ATV maintenance is an important point that deserves special attention. But any technique is subject to such a process as wear and tear and repair is required over time. Any vehicle needs to be looked after, timely maintenance of key elements, replacement of consumables, worn out spare parts. It is important not only to do everything right, but also on time.
Each vehicle has a technical instruction manual, a service book. And they clearly and in detail describe what needs to be done and when. Reading such "documents" should not be neglected.
Most manufacturers recommend that the ATV be serviced after 2500 km or once a year or after 160 hours of operation. The list of obligatory maintenance works includes the following actions:
Electrical equipment
Check the operation of the bulbs. Visual inspection of electrical wiring for deformation, breakage or oxidation. If necessary, change the bulbs and replace the wires that have undergone deformation.
The battery must also be removed and serviced. Using a load plug, check the voltage with and without load. Check electrolyte density. Add to it, if necessary, distilled water and put the battery on charge.
Brakes
If the thickness is less than 2 mm, then you need to replace them because the production of more than 70% and most likely you may not have enough reserve for the next season. And you will have to change the pads at the height of the quad season. Replacing the brake pads on most quad bikes is fairly easy with some skill and skill. This will require a set of tools a couple of hours of time and the pads themselves.
Oil change
Oil change thresholds in ATVs vary from 1000 km to 4000 km. Here, apparently, it depends on how one relates to their technique. Most manufacturers have a recommended mileage between replacements of 2000-2500 km. So it is written in the service books of CF Moto, BRP, Stels, Yamaha.
Changing the oil is easy. We unscrew the drain plug, putting in front of it some kind of container to collect the used oil. As soon as all the oil drains, we twist the drain plug, wind the new oil filter and fill in fresh oil. In the amount that is written in the service book. Usually it is no more than 3 liters.
In gearboxes, the following oil volume is rear 250 ml, front 150 ml.
It will also not be superfluous to change the coolant and brake fluid. Well, or at least add these fluids to the required level.
Syringed
To do this, you need a special lubricant for squirting (although some use lithol for this purpose) and a gun again made specifically for this. Usually the oiler on the quad is from 8 to 17.
Storage
ATVs are usually not used in winter. This means that it becomes necessary to properly carry out maintenance in order to prepare your vehicle for long-term storage. First, before storage, you need to remove the battery. It must be stored at room temperature. Do not leave it on a cold floor, stone or cement. Secondly, you need to protect the ATV itself from dust, dirt, and foreign particles. Option two. Either
garage storage or special cover.
Another important maintenance point that is directly related to storage: the gas tank must be completely drained. And you don't just need to drain the gas. After draining, it is necessary to start the engine for a short time in order to completely exhaust the fuel remaining in the carburetor. It is necessary to treat the suspension and brakes with a special spray called a dispersant. In the cold season, the road is often treated with all kinds of chemicals to make it less slippery and dangerous. You need to protect your ATV from this chemistry. This advice is especially important for those who do not refuse fishing and hunting trips on an ATV in the winter.
Naturally, for the normal operation of the vehicle, it must be kept clean. Lubricate parts during maintenance only after thorough cleaning. All surfaces and all moving parts must be carefully removed from dirt and dust. You need to carefully inspect all parts, especially small ones, when carrying out scheduled or unscheduled maintenance of ATVs.
Having done the right maintenance of your ATV, you can be sure that it will not let you down and will serve you faithfully for more than one season.

Modern cars are equipped with electronic control for monitoring and self-diagnosis of the power unit (ECM). This allows the driver to learn about the problems that arise in the operation of the motor in a timely manner and take action. This is indicated by the check light on the car panel with the image of the engine. With the advent of this indication, it is necessary to find a reliable car service to perform engine diagnostics. This is due to the fact that the self-diagnosis system, having determined that the engine is not working correctly, sends an error code to the on-board computer, which can be decrypted by connecting special diagnostic equipment to the electronic control.
Some modern cars, when the check is on, independently decode the error code and inform the driver about the problem without the help of car service specialists. But in most cases, this function is not available, and the driver has to contact the service in order to understand what measures need to be taken in relation to the power unit and its secondary systems or try to fix everything on their own. But first you need to figure out why the check engine lights up, since this indication can work in very unusual situations. There are many complaints on the forums on the Internet that the check periodically lights up regardless of the engine temperature, when filling fuel of dubious quality, and even after its banal washing. This begs the question: so what is a check in a car and what exactly does it mean.
All sections of the engine and its auxiliary systems work in sync, and the deviation of one of the systems from the required parameters affects the operation of others. In this case, the motor can operate in the same mode, and the driver will not notice any deterioration until other systems also begin to deviate from the parameters. Therefore, if the ECM detects a change in parameters, the engine icon on the control panel is lit. This does not mean at all that the situation is critical, since this indication is the first signal designed to prevent serious problems. But you should not operate the car for a long time if you do not know why the check may be burning. It is worth mentioning right away that this indication is always active when the ignition is turned on. Many do not know this and are wary, believing that the self-diagnosis system identifies problems that arise during startup. But in fact, this is just a signal to the driver that the self-diagnosis system is working properly, and therefore, if the check engine light is on in a running car, then this is normal. After starting, this alarm lamp will turn off.
