KAWASAKI ATV OVERVIEW - KAWASAKI Brute Force 300

KAWASAKI Brute Force 300 is the most popular ATV in the series. And in 2013, it was named ATV of the Year by ATV Illustrated magazine. There are several reasons for such success: firstly, it is an excellent symbiosis of consumer qualities. Excellent handling, high-torque engine, a wide range of accessories. Secondly, it is an acceptable price compared to competitors. An intriguing bid from KAWASAKI to be a great au pair! We could not pass by and not take a closer look at the novelty of 2018. nine0003

KAWASAKI Brute Force 300 Chassis Features

The ATV is a proven design with a 271cc single cylinder engine. see and rear wheel drive. Torque is transmitted to the drive wheels through a variator, which makes riding a quad intuitive. In addition to smoothing out transmission jerks, the CVT can simulate engine braking, which is useful when descending long slopes. It's nice that the transmission of the KAWASAKI Brute Force 300 is equipped with a reduction gear, even though it is rear-wheel drive. This was done primarily not to overcome off-road, but to tow trailers. The cargo capabilities of this ATV are very impressive, so it makes sense to talk about them separately. nine0003

Otherwise, the transmission is like the "big" ones: there is both a reverse gear and an overdrive.

The torque bar has been shifted to low and medium speeds to compensate for low power and increase engine life. Engine cooling is liquid, like that of the "big brother" - KAWASAKI Brute Force 750i. The chassis looks to be borrowed from more expensive and powerful models: a double wishbone front suspension with five-way adjustable spring preload, a rear suspension with a similar adjustment, connected through the rear swingarm. This balanced design makes the KAWASAKI Brute Force 300 class-leading in terms of ride and handling. nine0003

Continuity throughout

Externally, the ATV is an actual development of the KAWASAKI corporate identity. The design of the predecessor is perfectly balanced and evokes positive emotions. By the way, 2018 ATVs are available in white and black colors.

Without a doubt, the design of the younger model was created with an eye on its predecessors: the same aggressive forms of bumpers made of durable unpainted plastic, the characteristic lighting lines. The features of a purely utilitarian vehicle are striking: massive wings that protect the rider from dirt flying out from under the wheels, a well-thought-out cargo securing system. nine0003

KAWASAKI Brute Force 300 ATV Recipe

It is worth taking a closer look at the combination of all the traction qualities of this ATV, since it is classified as utilitarian. Any luggage can be attached to the above-mentioned gratings: tools, hunting accessories, a supply of fuel in a canister, or even baskets with mushrooms and berries. The front platform is designed for 20 kg of cargo, and the rear one - for 30 kg: this is due to the fact that the front of the ATV is already loaded with engine weight. nine0003

Under the front platform there is a spacious compartment for tools that you may need on the road, such as a pressure gauge and a multitool.

Pictured: ATV front cargo bed with additional storage

It is important to remember that the ATV is designed with a large margin of safety: for this reason, it is very tempting to exceed the allowable payload. According to the passport, the total weight of the rider and cargo should not exceed 164 kg, which is more than enough for everyday use. nine0003

Pictured: 30 kg rear platform

Manufacturers often place containers for storing small items under the seat, but not in our case. KAWASAKI engineers have taken care of the reliability of the quad by placing the air filter housing and fuse box under the saddle. Such an arrangement will protect the vital components and assemblies of the ATV from water and dirt. Another small container is located in the right front fender, its volume is enough for a small set of tools. nine0003

In the photo: a general view of the driver's workplace

Continuing to reveal the topic of utility, let's take a closer look at the stern of the "three hundred". A tow hitch catches the eye, which is not always found in older models. The traction capabilities of the engine allow you to tow a trailer with a gross weight of up to 227 kg. Thus, the mass of a fully loaded “quad train” exceeds 600 kg, which makes us even more serious about the youngest ATV in the family. nine0003

In the photo: socket for mounting the tow ball

With an eye on the elders: KAWASAKI Brute Force 300 brake system

After mentioning such heavy loads, it is worth talking about the KAWASAKI Brute Force 300 brake system. Two brake discs with a diameter of 180 mm each are installed on the front axle, one disc on the rear axle the same size. The lever on the left handle is responsible for activating the rear brakes, and the right lever is responsible for the front brakes. The pedal under the rider's right foot is responsible for rear wheel braking. nine0003

On each side of the steering wheel you will see a gauge with brake fluid indicators. And there are two of them because the braking system consists of two independent reservoirs and two working brake cylinders. In other words, even if you damaged the front or rear brake line on the road, the ability to use the undamaged mechanism will remain in any case. We have already mentioned the ability of the CVT to simulate engine braking, which will also help in a difficult situation.

