The most important factor in any jack stand is its rated weight capacity, which should never be exceeded by the user. The stands are often rated as a set in a value of tons. As a rule, jacks require almost no maintenance. However, regular cleaning and inspection make a significant contribution to durability and safety.
Particular attention should be paid to the moving parts and rollers of trolley jacks and all types of hydraulic jacks.

1 - Filling hydraulic oil: Without sufficient hydraulic oil, the jack will not reach its maximum lifting height. In the worst case, air in the system can even lead to dangerous situations. Therefore, the oil level in the hydraulic cylinder at the oil filler plug must be checked regularly.
If there is too little (or even too much) oil in the cylinder, the quantity must be corrected according to the manufacturer's instructions.
2 - The right hydraulic oil: Everyone knows that different oils have different properties. Therefore, high quality hydraulic oil is essential for jacks. Under no circumstances should brake fluids, engine oils or fluids that attack seals and pipes be used.
3 - Bleeding the lift cylinder: If lifting is difficult, bleeding the cylinder can restore lift capacity. The cylinder must be regularly ventilated, especially if the jack is not always upright on the floor or is being transported.
4 - Cleanliness in the hydraulic system: Dirt in the hydraulic system leads to problems with finely adjusted valves, especially when lowering the jack. Emptying the hydraulic system, flushing and purging the system usually makes it easy to correct such problems.
5 - Maintenance and lubrication: trolley jacks have many moving parts such as wheels, lift arm or various pivots on the drawbar. All moving parts must be cleaned and lubricated regularly to ensure smooth operation and wear protection. Parts with grease nipples must always be lubricated with a grease gun.
6 - Storage: jacks are often exposed to the most severe conditions, especially when used outdoors or during roadside assistance. Rain, dirt, dust and even salt in winter can quickly limit wear and functionality or even lead to breakage. Therefore, the jack must be regularly cleaned from coarse or aggressive dirt.
During storage, pressure must be completely relieved and the jack stored in the intended (vertical) position to avoid air bubbles in the hydraulic system. Regular maintenance and care of carts and jacks is simple and does not require any special knowledge. If it is necessary to dismantle the hydraulic unit or replace bearing parts, it is recommended to consult a specialist workshop or service center.