Let's consider in detail what a check is in a car and what it means. As mentioned above, the ECM monitors almost all engine systems, and therefore there can be many reasons for the appearance of this indication. When the check engine light found its way into cars, it was designed as a simple indicator to indicate problems with the engine. This is due to the primitiveness of the self-diagnosis system at that time. In modern cars, the ECM is able to fix problems associated not only with the engine, but also with the ignition or fuel system. Let's consider each of them separately.
Fuel quality
As a rule, if the check light comes on after visiting the gas station, then the problem should be looked for in the fuel. An experienced driver is able to understand this himself, evaluating the decrease in engine power, and after a long operation of the car, fix that fuel consumption has increased. This is due to a mismatch in the octane number in the fuel. The self-diagnosis system detects detonation in the combustion chambers and other violations of the combustion of the combustible mixture. Further, after the discovery of these violations, everything happens like this: a signal about them went to the electronic control unit - that's the engine icon on fire.
The problem will disappear if you change the fuel or at your own risk, wait until it is completely used up and refuel with quality fuel. In some cases, flushing the fuel system is even recommended, as the indication may not go away after changing the fuel. However, you can do without this if you reset the check engine error. This requires a diagnostic device, which is available only in a car service, or an independent reset, which consists in a certain sequence of actions.
Engine overheating
If the check engine is constantly flashing during operation of the power unit, then you should look at the temperature sensor readings. If it is above 90 °C, then the indication works due to engine overheating. To resolve this issue, the cooling system needs to be serviced. In particular, check it for leaks and add antifreeze if its level has dropped. If after that the engine light is still on, you need to check the operation of the thermostat and pump. In the first case, a breakdown prevents the antifreeze from circulating a full circle and the engine overheats. In the second case, the circulation of the coolant is disrupted due to a breakdown of the pump or its unstable operation. When the engine temperature becomes optimal, the alarm lamp will turn off.
Low oil level
Another option for what to do if the check engine light is on is to check the oil level. ECM capabilities even allow you to determine the critical oil level and send the appropriate signal to the ECU. This feature is very convenient for those who rarely check the lubrication level. Thus, if everything is stable with temperature and power, but check engine is on, what does this mean? It's simple - the power unit has a low level of lubrication. To correct the error, the lubricant must be replenished.
Mechanical damage
If the check light in the car lights up at the same time as an extraneous knock in the engine, then this is a serious problem that requires diagnostics and repair in a car service center. With this combination, it is recommended to stop independent movement and call a tow truck. A problem may arise due to the destruction of the motor components due to wear or an increase in the gaps between them more than the maximum allowable. If after service in a car service the check engine light is still on, then the specialists will reset this error.
Engine Trouble
Another problem when the check engine light comes on is the engine trip. This occurs due to malfunctions associated with the ignition system or incorrect fuel supply. In the first case, it is necessary to check the high-voltage coil, the integrity of the wires and inspect the candles. Fuel problems are when fuel is not supplied to the cylinder correctly or not at all. The self-diagnosis system monitors these symptoms and sends an error code to the ECU. That's why the check engine light is on when the engine is running.
It surprises many that the check is on in a car with a still cold engine. But, as mentioned above, the self-diagnosis system starts working with the engine starting. Although monitoring of some systems is possible only when the power unit reaches the optimum temperature, the ECM can detect violations even in a cold engine. Let's consider them in detail:
Do not forget that self-diagnosis is an independent system. Therefore, it may also not work correctly due to the breakdown of some of its components. In particular, if one of the sensors of the system fails, check in the car will light up. To check the correct operation of the engine self-diagnosis, diagnostics are required using special devices in a car service.
It is not always necessary to contact a car service to perform a reset. Only in cases where it is impossible to eliminate the violation on your own. If the cause is eliminated and the engine error is still on, to remove it, do the following:
After this sequence of actions, you can start the engine to make sure that the check is not lit. But this is provided that the violations have been eliminated, and the incorrectly functioning systems again function according to the required parameters.
Unfortunately, this method does not always help when the check light is on, the reasons are that it is of a different nature. The most reliable way to remove the error is through software intervention. For this, cars manufactured since 2000 have a special OBD2 connector for connecting diagnostic equipment. This connector can be located under the steering column, near the pedal assembly or in other areas around the steering wheel, depending on the model of the car. The connector is standard, and therefore the same on all cars, but the diagnostic equipment is different. Therefore, you may need a special adapter to synchronize diagnostic tools to the OBD2 connector. After a software reset, the check engine light will turn off.
Above we analyzed what a check engine is and determined the reasons why this indication starts to work. It is important to remember that the operation of the indication coincides with the incorrect behavior of the motor, which can often be felt even without diagnostic devices. By comparing changes in the operation of the power unit with the check engine indication, you can independently determine where to look for malfunctions: cooling system, oil level, fuel supply or ignition problems.
It should also be said about the vulnerability of not only the self-diagnosis system. The ECU may also not work correctly, making errors when receiving information about the state of the motor. Therefore, it can also be the reason that the check engine caught fire. Only specialists can deal with such a problem, because the reason for the poor functioning of the computer can be associated with both equipment damage and software firmware.
To avoid this indication after the engine has been started, the cooling system should be monitored regularly and the oil level should not be allowed to drop. Also, do not allow contamination of spark plugs, do not allow yourself to save on fuel quality. Attempts to save on consumables often result in serious technical problems for the car, and the check engine warning light will always remind you of this, annoying the driver.