Pictured: 180 mm front brake disc with single piston caliper

Exclusive to Maxxis

The Brute Force 300 wheels also stand out from the competition with 22" adult wheels and tires designed by Maxxis specifically for KAWASAKI. The tread pattern with a developed lugs system allows you to achieve a balance between handling and patency, and the high profile of the tires will smooth out the unevenness of the road surface. nine0003

Pictured: Maxxis all-round tires and 154mm ground clearance

The dark horse of the Brute Force family

The KAWASAKI Brute Force 300 is driven only on the rear axle, which changes the preference from "directions" to roads with no, but still hard surface. But if you have a need to overcome a section with heavy off-road, the “three hundred” has every chance not to give in to an obstacle. nine0003

You can improve the patency by the most obvious method - reducing the pressure in the tires, since they can easily withstand such exercises. The minimum pressure in the front wheels is 0.32 atm, and in the rear - 0.25 atm. To restore working pressure, you do not have to use a foot pump: the quadric is equipped with a 12 V socket, so it is possible to connect any additional equipment from a compressor to a GPS navigator.

In the photo: the principle location of the 12 V socket on the KAWASAKI Brute Force 300 and KAWASAKI Brute Force 750 ATVs

By the way, the design of the ATV includes the possibility of installing a winch in the front bumper. Its load capacity of 400 kg is more than enough to get the quad out of difficult situations. It is gratifying that you can order the installation of a winch from an official representative: this means that you still have a guarantee for the equipment.

In the photo: one of the options for installing a winch on an ATV

Summing up the off-road qualities of the KAWASAKI Brute Force 300, it is worth mentioning the manual starter system. Anything can happen on the road, including the discharge of the battery. A redundant engine start system will help you get to the place of repair, which will eliminate the "rescue operations" that take so much time and money.

In the photo: the manual starter is located on the left side of the ATV

All the best for children

In addition to the utilitarian, there is one more possible application of the KAWASAKI Brute Force 300: due to simple control and low weight of 243 kg, this square is perfect for a teenager. Simple and intuitive controls, predictable engine will make learning the basics of riding fun and safe. To limit the power, a special adjustment mechanism is provided, which will protect the inexperienced rider. With the growth of experience, you can gradually add agility to the engine in order to proportionally improve the driver's skills. nine0003

In the photo: KAWASAKI Brute Force 300 in the element

Summing up

The result is an entry-level ATV that has an advanced design that is uncommon for competitors. And even if this is not an ultimate solution to a single task, the main feature of the KAWASAKI Brute Force 300 lies precisely in the variety of applications. It will perfectly cope with the performance of various economic tasks - with the transportation of equipment and building materials - due to a well-thought-out luggage securing system and the presence of a tow bar. nine0003

Pictured: KAWASAKI Brute Force 300 utility in action

In a difficult situation, he will take you home thanks to a large number of redundant systems: a manual starter and a reliable brake system. Driving an ATV can, as already mentioned, be entrusted to a teenager without fear thanks to intuitive controls and the ability to limit power output. Even despite the rear drive axle, KAWASAKI Brute Force 300, due to its low weight, high-quality universal rubber and downshift, can easily get through solid jungle. And the built-in winch will completely equalize the chances of the “three hundred” in comparison with all-wheel drive counterparts, because everyone, without exception, “swans” on serious off-road. nine0003

In the photo: KAWASAKI Brute Force 300 off-road

KAWASAKI Brute Force 300 sets a new level of technical equipment for the entire class: in the asset - liquid engine cooling and a full-fledged CVT transmission with reduction series. And the bottom line is a multi-purpose ATV with excellent handling and a reliable assistant in the household.

KAWASAKI KVF, aka Brute Force - 4x4 Club magazine

ATV Club

November 2, 2012

Kawasaki brand in the world of ATV is a little in the world of ATV . Meanwhile, the Brute Force 750, or KVF750 in the European manner, is a very worthy representative of the brand... ATVs of this brand come to us mainly from the United States, and therefore the American name Brute Force (translated as "brute force") is found in advertisements for sold much more often than the European KVF750. nine0003

Since 2008, all versions of this ATV began to be equipped with an injection engine, as indicated by the letter i that appeared in the name. Despite the general visual similarity, the model has undergone enough changes: the clearance and seat height have decreased, the tank volume has become one and a half liters less, and it has gained weight per kilogram. The rest - transmission, engine and brakes - remained unchanged.

