FIRESTONE HAS BEEN THE NATION'S LEADING TIRE PROVIDER FOR MORE THAN A CENTURY.

FLAT TIRE REPAIR, TIRE PATCHES, AND MORE

It's a tough road out there, and your tires bear the brunt of potholes, broken glass, nails, screws, and anything else that can puncture a tire. Firestone Complete Auto Care's flat tire repair services are the best in the business. We've been repairing tires since 1926, and we take pride in repairing America's tires. When tire damage strikes, come to Firestone Complete Auto Care–the tire repair shop you can trust.

If you suspect something is wrong with your vehicle's tires, don't hesitate to come into a Firestone Complete Auto Care near you. If your Tire Pressure Monitoring System (TPMS) light is on, you've hit something on the road, your tire is losing air, or maybe something just doesn't feel quite right, bring it in. One of our expert technicians will take a look and tell you if you need to repair or replace your tires.

Driving on a damaged tire can lead to additional (and more costly) rim damage and repairs, so it's best to have your tires examined at the first sign of trouble. The solution might be as simple as needing one of our patch plugs if the tire puncture is addressed early on. In other cases, a leaking valve stem or valve core may need to be replaced with a new one or the TPMS sensor needs to be reprogrammed or replaced. Visit your nearest Firestone Complete Auto Care, and we'll take care of you and your vehicle tire repairs.

Tire Repair & Patching/Plug

Tire Repair & Patching/Plug

If your tires still have life left in their tread and are not over 10 years old, Firestone Complete Auto Care maybe be able repair or patch & plug them to get you back on the road quickly. Keep in mind not all tire damage can be patched if the puncture is too big.

Tire Replacement

Tire Replacement

Over time, the tread on your tires wears down, leading to compromised traction on the road and potentially dangerous driving conditions. Tires generally need to be replaced every 25,000 to 50,000 miles, depending on vehicle manufacturer recommendations and driving habits.

Tire Rotations & Balancing

Tire Rotations & Balancing

When you have your tires rotated, you help increase the life of your tires by helping reduce uneven wear. Most vehicle manufacturers recommend a tire rotation about every 5,000 miles or at the manufacturer-recommended mileage. Tire balancing helps ensure weight is evenly distributed around your tires. It's necessary about every 5,000 miles or as recommended by your manufacturer. Balancing can lead to a smoother ride, less tire wear, and reduced strain on the drivetrain. When you think tire balancing, think safe, smooth, and efficient driving.

Wheel Alignments

Wheel Alignments

It's best to have your alignment checked every 6,000 miles or twice a year. Even one misaligned wheel can cause the steering wheel to be off center and can lead to premature wear and tear on your vehicle over time. Keeping everything properly aligned ensures a smoother ride for you and a longer life for your tires.

Flat Repair

Flat Repair

A flat or leaking tire can leave you stranded on the side of the road or lead to a situation where you lose control while driving. Take care of flat or leaking tires as early as possible to extend tire lifespan and ensure your tire doesn't leave you stranded.

Flat tires rarely happen at ideal times. Let Firestone Complete Auto Care help you with these answers to frequently asked flat tire questions.

Should I Change a Flat Tire Before Coming In for Tire Repair?

To ensure a safe drive that doesn’t damage your rims or create more expensive repairs, change your flat tire with your spare tire before coming into your local Firestone Complete Auto Care center for flat tire repair.

What If I Replace Just One Tire?

It’s tempting to replace just the tire that's damaged, but replacing one tire at a time can present challenges down the road since the one tire will have a different tread depth and thus different accelerating, braking, and cornering abilities than all of the others.

Why Do I Keep Getting Flat Tires?

Few things are more inconvenient than a flat tire —except back-to-back flat tires. Learn the reasons why you keep getting flat tires and what you can do to help prevent flat tires from deflating your spirits!

What Is Pothole Damage?

If your vehicle hits a pothole in the road, you may experience steering and suspension system misalignment and/or damage, tire punctures, bent rims, and more. When your vehicle experiences a sudden jolt from a pothole run-in, timely inspection is highly recommended.

