So, you got those Tire Stickers after all. Good work. Now it’s time to get them onto your tires. Today, we’re going over how to install tire decals so they look their very best.
The first step is knowing whether your have Peel-and-Stick or permanent decals. Each has a different set of installation steps, so make sure you’re following the right steps.

How To Install Peel-And-Stick Tire Stickers

Our Peel-and-Stick tire decals are designed for short-term usage. They’re great if you have a car show coming up or want to spend a weekend at the race track trying to set a new personal best. Here’s how to install them:

  1. Clean the tire sidewall completely using acetone and a rag. Very important to create a direct bond between the decals and your tire.
  2. Be sure to rip off any new tire “stubbies” where your tire decals will go.
  3. Double-check the placement of the decal before sticking it on. Make sure everything lines up and looks great before you do it for real.
  4. Peel off the kraft paper backing from the decal and pop that baby onto the tire.
  5. Press down firmly to make sure that the decal bonds with the tire. PRO TIP: Use your fingertips to firmly trace the individual letters to get the best stick.
  6. Peel off the clear transfer film. Give this step some love. You want to peel it slowly and press down any problem letters that aren’t 100% stuck to the tire.
  7. After the transfer film is off, press down all the letters one last tire, and YOU ARE DONE!

 

How To Install Permanent Tire Stickers

Our permanent tire decals are called permanent for a reason. They last the lifetime of the tire -- perfect for your daily driver. Installation is a little more complex but totally doable. Here’s a walkthrough of the steps:

  1. Clean the tire sidewall completely using acetone. If you’re using a rag, you want to keep cleaning that tire until you no longer pick up oil and dirt on the rag. This is one of the most important steps!
  2. Be sure to rip off any new tire “stubbies” where your tire decal will go. Again, we want that bond to be CLEAN!
  3. Double-check the placement of the decal before sticking it.
  4. Gently clean the back of the decal, then apply the fleXement adhesive included with your order.
  5. Apply the decal to your tire and hold it in place, applying firm, even pressure. PRO TIP: Try doing a few letters at a time for best results.
  6. Allow five minutes for the glue to dry, then peel back the transfer film, checking for letters that need a little touching up.
  7. Apply fleXement to touch up letters that didn’t quite stick, and apply to the edges of all letters to seal them to the tire. Apply even pressure -- and then you’re DONE!

#1 Custom Tire Stickers Online With EASY Installation

Tire lettering is quite popular. In 1922, Firestone launched its balloon tires with a stenciled brand name on the tires, and since then tire lettering grew like wildfire. There are two types of lettering-the sticker (decal) method and the stencil method. Both are used to apply lettering to tires, especially on auto racing cars. We’ve compiled a list of places you can get custom tire stickers, so keep scrolling.

Custom Tire Stickers

A tire sticker enhances the appearance of your car, making it more expensive-looking. It can transform your vehicle into a race car, and it is quite affordable. Unlike the typical decals you see on car windows, tire stickers are made from specialized, cut-out rubber. You can use these stickers on your car or power bike, and you can choose between a temporary or permanent sticker. Custom tire decals are easy to install and some of them come with a kit and a manual. Most online stores have moved away from tire paint pens, stencils, and stickers and have navigated to the more long-lasting solution—custom white letter tires. Raised white tire letter is easy to install and are made from durable rubber composite compound with an adhesive that sticks the letters to the tire. Tire stickers use an adhesive that sticks almost permanently to the tires because they use a different type of adhesive. These adhesives cure which is quite different from the adhesive on a sticker and is similar to custom number decals for motocross.

Making the Decals from Scratch

If you can’t afford to splurge on the kits or stickers from regular sellers, you can make your own tire decals from scratch using the following steps;

  • Measure your tires
  • Design the logo on your software (adobe illustrator)
  • Print out the logo exactly as it is on your tire
  • Get your white rubber sheet and use an X-Acto knife to trace out the letters.
  • Secure each letter on the rubber sheet with a scotch tape
  • Use an X-Acto to cut around the letters to form white rubber sheet letters.
  • Now you should have all your letters on the rubber sheet. Use a black marker to color the edges of the letters.
  • Take all the rubber sheet letters and arrange them the way they’ll be stuck to your tire.
  • Use masking tape on top of all the letters to stick them together.
  • Clean your tire, till it's squeaky clean.
  • By now all your letters should be held together with tape. Use super glue to stick them to the sideline of your tire and put pressure on them for at least 10 seconds. You can also use FleXement Adhesive if super glue is not available.

