesn't have to be etched again for a good while if I keep cleaning with MX wash and spraying down in WD-40 between races.

Its rust from iron in the water I would say….could always try toilet bowl cleaner in a spot and see how it works. I prefer to take the motor out and do some cleaning and light sanding and steel wool then get some silver engine paint. Makes the motor look real good and lasts for a very long time.

Motors coated, so anything you use like aluminum wheel cleaner will etch the metal and eat the coating off.
Try some purple power or super clean, less harsh than wheel cleaner. If you do use wheel cleaner, spray on then rinse off within 15 secs or less or it will etch it alot and be a pain to polish back up.

x2 on purple power and super clean. prefer super clean but places dont always have it. i have had good luck with getting iron stains off if you scrub with a brush. ive used bathroom scrub brushes to get it off down by the pipe in some cases. it will take some elbow grease but if you get it off well every time, it wont stain so bad.

I figured the 400 motor might be clear coated or silver coated. Mine always gets ridden locally and cleaned right after unlike my race quad. So I have never had an issue to find all this out.

I also use Eagle One Mag Wheel Cleaner and haven't had any issues since. I used it when I did the full strip down and rebuild though, so I had the entire engine out of the frame and on the ground with everything taped off and plugged with a power washer right there to blast it off after I got it all sprayed on also. I think the bottle says to only leave it on for 10 or 15 seconds to soak, so I just sprayed it off right after I got the entire thing coated.

That stuff will etch the metal so leaving it on for more than 10 seconds or so you will have a bad time.

Yes, the etching kind indeed etches... it strips my aluminum clean on my KFX450R in a hurry. It takes some practice to get an even etch where you don't have run marks.

I used this stuff called S100 when I had a street bike, it would clean the engine really good without any scrubbing. It's a great cleaner!

Yep, S100 Total Cycle Cleaner works excellent for brightening up the engine as well as the whole quad for that matter. Makes everything look a lot more new and fresh.
I discovered S100 after trying Hondabrite at my local dealer. It's the same product just rebranded for Honda.

To catch every second of your favorite show and keep your TV in excellent condition, you'll need to clean your television screen regularly so it remains dust-, dirt- and fingerprint-free. But using the wrong cleaning method like spraying your TV directly with harsh chemicals can cause permanent damage and negate any warranty that may still be in effect.
That’s why the Good Housekeeping Institute’s Cleaning and Media and Tech Labs have joined forces to recommend the safest, most effective methods and household products to clean your television screen and reveal a picture that’s brilliant to watch and totally streak-free.
No matter what type of television you have, our recommended cleaning method remains the same. All you'll need to clean your TV screen is a dry microfiber cloth that’s designed to gently clean and remove smudges from eyeglasses, cell phones and camera lenses. Though there are thousands of microfiber cloths to choose from, our experts like Elite Tech Gear's oversized option. It's twelve inches square, so it’s easier to use on a large TV screen than a smaller cloth and helps you can zap away fingerprints quickly. And since it's designed for delicate surfaces and electronics you can use it to clean your laptop and iPad once you're done with your TV.
Here's the best way to clean a flat-screen TV without ruining it or ending up pesky little streaks, along with some useful tips on how to scrub down all the accessories that go along with it:
How to clean flat-screen plasma, LED, LCD and OLED TVs
Getty
More delicate LCD, plasma or rear-projection screens can't handle traditional wet cleaning. So whether you own a Samsung, Sony or LG TV that has built up some grime or you recently purchased a 4K flat-screen that you want to keep looking good as new without damaging it, there are a few household products you can use to clean your TV screen.
• What you'll need: Microfiber cloth or electrostatic duster; pre-moistened wipe
• How to clean: Dust the TV with a soft, dry microfiber cloth or with an electrostatic duster, like GH Seal star, Swiffer. Spot-clean stubborn smudges with a pre-moistened wipe designed for electronics. With your microfiber cloth or duster, go over buttons and the back of the TV to nab dust in the vents.
• GH Lab Tip: Plasma screens, while made of glass, have anti-glare coatings that can be damaged by traditional cleaning products. It’s best to follow the same dry methods you’d use for cleaning LED, LCD and OLED TVs.

