Cross country or hare scrambles races are off-road competition events. Unlike an enduro, all riders in a single class start on the same row, and the event is an all-out race to the finish. They are conducted on several-mile-long marked courses through woods or desert and over rugged natural terrain. The racers keep doing laps on the course until the leader either completes a pre-determined number of laps or has raced for a pre-determined amount of time, usually two hours. Competitive riders not only need to be fast but also physically fit enough to maintain a race pace for hours.
Cross country or hare scrambles races can include tight woods, big hills, and field sections. Although similar in terrain, in general, they are more open than a typical enduro.
Grand Prix races are a variation on the cross country format. Popular in the Midwest, they are usually shorter, more open and faster than cross country races or hare scrambles. Most grand Prix races run for 45 minutes and run different sessions for similar classes. This allows riders to compete in multiple classes, unlike cross country events, where all classes run simultaneously.
The country’s top cross country championship is the AMA-sanctioned Grand National Cross Country, or GNCC, series. GNCCs are major events, with broad support from the motorcycle industry, fans, and racers. They attract not only top local talent, but the fastest off-road racers in the country. The courses are challenging, fast and fun, while the events themselves are known for the exceptional organizations that keep riders coming back year after year.
Riders who win their class in the GNCC series win an AMA National No. 1 plate, with the top riders earning the right to call themselves the fastest cross country racers in America.

The AMA West and East Region Hare Scrambles Championship Series crown the best cross country racers in each half of the country. Each series features the best hare scrambles courses in its region. The AMA West Hare Scrambles Championship Series is promoted by the AMA’s organizational partner, the National Hare and Hound Association. The AMA East Hare Scrambles Championship Series is managed internally by the AMA with individual events run by local promoters.

The Western New York Off-Road Association Championship is a 2018 AMA Featured Series. The WNYOA won the 2017 AMA ATV Promoter of the Year award and is known for its professionally organized events and stacked competition. The WNYOA series features bikes, ATV’s and Youth classes in some of the best racing in the Northeast Region. The series is also co-sanctioned with two rounds of the AMA Grand National Cross Country Series and two AMA East Hare Scramble rounds: nyoa.net.
The Mid East Racing series is a 2018 AMA Featured Series. Its two-day event format feature hare scrambles varying from one to three hours in length at venues in the Carolinas. Its events feature classes for bikes, ATVs, and youth: www.mideastracing.com.
The Virginia Cross Country Series is a 2018 AMA Featured Series.
Having grown to eight rounds for the 2018 season, the series holds events at venues in Virginia and North Carolina for off-road competitors of all skill levels. Hare Scramble RulesAMA-sanctioned events run according to the rules developed and written by AMA Congress, the rules-making body of the AMA composed of AMA organizers.
The AMA Amateur Competition Rulebook is for the exclusive use of AMA-chartered clubs and promoters running AMA-sanctioned events. The rulebook applies to all AMA-sanctioned competition. Supplemental regulations are additions to the rulebook based on the needs of a specific series. All supplemental regulations are approved by the AMA.

Youth Series are age based and listed here. Adult Series are Skill based with age groups listed here
What class should I ride ? The classes are by age or skill. Ask at sign up or Scoring if your first time every racing, normally the C or beginner class is for you when starting out.
If you happen to ride or Race another series or are ranked in a series such as Enduros, GP, Hare Scrambles, etc then you must ride the same Skill level with us. A or Expert riders A Class, Pro rides AA, B Riders Ride B etc etc. If you Ride MX or ATV non PRO then you can drop one class in offroad.
How Much Does it Cost at my first event ? The best way to answer will be to list all required memberships and fees. then you can do some fast math.
Adult Series are $40-50, Pro/AA can be $50 + at special events.SEE our Numbers Registrations Pages Here you can decide on your number and/or Associate Fee prior to arriving at event.
How do the Yearly Numbers work ? We assign numbers through our Yearly Number registration system. Starting in December til the first event, you can get your number application on-line, you can download and mail one in anytime during the season or get one at the first event. The Advantage to getting a number early is to keep a favorite number or request a number. Only Yearly numbers can be requested. The Early Process has a Deadline of February 1st to renew a prior season number. After Feb 1 any number not taken is up for grabs, Requests through the system are honored first by your postmark/payment date.

Are my points tracked if I am not a club member ? Yes, everyone gets points in their respective classes, the only catch is you need to ride 50% of scheduled events by years end and have finished in points paying positions to be listed. At the End of the season we take the results and apply the final Club Membership roster with Associates to the events and drop non club members. This is for ECEA Banquet Awards. The Actual race results and points remain unaltered online.
Can I ride more than one class ? NO not for Adult Series.
Can I Pre enter a Hare Scramble? YES, the links are on the Home Page, most events will be set up.
How early can I arrive at venue? Since all events are by different promoters or clubs you should check with them contact info is on flyers. Generally limited access is Friday night and Early Saturday morning is the norm. Sunday events you should arrive by 8am for C event and by 11:30 for the main.
Is there practice or pre riding? NO, you can not pre ride any section of the course, the only exception is if a MX track is used, there may be MX Practice. DQ will result to anyone who pre rider, you can walk the course or bicycle it.
Can you Ghost Rider or just ride a different class ? NO, we do not allow ghost riding another class in any event. You ride your normal class. Adults and qualified youth can ride Sportsmen in the Morning C event, in the Sportsmen class your normal class or skill does not matter, WE DO WARN AA, A riders that choose to ride Sportsmen, PLEASE use discretion as this event is to be considered a fun ride or training. Aggressive or dangerous riding will not be tolerated.
Can you switch bikes due to a break down to get seat time ? NO, the rider must finish the event on the bike he started on. You can not switch bikes for any reason. The rider will face a DQ and possibly event void.
Can a rider test ride an upper level class ? Not Per AMA or ECEA Rules. You move up, You just advanced yourself. NO EXCEPTIONS.
If I Return to racing after a few years off can I move back a class? NO, you must return to the class you once road, if you are then no longer competitive of feel safe riding in that class. You can Appeal to the AMA, forms are on ECEA and AMA site.