AXLES AND SUSPENSIONS
The front and rear suspension arms on the Brute Force are non-injected and run on roller bearings, so they don't last long when not serviced. Lubrication occurs with complete disassembly, and many owners do not reach this point. Well, the wear of ball bearings and steering rods mainly depends on the presence of non-standard rubber: the larger the size of the wheels, the faster they fail. nine0003

With front drives and hub bearings exactly the same story. All of the above is diagnosed quite simply, using the “pull, shake” method, there is nothing complicated about it. With the transmission a little more complicated, you can understand the performance only by driving. The inclusion of the front axle should occur without shock - from the sounds only the characteristic buzz of the electric motor is permissible. By the way, if the bridge does not turn on, this does not always mean a mechanical failure; switching on is performed by an electric actuator, in which the electrical contacts are sour. However, sometimes the actuator itself fails. The inclusion of the front lock (performed by a mechanical lever on the left handlebar) should occur without sounds, a small jerk can only speak of too sharp inclusion. The rear axle gearbox needs to be checked for elevated temperatures. It should never be hot! If it still burns with heat, then it is necessary to check the operation of the rear brake, since the pads are installed in the oil bath of the bridge. There can be two reasons: either the pads are wedged due to incorrect adjustment, or the wrong oil is poured into the bridge. nine0003

Rear axle lubrication is not so easy. Conventional gear oil is not suitable, Mobil Fluid 424 should be used, specially formulated for smooth operation of wet brakes and power take-off systems. Yes, and replacing the rear pads is a very difficult task and requires partial disassembly of the bridge.

ENGINE AND TRANSMISSION
The variator belt will last a long time with smooth use. The engine braking system implemented by the actuator helps him in this. Belt wear is signaled by the Belt lamp on the dashboard (if a clatter is heard from under the variator cover, this also indicates wear, and the lamp may not light up). If it blinks, it means that the strap is over, while the motor is running in emergency mode and does not develop more than two and a half thousand, however, allowing you to smoothly drive home. When replacing the belt, it is necessary to reset the error that has settled in the memory of the electronic unit. This operation is very simple and even beginners can do it: under the seat there is a special electrical connector in which you need to close the contacts. nine0003

750cc V-Twin is reliable. It is unpretentious and durable, especially if the oil and filter were changed in it on time. Unfortunately, Kawasaki didn’t even have hydraulic lifters on the latest models, because the clattering sounds are a “gone” valve clearance. But checking the valve clearance is a simple job, however, requiring at least minimal knowledge on the topic. Otherwise, if it doesn’t knock, then most likely everything is fine with it, and it will last a long time to the delight of the owner.

The cooling system is equipped with an expansion tank, but the presence of antifreeze in it does not mean that the system is complete. You can check the real level only by opening the radiator cap located behind the plastic cheek on the left side. nine0003

Fuel injection basically works flawlessly (at idle smoothly, when revving without dips), a malfunction is indicated by the F1 indicator on the dashboard. This indicator does not mean a specific error, it only notifies you of electrical problems. Specific fault codes are read through a connector under the seat. There is also a fuse and relay box. Souring of the connectors in the block is a frequent occurrence, it is manifested by the flashing of the same F1 lamp and sometimes the cooling fan does not turn on. nine0003

A separate story with the charging relay, which is located under the rear right wheel and, as a rule, is always wet and dirty (it is installed in such a place for the best cooling). Corrosion of the connector is the first reason for the loss of charging. There is no separate charge indicator on the dashboard. So cleaning the connectors is sometimes very useful, even if everything is fine with the battery charging.

Maintenance on such a machine is easy. The air filter here is washable, oil is easily accessible. The only caveat is the fuel filter: it is installed in the fuel pump, and if it becomes clogged, you will have to change the entire assembly. nine0003

Well, if all of the above is not observed in the chosen one you like, then you are lucky: you have found a really worthwhile device - sit down and ride, enjoy to the fullest.

Alexander, Kawasaki Brute Force 750i 4x4, year 2009:
– This Brute Force 750i came to me, one might say, by accident - a friend advised me. This is what usually happens in our community. Frankly, I didn’t even look at Kawasaki, and even more so I didn’t think that I would ever buy an ATV of this brand. It's not that I don't like her, no: I quite respect her as a manufacturer of motorcycles and aquabikes. It’s just that its quadrics are not very common with us, and spare parts cannot be called cheap. Although the Chinese still make few fakes for them. But I trusted my friend, and I don’t regret the step I took three years ago! The realization of what I bought then came gradually. The machine turned out to be very frisky, its "single-format" peers often stayed behind. nine0002 I was very surprised that this “kava” has good cross-country ability even on standard wheels. I see a big plus in the fact that you can turn on the lock right while floundering in the mud, and not after you get stuck. But the steering took a long time to get used to. It is too sharp: a little gape - and there are great chances to bury the wheels in the sky. But I also tried to make this disadvantage a plus: I began to drive more calmly.

The rear trunk without a side, and a large trunk fit on it like a native.