To keep your television streak-free, you'll want to avoid using pre-treated dusting cloths. They have oily finishes that are great for picking up dust on wood furniture but that can leave deposits on a TV screen.
• What you'll need: A clean microfiber cloth or duster
• How to clean: Wipe the screen first in one direction (horizontally or vertically) then wipe it a second time in the opposite direction to thoroughly cover the entire screen and nab any telltale streaks. Turn the cloth often as it picks up dust.
• GH Lab Tip: Clean the screen with the TV off. It’s easier to see and remove streaks when the screen is black.
How to clean tube televisions

Cleaning glass tube television screens is about as easy as cleaning the mirrors in your home. Read on below for our advice on how to clean your tube TV without ruining it.
• What you'll need: Microfiber cloth, window cleaning spray
• How to clean: Wipe with a microfiber cleaning cloth dampened with a little water or your favorite window cleaning spray. Nudge off any stuck-on bits with your fingernail and buff the screen dry.
• GH Lab Tip: Never (we repeat, never!) spray the screen directly. Doing so could damage the set, as well as any surrounding cabinetry.
How to clean TV speakers
Getty
If the sound coming from the speakers is muffled, it may be time to clean them. Follow the tips below to keep your speaker sound crystal clear.
• What you'll need: Scotch-Brite Lint Roller, vacuum
• How to clean: If the fabric covers on your speakers are removable (check the manual), pop them off and vacuum both sides with the upholstery tool to remove the dust, lint and pet hair that often stick there. If the covers can't be removed, tackle the job from the front with the vacuum or use a lint roller.
• GH Lab Tip: Even a wadded-up old pair of pantyhose can do for de-fuzzing duty. For rigid, screen-like speaker covers, either remove or clean them in place using a well-wrung, damp lint-free microfiber cloth and let dry.
How to clean your remote control
While the cleanliness of the remote won’t affect your cinematic viewing experience, you’ll want to keep it clean so it continues to work with your TV. And cleaning it often minimizes the spread of germs as it is likely one of the most frequently touched items in your household. Here’s what we suggest.
• What you'll need: Disinfecting wipes
• How to clean: First, pop out the batteries and replace the cover on the battery compartment. Lightly tap the remote, button side down, on a table to dislodge any loose crumbs or debris stuck in the crevices. Grab a pre-moistened disinfecting wipe (just think of all the germy fingers your remote has seen!), wring it well so it’s not dripping and use it to clean both sides of the remote. Pay special attention to the buttons and narrow spaces around them. Allow the remote control to air dry, then replace the batteries.
• GH Lab Tip: To get into the tiny crevices, use a toothpick or your fingernail with the wipe to remove any stuck-on goo.
Tips for keeping your TV clean
JovanmandicGetty Images
• Clean your TV weekly to keep dust, film and fingerprints from building up and becoming harder to remove. Make it even easier by keeping a microfiber cloth nearby to nab dust and grime when you see it.
• Never spray anything directly on a television screen, even glass tube televisions. Excess spray can get onto the cabinet and into the inner workings and damage the set.
• Use your vacuum’s soft dusting brush and low suction to remove dust from any vents, ports and cable connections.
• Remember to always follow manufacturer's instructions if under warranty as anything you do that runs contra to it can void your warranty.
• Stay away from products containing ammonia, alcohol or acetone, which can damage the television's screen.