Pothole damage may not be obvious right away, but it can wreak havoc on your entire car if it’s not addressed quickly and fixed right the first time. If you've had a recent run-in with a pothole, head to your local Firestone Complete Auto Care for a Complete Vehicle Inspection to check for any issues.

What Is a Tire Plug vs a Tire Patch?

A tire plug is a quick fix for a tire that's leaking air from a nail or similar object that has punctured the tire. A tire plug fills the hole of the tire but is not reliable without a tire patch and not recommended to use alone. A patch is applied to the inside of the tire to further prevent an air leak and helps hold the plug in place. This allows a tire with ample useful life left in it to hold air reliably and keep you on the road for longer.

Can You Repair a Run Flat Tire?

Run flat tires allow you to drive on a flat tire for a limited time with lesser risk than non-run flat tires. A Run Flat tire could be repaired if a nail or object is caught before tire damage occurs. However, if the tire is permanently damaged, it is required to replace a Run Flat tire with a new one.

Why Is My TPMS Light On?

The Tire Pressure Monitoring System light will illuminate if tire pressure is too low or part of the TPMS system has malfunctioned. Important TPMS warning light behavior:

  • Solid — A solid indicator light means one or more tires is operating at an unsafe pressure. Tire air pressure has dropped below the 25% OEM recommendation placard pressure. The recommended tire pressure is most commonly listed on a sticker inside the driver's door. If there's no sticker on the door, you can usually find the specs in the owner's manual.
  • Blinking — A blinking indicator light means the TPMS has malfunctioned. One or more sensors may have failed or lost communication with the vehicle's onboard diagnostics.

How to tell a good tire fitter from a layman

  • In order not to screw up the wheel: how to distinguish a good tire fitter from a layman

Author: Mikhail Balandin

We all love to have our cars serviced by competent specialists, and not by gloomy goblins with the smell of fumes from their unshaven faces. And it would be nothing if these goblins worked well ... No, usually their hands also grow out of the wrong place. And it happens even worse: outwardly - a person is like a person, and the results of the work are so-so. It is clear that you can find, for example, a good minder for your car, at least based on reviews. But how to understand that the tire service, where you come at best three or four times a year, is actually not very good, and is it better to look for another one? It's not that hard if you remember a few simple rules.

Greeted by clothes

Of course, the first thing to look at is the place where the specialist works. There are a few not-so-obvious remarks here that I wouldn't have thought of if it weren't for insider information from a very close friend with a lot of experience.

So, the first thing: if we are talking about a small workshop, then it is easier to meet a good specialist where there is no sale of new tires. In such tire shops they rely on services and try to maintain their quality at a high level. Otherwise, simply do not survive. The store is able to save the tire shop even with poor specialists due to sales. True, they usually know how to “change shoes” there.

To sum up: if you want to quickly and efficiently “change shoes”, you can go to the store. If you need an expensive but good wheel repair, it is better to find a warm lamp workshop. If everything is together, then it makes sense to find a hefty tire center for eight lifts and with a crowd of slightly gray-haired specialists.

A very small tire changer is a double-edged sword. If the owner himself works there, then there is a possibility that this is an experienced tire fitter who sold all the kidneys that were at hand, saved up and set up his own workshop. But if this is clearly a hired employee, then it is unlikely that he is a good professional. A high-level master usually wants an appropriate salary, so he usually quickly leaves for a big company.

However, even a large office is not a guarantee of quality. Firstly, they have their own scourge - staff turnover, and it is not clear who you will stumble upon: a professional or a beginner. Secondly, not every company has training in principle, so someone can learn right here and now on your wheels. Therefore, we evaluate the workshop further.

You can leave right away if everything inside is covered with dirt. The room, and even more so - the machines must be clean. Yes, and the tire fitter himself should also be in a more or less clean overalls. It is clear that during the season of changing shoes, when there are queues and there is no time for cleaning, some small pigsty is allowed, but still. The same uniform of a specialist, not erased for half a year, is always visible.

