Russian retail chains have increased investment in staff training

In 2022, Russia's largest retail chains increased their investment in staff training compared to the previous year, a survey conducted by the Association of Retail Companies (AKORT) showed.

All surveyed companies implement training programs for their employees, ranging from mandatory onboarding trainings for newcomers to special courses in functional areas. Market leaders, in particular Magnit, have licenses for additional professional education with the right to issue advanced training diplomas.

The most requested training format is short courses that combine online learning with practice. X5 Group has created a corporate university "Polka" for employees, which operates on the principle of a marketplace, where educational courses in various disciplines are offered on the same platform for employees of all levels.

Magnit uses a hybrid learning model on the LMS platform, which in 90% of cases is accompanied by skill development while working with a mentor.

Almost all of the retailers surveyed said they have stepped up their IT training programs this year. X5 develops several technical schools within the company, noting the growing need for training in skills such as data analytics, IT infrastructure processes, Python and Java programming languages, and so on. Magnit also singled out IT training as a separate area with many highly specialized courses.

Now companies are focused on improving business efficiency, so more and more participants are enrolling in business process optimization programs. Also, management and communication skills development programs, courses on working with people, finance, logistics and marketing are in great demand among employees of retail chains.

In 2022, a new direction began to actively develop - social learning and sustainable development.

Major market players provide employees with the opportunity to receive higher education at a partner university or study under MBA programs, and also invite teachers from leading Russian universities to conduct courses for staff.

Retail chains invest not only in the training of their own employees, but also the personnel of partner companies.