90,000 quickly and efficiently get rid of plaque and blacknessContent
Favorite jewelry you want to wear 24 hours a day and not take off, but silver products begin to darken over time. This can occur under the influence of soaps, skin care products or corny high humidity. Cleaning your silver jewelry at home will save your favorite rings and bracelets and restore them to their original look.
The procedure does not take long, and the number of options is extensive. Silver cleaning fluid can be bought at the store, or you can make it from improvised means. Some of them are already in your home, for others you will have to run to the store. Professional cleaning products cost money, but at the same time, they guarantee an almost 100% result. After that, you only need to take care of the jewelry, preventing the repetition of history.
To remove blackness from 925 sterling silver, it is not necessary to go to a jewelry store, you can use soda, ammonia, peroxide, vinegar and similar products. Citric acid, toothpaste and even Coca-Cola will help clean a silver chain, bracelet, ring or cross!
Cleaning silver with baking soda and foil can be done in a few minutes. This recipe is considered one of the fastest and most effective. First of all, you need to boil water, add soda to it (50 g / 1 liter of water). After boiling, pour the darkened decoration with a solution. Due to the chemical reaction of silver sulfide with baking soda and aluminum, the blackness will disappear after a couple of minutes. After that, the decoration will only need to be wiped dry. This is the most effective silver cleaner. It is important to remember that in no case should you use dry soda, it will only ruin the metal.
Another way to bring your jewelry back to its former glory is to wash silver with ammonia and water. Ammonia is considered an excellent solvent, it will help to better clean silver from plaque or dirt without damaging the product itself.
Pour water into a small container, add ammonia in a ratio of 1 to 10, put the decorations and leave them for 30 minutes. If after half an hour it was not possible to return the shine to silver, you need to hold it longer in the solution. After the procedure, it remains only to wipe the rings, chains or bracelet dry. Cleaning silver with ammonia at home is very simple and fast.
Hydrogen peroxide cleans silver well too, but its use can lead to unexpected results. The fact is that a substance can both oxidize and reduce compounds. In one case, when using peroxide, you will get a brightened product, in the other, a decoration with a touch or stains. It all depends on the amount of impurities in the silver product. You can clean silver from blackness with peroxide with the addition of ammonia, but even in this case you need to act with extreme caution. It is best to test the product on a small area of the product, if it brightens, the procedure can be continued.
If you soak darkened silver items in vinegar, you are unlikely to achieve a good result. Pre-6% vinegar should be warmed up, but you are unlikely to like the smell. If you still decide to wash the old silver, which has turned black, yellowed or oxidized by this folk method, bring the liquid to a temperature of 50 degrees. You can whiten silverware in 15-20 minutes. After the procedure, all items must be thoroughly rinsed and wiped with a dry cloth.
Citric acid will help clean silver effectively. It is diluted with water in a ratio of 100 g / 0.5 l of water. In this solution, you need to boil the jewelry for half an hour, and then rinse them thoroughly with water.
Someone manages to clean silver with toothpowder. This is not the worst way, but very time consuming. You will have to lighten the jewelry manually, armed with a brush. Toothpaste for cleaning silver is fine if you don't have better products on hand. The advantage of this method is that it allows you to very quickly remove dirt and plaque from small products.
Cleaning silver with Coca-Cola is one of the most exotic and radical methods. The drink is considered a good solvent and absorbent. Cola should be boiled and contaminated products should be boiled in it for 5-7 minutes. You can just throw jewelry into a glass of cold cola and leave for a few hours, this method should also work. After that, the silver should be washed with water and wiped.
You can clean silver with GOI paste, but remember that this is a very troublesome and dangerous method. This is a special tool for polishing silver jewelry, you can buy it in specialized stores. GOI paste is applied to a piece of cloth moistened with gasoline (this is done so as not to scratch the surface of the product). Silver is processed very carefully and patiently. It takes a lot of time, but the result is worth the effort.
You can clean silver rings with stones in a jewelry store or at home. You should focus on the density of the stones. Aquamarine, emerald and sapphire can be cleaned with laundry detergent, laundry soap will help remove grease and dirt from malachite, moonstone, opal and turquoise. Silver earrings with ruby or garnet stones should not be immersed in hot water. It is important to clean jewelry with inserts very carefully and carefully: do not damage the insert itself and do not loosen the fasteners. Products with amber, coral or pearls should be washed with lukewarm water and soap. Aggressive cleaning agents can destroy the structure of the stone.
Rhodium is a noble metal of the platinum group, which in some cases is coated on silver jewelry, thereby giving it shine and durability. You can clean rhodium-plated silver at home with special liquids for cleaning jewelry, napkins or a velvet cloth soaked in warm water. Helps to remove impurities from rhodium-plated silver baths with soapy water, the jewelry is dipped in water for several minutes. Someone prefers to wipe such products with cotton swabs dipped in glycerin. If all of the above methods do not help, it is better to take the jewelry to a jewelry workshop. Specialists will restore the rhodium plating by galvanizing.