Now let's move on to the machines. If there are only two of them (a machine for tire fitting and balance) - this is a bad sign. There should be at least a disc straightener and a vulcanizer, and ideally a sink. A good sink costs as much as all other equipment put together (not top-notch, of course), so its presence in itself is a good sign. Well, a more important factor is the impossibility of doing high-quality balancing without washing, which I talked about in a previous article. The wheel on the machine must be clean, it does not make sense to hang dirty things on a balancing machine at all, and a good specialist knows this. He will not want to work there, and the client in such a “tavern” will not be able to properly balance the wheels.

In theory, a good workshop should have a lift. But if it is not very large, then jacks on the street are also acceptable. Of course, provided that the space inside the premises is occupied by a set of machines, and not by a garbage warehouse.

Banal advice is not to go where there are no queues during the high season. Most likely, it is either expensive, or bad, or both. And, of course, you should read reviews on the Internet (for example, on Yandex.Maps). A good owner or employee follows them, thanks for the good words, tries to solve the problem of a dissatisfied client. Discounts, intimidation, torture, physical elimination.

Let's say that outwardly everything suits you, you drove into a clean and bright workshop, where you were met by a sober master in clean overalls. What to look next? Of course, to his job.

"With feeling, with sense, with arrangement"

The first thing the master does is remove the wheel. It would seem: what can be done wrong here? If desired, you can. They usually unscrew it with a wrench and they manage to damage the “secret”, if any. It is most often made of pressed rice (this is a subtle hint, yes), it does not differ in high strength, and it is easy to knock down the edges with a wrench on it. Of course, after that you will have to go somewhere else and give money for the removal of this “secret”. And this is unpleasant. A good master will not hurt her.

The next procedure is wheel diagnostics. Of course, an experienced tire fitter will see a self-tapping screw in the tire, while still rolling it from the car to the machine, but he will not yell at the whole “tire” that this is, they say, the cause of the misfortune. The reason may not be in it, but in a crooked disk or a disk with a dead paintwork (when air poisons along the rim), in a valve, spool or another self-tapping screw. Therefore, at the sight of a self-tapping screw, a good master will not scream with joy, but will be engaged in a complete diagnosis. The search for a leak takes place in different ways: either by the good old immersion of the wheel in the bath, or with the help of special chemistry, which is mixed with water and applied to the tire through a spray bottle. Chemistry gives abundant foam when air leaks, and only after the cause is established for sure, the master will announce his verdict and offer repair options.

The normal time for disassembling a wheel is a couple of minutes, no more. If the master picks for about five minutes, something went wrong. Most likely, something is wrong with the master himself.

Most often, of course, the reason for the descent is a puncture. For example, the same self-tapping screw. There are several ways to eliminate it: with a tourniquet, a fungus or a patch. The harness is used in two cases: as a temporary solution (to get to the fungus or patch) or if the tire is so dead that it makes no sense to spend money on a quality repair. Therefore, if you know that the tire is good, and they put a tourniquet on you, it is better to refuse such a “tire” in the future. A very lazy person works here, who, most likely, is on a salary and is not stimulated to work conscientiously.

Of course, standing over the shoulder of a tire changer and watching him work is life threatening. No one likes such clients, so it’s better not to annoy the specialist once again. But the quality of his work can be at least approximately estimated differently - in terms of time. You can follow from afar, and it's much easier.

If a puncture is treated with a patch, then it cannot take just two minutes. It turns out so quickly only for those who do not follow the repair technology and apply only one layer of glue. There should be two layers (the first one works as a primer), so it will not work well to seal in two minutes.

Side cuts are more difficult. There are two possible repair methods: cold vulcanization or hot. It is better if the tire is "cooked" - repaired using hot vulcanization. In this case, only the preparation will take about twenty minutes, and the entire repair takes an hour and a half to two. If they did it faster, then they used cold vulcanization, and this is not always good.