This sticker is quite easy and should last for a while.

How to Apply Tire Stickers: DIY

Besides showing you how to put stickers on your car earlier, we'll show you here how to do a quick DIY with your tires and apply the stickers on them.

  1. Use acetone to remove any oil and dust from the tire. Dust can hinder the adhesive from sticking properly to the sidewalls of the tire. Cleaning the tire will make sure it adheres for longer. Repeatedly clean the tires until there's no sign of dust or oil on the rag.
  2. Place the face of the raised rubber lettering on the tacky side of the transfer film (clear sticky tape) and apply FleXement Adhesive evenly to the back of each letter. Do not put excessive glue on any of the letters. This will cause oozing and a shortage of glue. One FleXement adhesive is enough for 40-45 letters.
  3. Press your fingertips on the letters, apply this pressure for 40-60 seconds on each letter.
  4. Carefully remove the transfer film (clear sticky tape) without lifting the white lettering.
  5. If there are any lifting edges, reapply the adhesive, and put pressure. Press the letters for 45-60 seconds to allow the glue to set.
  6. Use FleXement to seal the edges of each letter. Once the edges are sealed, leave the decal for a minimum of 1 hour before driving your car, power bike, or truck.

Cleaning, Repair, and Removing


When it comes to cleaning tire stickers, do not use harsh chemicals and products that contain alcohol or chlorine bleach. Do not expose the decals to tire shine or similar chemicals. You can use a whitewall tire cleaner for your tire letterings. Wait till the tires are cool to touch, then use water to clean them. Spray the whitewall on your cleaner and use it to clean the letterings. Leave it on for a few minutes to absorb the dirt and grime. Then scrub off with a bristled brush if necessary. Rinse the tires with water. If the decals are beginning to peel away due to a wrong application, tricky sidewall surfaces, or damage from abrasion, repeat steps 2-4 for re-applying. Decals can last for a long time, especially if they are permanent, but they can also be removable. If you have semi-permanent stickers and you ever want to get rid of them, you can use vice grips/pliers to clamp on a peeled edge and yank it off. You can then proceed to clean off the remaining adhesive with acetone and a light sanding pad (220 or similar). Only clean these stickers when it is completely necessary because you compromise the bond/adhesive every time you clean. The brown stains you see on the top are usually permanent because they come from inside the sticker material all the way to the surface.

    Do you want to choose a tire for your car, but do not understand tire markings well? It's not a problem! In this section, we will help you figure out what tire parameters are, what they mean, and which tire is right for your car.

    195/65 R15 91 T XL

    195 is the tire width in mm.

    65 - Proportionality, i.e. profile height to width ratio. In our case, it is equal to 65%. Simply put, with the same width, the larger this indicator, the higher the tire will be and vice versa. Usually this value is simply called “profile”.

    Since the tire profile is a relative value, it is important to consider when choosing rubber that if you instead of size 195/65 R15, if you want to put tires with a size of 205/65 R15, then not only the width of the tire will increase, but also the height! Which in most cases is unacceptable! (except when both of these sizes are indicated in the car's operating book). You can calculate the exact data on changing the outer dimensions of the wheel in a special tire calculator.

    If this ratio is not specified (for example, 185/R14C), then it is equal to 80-82% and the tire is called full profile. Reinforced tires with this marking are usually used on minibuses and light trucks, where a large maximum wheel load is very important.

    R - means a tire with a radial cord (in fact, almost all tires are made this way now).

    Many mistakenly believe that R- means the radius of the tire, but this is the radial design of the tire. There is also a diagonal design (indicated by the letter D), but recently it has practically not been produced, since its performance is noticeably worse.

    15 - wheel (rim) diameter in inches. (It is the diameter, not the radius! This is also a common mistake). This is the “landing” diameter of the tire on the disk, i.e. is the inside size of the tire or the outside of the rim.