Blackened silver is rarely found in jewelry stores, but it is full of flea markets and grandmother's chests. A touch of antiquity will give the product nobility, but a touch of dirt and dust - not really. You can clean black silver with baking soda and salt and a cleaning agent, an ordinary school eraser, or ammonia with crushed chalk. There is no guarantee that the product will return to its original shine, but will look much fresher and cleaner.
You can clean gold-plated silver at home using the same means as usual. Most often, a soap solution, hydrogen peroxide, soda, ammonia, toothpaste and even sugar are used for these purposes.
Correctly cleaning tarnished silver at home is easy if the jewelry is not encrusted with stones or other inserts. An improperly selected cleaning agent can destroy the structure of the stone and damage the fixtures. You can rub silver to make it shine like new with a velvet cloth or special napkins, they are usually sold in jewelry workshops. In the same place, the master will help restore the appearance of silver jewelry if it is impossible to do it yourself. With the help of special equipment and clean products, it will take no more than an hour. It is not difficult to polish silver items, but it will be pointless if you do not take care of jewelry in the future.
Silver is loved for its nobility at an affordable price. Products made of this metal can serve their owner for many years, but caring for silver jewelry requires care and patience. Silver is more likely than others to be deformed due to its softness, it is covered with scratches, it can bend and blacken. To keep silver from tarnishing, it should be cleaned regularly. You can do this on your own and with improvised means that are present in the household of each person, or you can take it to the master. The latter option costs money, but you will get your jewelry back safe and sound, like new.
Silver has been known to mankind since ancient times. Coins, cutlery, jewelry and other products are made from it. However, over time the surface of the silver may darken. In this article, we will look at the main ways that will help you remove dark deposits from metal and return it to its original appearance.
All life hacks can be used at home, so if you need to quickly and effectively clean silver - read on.
But first, some important points.
It has long been established that silver tarnishes when it reacts with various elements.
Here are the most common reasons why silver is darker:
To answer this question, three points should be taken into account:
Before you start cleaning silver, remember that using any aggressive products is only appropriate for things that are completely made of silver.
If there are stones or any kind of coating on this or that object, then it is wiser to use sparing products. Cleaning any miniature jewelry is best left to a professional.
Today you can buy a variety of cleaning agents for silver. They can be liquid or pasty.
In the process of cleaning silver, hard brushes or sponges should be avoided so as not to damage the products.
First of all, prepare a soap solution and wash silver items in it to get rid of grease and other impurities.
Then you need to rinse the silver accessories in water and wait until they dry.
Powder must be diluted with water until a thick paste is obtained. With regard to toothpaste, you do not need to prepare anything, the main thing is that it does not have any impurities.
This mass should be applied to a napkin and begin to process silver objects with it. It is very important to move in one direction and in a straight line.
At the end of the whole procedure, it is worth rinsing the metal with clean water and polishing it with a suitable cloth.
The above method cannot be considered delicate, so it should be used for things made of silver that are not of great value.
With soda, you can easily and efficiently clean silver. To do this, dilute soda with water to a mushy state and apply it to silver objects.
After 10-15 minutes, wash off the mass with water and wipe dry with a napkin.
It will be possible to clean silver things more carefully with the help of a soda solution. For this you will need:
Here is another option on how to clean silver from darkening with citric acid.
If the jewelry is not very large and dirty, it is enough to wipe it with a cloth soaked in vinegar. You can also use a 10% citric acid solution.
An interesting fact is that the most common salt is also able to give silver a shining look. To do this, do the following:
Not everyone knows that you can quickly and effectively clean silver with such a simple tool as ammonia.
To do this, wipe the metal surface with a swab soaked in it. If the thing has darkened too much, then in this case it must be placed in a 10% solution of ammonia and left in it for 10-15 minutes.
You can also clean silver in the following ways:
We offer you to get acquainted with some more ways that will allow you to clean your silver at home.
An ordinary ear stick can serve as an alternative to a toothbrush.
Dirt can also be removed by soaking silver items in one of the following solutions:
An interesting fact is that the same methods are well suited for gold-plated objects. Remember that after each procedure, the metal should be thoroughly rinsed with water.
It is curious that you can clean jewelry with lipstick. It is necessary to lubricate the product with it, and then start wiping it with a flannel napkin.
General rules for cleaning silver
In order to properly clean silver, you must follow the general rules below.
Finally, here are the key tips on how to store silver. And although this cannot be a 100% guarantee of the safety of the appearance of silver products, we still strongly recommend that you keep them.