When editing a disc, it is difficult to spoil something - it is already crooked. Of course, if desired, in the process it can be overheated, underheated, and a crack will open. You can make a lot of extra scratches. You can put a stamp with a figure eight on a rolling machine and screw up the disk with excessive rolling where the issue would be resolved with three blows with a sledgehammer, because such a machine eight does not rule in principle. But all this can be seen only if you try to delve into the technology yourself. And many tire fitters do not delve into it. Simply put, if there is a desire to control everything, it is better to go to the workshop where such a desire does not arise in principle.

After assembling the wheel, a good specialist will definitely check it again, and not silently roll it to balance. “And do you balance? Let's put a mark, then I'll collect it! Have you heard this? It's bad if you heard. This method is offered only by lazy or crooked ignoramuses. The wheel after any assembly must be balanced. We have already talked about this in detail, so I will not repeat myself. I will add just one detail.

It happens that after balancing on a 16-inch wheel there are 120 grams of weights that way. This is a lot. Most likely, the tire fitter was too lazy to optimize. Theoretically, it does not look difficult - like turning a tire on a disk by 180 degrees. It happens that during installation the heaviest places on the disk and on the tire coincide, and in this case the imbalance will be maximum, and the amount of cargo will go off scale. In most cases, this can be avoided by just such an optimization, which lazy and gouging disdain.

Now it remains to see how the master will put the wheel on the car. First, he must make sure that the mating surfaces are clean and screw on the nuts or bolts by hand, only then wrap them with a wrench. But don't drag it out. The maximum torque of the wrench reaches 1000-1500 Nm, which is beyond the limit for this work, at a rate of up to 180 Nm on average. Therefore, after tightening the nuts or bolts, you still have to use a torque wrench.

An interesting observation: sometimes masters know that clients are trying to control this moment, and take the key in their hands. They even pretend to stretch the nuts. But they don't actually do anything, because the wrench has already tightened the nuts and bolts so that at best they can't be unscrewed next time (at worst they will deform). So a torque wrench in hand and a working torque wrench are two big differences.

And, of course, a good specialist will not lubricate fasteners with grease or lithol. For this, there are high-temperature lubricants.

Now the last advice for attentive people who are not devoid of acting talent (and courage). Go to the tire shop and tell the master: “I have something in my tires. Maybe the nipple is poisoning, maybe the balloon itself. This rubber is the 17th radius. If in his eyes at the words "rubber", "nipple", "balloon" and "radius" lights of hatred or contempt are lit, if his hand reaches for a machete, you have a good specialist in front of you. If he is also clean and sober, he can be trusted.

How to find a quality tire service - https://remont-diskov.

ru/

The average motorist about 2 times a year is always looking for a company providing tire service . At the same time, the question almost always arises which tire service is better or, if the question is convenience, where is the nearest tire service.

In order not to make a mistake with the choice of good tire fitting , you must always remember the factors that affect the quality of the services provided for mounting and balancing wheels. The main criterion that determines the quality of services and maintenance, of course, is the equipment. Only modern and high-quality tire fitting equipment allows us to provide fast, high-quality, and most importantly convenient customer service. In the season of mass “changing shoes”, tire changing stations become as busy as possible, but only modern professional equipment allows us to provide not only high-quality wheel balancing and installation, but also to carry out these operations as soon as possible. Service centers that value their customers do not skimp on the purchase of professional devices that contribute to impeccable service. Thus, the first thing a car owner should pay attention to is a tire changer. The presence of a professional automated stand becomes the key to successful and high-quality collection and balancing of wheels.

The balancing and mounting machine must be permanently fixed on a concrete base. This fixation determines the reliability of the results obtained when checking the wheel balance and is the key to accuracy when installing weights to eliminate imbalance.

All equipment must be periodically checked and calibrated. These maintenance work is always confirmed by the relevant document, and therefore the tire shop is always able to present documentation proving that such work has been carried out.

In professional centers that provide tire repair discs, there are always special flange adapters, thanks to which the wheel balancing is the most accurate.

The area with tire changers should not be located in a room closed from the client's eyes, it should be as open as possible for visitors to observe the process of tire fitting and wheel balancing.

the reputation of the company and the qualifications of its employees .
