Bombardier Recreational Products (BRP), once the powersports subsidiary of Canada’s Bombardier, Inc., was founded in 1942 in Valcourt, Quebec by the man whom many call the “Father of the Snowmobile”, Joseph-Armand Bombardier. Two decades prior to the foundation of BRP, Joseph-Armand Bombardier had experimented with a propeller-driven snow vehicle that was heavily influenced by the Russian aerosanis. After Bombardier had established themselves with their popular series of snowmobiles, the company ventured into the world of off-road racing in the 1970s with their Can-Am brand of motocross racing motorcycles. Despite the on-track success of the Can-Am racing motorcycles, the brand was shut down in 1987. Ten years later, BRP used their knowledge and experiences from off-road racing to develop their first ATV prototype called the Traxter. The Traxter was a revolutionary machine for Bombardier Recreational Products and it helped the company earn ATV Of the Year honors in 1998. BRP rode on the success of the Traxter for a few more years until the debut of their first sport ATV, the DS650, in 2001. Soon, the Traxter and the DS 650 were joined by the DS 50, DS 650 Baja, DS 90, Quest 500 4X4, and the Quest 650 and Quest 650 XT. In 2006, the model that is, perhaps, the most important to BRP’s history was created: the Outlander 800. The Outlander 800 took home numerous accolades and prestigious off-road racing victories for Bombardier, including the death-defying Dakar Rally and the GNCC Racing Series Championship in October 2006. In recognition of the Outlander 800’s racing victories, BRP’s ATV division renamed themselves as Can-Am and Can-Am ATVs sit among world’s top 10 leading manufacturers and most popular brands with riders and off-road motorsport enthusiasts.

Cars with front-wheel drive, rear-wheel drive with IRS (independent rear suspension) setups, or all-wheel drive and trucks and SUVs with similar driveline and suspension configurations use CV joints (constant-velocity joints) to transmit power to the wheels. ATVs also use CV joints but unlike regular cars and trucks, ATVs can be more susceptible to CV boot damage depending on how they are used and where they are ridden. If a CV boot is split, cut, punctured, ripped or rotten, the CV joint itself will wear out at an increased rate. Always inspect your ATV CV boots as part of every maintenance service and after every off-road ride. Race Driven CV boots are made to meet or exceed OEM and other aftermarket specifications and use high-quality rubber for extended life. Browse our online inventory and find Race Driven ATV CV boots for popular Bombardier models such as the Bombardier Outlander 400, Bombardier Quest 500, and other famous ATV models from Honda, Polaris, Yamaha and others.

Maintenance

Regular maintenance will keep your ATV running safely and for a long time. Control, lubrication, cleaning, adjustment and replacement of parts are carried out according to the regulations or as needed. Without the appropriate knowledge and qualifications, these procedures are best carried out at official CFMOTO service centers.

First check the oil level and quality in the engine, gearbox, front and rear gears. Then proceed to other procedures:

  • Oil filter replacement;
  • Coolant level check and replacement;
  • Checking the condition of the anthers of the CV joints;
  • Check spark plugs;
  • Air filter cleaning;
  • Removing and cleaning the spark arrester;
  • CVT cleaning;
  • Throttle test;
  • Valve clearance adjustment for intake and exhaust valves;
  • Adjustment of the free and total stroke of the throttle trigger;
  • Checking the front and rear brake pads;
  • Check and change brake fluid;
  • Front brake lever free play adjustment;
  • Adjustment of the brake pedal, brake light switch;
  • Checking the condition of the wheel bearings;
  • Servicing the anti-roll bar;
  • Battery maintenance, fuse replacement;
  • Adjustment and replacement of headlight bulbs;
  • Spring pretensioner, rebound and compression adjustment;
  • Cable lubrication.

Maintenance and storage

ATV care includes:

  • Washing, polishing, cleaning;
  • Adding a stabilizer to the fuel;
  • Lubrication of the internal parts of the engine;
  • Removing and preparing the battery for storage;
  • Installing plugs;
  • Coolant density test;
  • CVT pulley preparation.

Store the ATV in a cool, dry place, covered with an opaque tarp or cover.

Recommended oils

For the engine - semi-synthetic oils CFMOTO G-MOTION 10W40 4T and 5W40 4T with a temperature range of application from -30 to +40.

For the gearbox, front and rear gearboxes - Gazpromneft 80W-90 GL-5 transmission oil.

G-MOTION engine oils are specially designed for maximum damping of loads on 4-stroke engines of CFMOTO ATVs, have an increased reserve of protective properties that allow for uninterrupted operation of the engine in all operating modes, including extreme ones, and increase the service life of equipment. The oil consists of high-quality base components and additives with an optimal chemical composition. Their use guarantees the maximum service life of the CFMOTO ATV.

Automotive ATV oils are not suitable. The use of fuels and lubricants that do not comply with the manufacturer's recommendations can disable the equipment with serious consequences for the budget.

Safety Instructions

Be trained and instructed before using the ATV. Persons under 16 years of age are not allowed to drive. It is forbidden to operate an ATV without protective equipment - a helmet, eye protection, gloves, boots, long sleeves and trousers. You cannot operate machinery while intoxicated.

Check the ATV for proper operation before using it. Hands should always be on the handlebars and feet on the footrests. Do not drive the ATV too fast - speed should be appropriate for the terrain, visibility and riding experience.

Do not walk on the ice of a frozen body of water. Do not cross water obstacles, the depth of which is higher than the level of the footrests of the ATV - this can damage the equipment. Carry passengers in seats and never in the trunk.

Take extra care when driving in unfamiliar terrain. Also, be extremely careful when reversing, slipping, overcoming obstacles.

Use only tires designed for your model and maintain the recommended pressure. Tuning the ATV only with branded accessories.

In the event of serious malfunctions, we recommend that you contact your nearest CFMOTO Service Center.