    91 - load index. This is the level of maximum permissible load on one wheel. For passenger cars, it is usually done with a margin and is not a decisive factor when choosing tires (in our case, IN - 91 - 670 kg.). For minibuses and small trucks, this parameter is very important and must be observed.

    Tire load index table:

    T is the tire speed index. The larger it is, the faster you can ride on this tire (in our case, IS - H - up to 210 km / h). Speaking about the tire speed index, I would like to note that with this parameter, the tire manufacturer guarantees the normal operation of the rubber when the car is constantly moving at the specified speed for several hours.

    There are two different US tire labels. The first one is very similar to the European one, only the letters “P” (Passanger - for a passenger car) or “LT” (Light Truck - light truck) are placed before the size. For example: P 195/60 R 14 or LT 235/75 R15. And another tire marking, which is fundamentally different from the European one.

    Example: 31x10.5 R15 (corresponds to European size 265/75 R15)

    31 is the outside diameter of the tire in inches.
    10.5 is tire width in inches.
    R - a tire with a radial design (older tire models were with a diagonal design).
    15 is the inner diameter of the tire in inches.

    Generally speaking, except for inches that are unusual for us, the American tire marking is logical and more understandable, unlike the European one, where the height of the tire profile is not constant and depends on the width of the tire. And here everything is simple with decoding: the first digit of the standard size is the outer diameter, the second is the width, the third is the inner diameter.

    Additional information indicated in the marking on the sidewall of the tire:

    XL or Extra Load is a reinforced tire, the load index of which is 3 units higher than that of conventional tires of the same size. In other words, if a given tire has a load index of 91 marked XL or Extra Load, then this means that with this index, the tire is able to withstand a maximum load of 670 kg instead of 615 kg (see the table of tire load indices).

    M+S or tire marking M&S (Mud + Snow) - mud plus snow and means that the tires are all-season or winter. Many summer tires for SUVs are labeled M&S. However, these tires must not be used in winter, as winter tires have a completely different rubber compound and tread pattern, and the M&S badge indicates good flotation performance.

    All Season or AS all season tires. Aw (Any Weather) - Any weather.

    Pictogram * (snowflake) — rubber is designed for use in harsh winter conditions. If this marking is not on the sidewall of the tire, then this tire is intended for use only in summer conditions.

    Aquatred, Aquacontact, Rain, Water, Aqua or pictogram (umbrella) Special rain tires.

    Outside and Inside ; asymmetric tires, i.e. It is important not to confuse which side is the outside and which is the inside. When installing, the Outside inscription must be on the outside of the car, and Inside on the inside.

    RSC (RunFlat System Component) - RunFlat tires are tires that you can continue to drive at a speed of no more than 80 km / h with a FULL loss of pressure in the tire (due to a puncture or cut). On these tires, depending on the manufacturer's recommendations, you can drive from 50 to 150 km. Different tire manufacturers use different designations for RSC technology. For example: Bridgestone RFT, Continental SSR, Goodyear RunOnFlat, Nokian Run Flat, Michelin ZP etc.

    Rotation or arrow This marking on the tire sidewall indicates a directional tire. When installing the tire, you must strictly observe the direction of rotation of the wheel, indicated by the arrow.

    Tubeless - tubeless tire. In the absence of this inscription, the tire can only be used with a camera. Tube Type - indicates that this tire must be used only with a tube.

    Max Pressure ; maximum allowable tire pressure. Max Load - the maximum allowable load on each wheel of the car, in kg.

    Reinforced or the letters RF in the size (for example 195/70 R15RF) means that this is a reinforced tire (6 layers). The letter C at the end of the size (for example 195/70 R15C) indicates a truck tire (8 layers).

    Radial this marking on the rubber in the standard size means that it is a radial construction tire. Steel means that there is a metal cord in the tire structure.

    Letter E (in a circle) - the tire meets the European requirements of ECE (Economic Commission for Europe). DOT (Department of Transportation - US Department of Transportation) is an American quality standard.

    Temperature A, B, or C Temperature resistance of the tire at high speeds on the test bench (A is best).
