Require tools to pump a stroller tire

Don’t forget to bring some tools that will make your pumping experience awesome.

  • The Stroller Tire Air Pump
  • A pair of hand gloves.

If you own a Bob stroller, chances are you will eventually need to inflate the tires. While this may seem like a daunting task, it is actually quite easy to do. With a few simple tools and a little bit of know-how, you can have your stroller’s tires inflated in no time.

The first thing you will need is an air compressor. You can find these at most hardware stores or online. Once you have your air compressor, attach the hose to the tire valve. Then, open the valve and start pumping air into the tire.

It is important to check the pressure frequently while inflating the tire. You can use a pressure gauge to do this. Once the tire is inflated to the desired pressure, close the valve and remove the hose.

That’s all there is to it! Inflating your Bob stroller’s tires is a quick and easy process that anyone can do.

The method of pumping is different due to different models of wheels. Below I will describe how to inflate the most popular tires in the present market.

How to pump uneven tire pressure

First of all, remove the wheel from the stroller and open the valve stem cap from the valve stem tire. Follow the instruction (PSI limit) written on the wheel. Some tire PSI capacity is 235- 250 and some wheel capacity is more or less. It depends on the brand and model.

Now you can start pumping and check if is it okay or not. Never try to pump with a gas pump.

How to pump a bumbleride stroller wheel

Some parents face trouble pumping up the stroller bumbleride wheel. Here is a solution for you. Check and make sure that the tire is properly seated with the rim, If not, adjust and re-align.

Now open the valve stem cap and pump till inflate up to 30 PSI. Standard PSI is 35 but we recommend 25. Be careful about overfilling.

Note: The best way to pump is foot and hand pump to 25-30 PSI.

How to pump up a bugaboo pram tire

It’s important to know the process of inflating a tube before the pump. At first, unscrew the valve cap. Carefully attach or screw the pumper wheel valve and fill the air as required. If you inflate manually, follow the PSI up to 25-35. But the standard PSI is 30. After filling the air don’t forget to screw the valve cap.

Note: Please don’t use a gas pump to inflate the tube.

Learn how to inflate (fill air in) tire of a baby stroller correctly.

Why Inflate Stroller Tire

Lot of parents/caretakers don’t check whether there is sufficient air in the baby stroller tires.

A well filled stroller tire will offer your baby a smoother ride and allow the stroller to perform at its optimum point.

What we have observed is that most parents don’t clearly understand how to properly inflate a strollers’ tire.

Here’s more on how to do that correctly.

Have the Right Tools

Here’s what you need to inflate the stroller tires.

You will need an air pump, gloves, inflator. You will need the right stroller air pump; in most cases, bike pumps will fit in stroller valves too.

There are different types of pumps, inflators, tubes, tires, and valves. Keep that in mind before starting.

Get the Right Head (for the Right Valve)

Depending on what type of valve the stroller tire has, you may require a specific pump head for its inflation. There are two basic types of valve head you can use – Schrader-pump-head or the Presta valve tube.

There are lot of air pumps that have a dual pump head attachment, or if you’re sure which valve your stroller tire uses, you may get the appropriate pump for your stroller (Schrader or Presta).

How to Inflate Stroller Tires

There are times when the stroller tires will have less air in them, and they will need to be inflated in order to have a smoother ride. However, pumping air in the stroller tire may not be as simple as you think

There are many who pump air into the tire with their pump, but the tires just won’t inflate. That is because on most strollers, you need to press a locking lever in order to allow the air to pass into the tyre.

Most stroller tires have a lever next to the hole (valve) from where the air comes in and goes out. Once you attach the pump to the air valve on the tire, you need to lift the lever. Doing this allows the air to flow through into the tire. Once you’re finished pumping air, and the tires are inflated, you need to lower the lever back to its original position, and remove the pump.

Types

The design of the devices is simple, but there are several types of pumps that differ in functionality, weight and appearance.

Electric pumps

Electric pumps can only be operated when connected to the mains. Some models are battery operated. The advantage of such products is the minimum participation in the process of human work. In addition, the pumping itself takes place in a matter of seconds.

Leg Structures

Leg Structures are easy to use as they only use one leg. They do not need electricity, and thanks to the simplicity of the products, even children can use them. With the help of a foot device, you can pump up not only the wheels of the stroller, but also the pool or mattress.

Water filter pumps

Water filter pumps are indispensable for inflating frame or inflatable pools. This type of product is not suitable for restoring pressure in the wheels of baby carriages. Therefore, when buying a pump, it is important to pay attention to its type and purpose.

What to do if the wheel of a baby stroller is punctured

A flat tire does not always mean that it is punctured.

Over time, even if the stroller is not used or the wheels are inflated irregularly, air comes out of the chamber (albeit slowly, but losses still occur).

Different wheels leak air at different speeds. Perhaps one wheel loosened faster than the others.

In this case, it is enough to pump it up and wait for a while. It takes 15-30 minutes to see that the air comes out very quickly and this indicates the presence of a puncture.

A punctured chamber must be sealed or replaced with a new one.

You can do it:

  • yourself. If you have the necessary tools and a pump;
  • in a tire shop;
  • in a bicycle service;
  • in a bike shop.

The technology for removing the tire from the rim and changing the tube is not much different between sidecars, bicycles and motorcycles. Therefore, strollers are easily accepted for repair in bike shops and tire services.

How much pressure should be in the wheel of a pram? Why you still need to know

Under-inflated tires make driving difficult! Inflated tires make it difficult to ride and also increase the chance of a tire puncture.

It is necessary to inflate the wheels only with a hand pump, foot pumps are allowed, it is not recommended with compressors, if there is no way out, then carefully monitor the allowable pressure gauge readings!

Rims of this type are often rated at 1 bar. If you inflated more by mistake, then from excessive pressure the screws can be torn out of the plastic, the threads will break and the wheel will fall apart into two parts. If this happens, you need to pick up screws of a slightly larger size and length and screw them into the same holes. In plastic, they will roll a new thread and will firmly hold both halves together.

Inflation of wheels and replacement of the tube are not complicated procedures that require technical skills. Any man can quite master them. And this skill will come in handy later. After all, the child is growing. He will have a bicycle, which also needs technical care. You can contact any bicycle service, where those who wish will be happy to teach these simple operations.

How to inflate the wheels on a baby stroller

If a small child appears in the house, then purchasing a stroller becomes one of the most necessary purchases. It allows you to spend more time outside.

For a baby, this is a bed, a house, and a mode of transport. In it he sleeps, eats, walks, plays.

Like any piece of equipment, wheelchairs have various kinds of malfunctions that have to be fixed. Sometimes at the most inopportune moment, the question arises sharply - how to pump up the wheels on a baby stroller.

How to pump up

When a flat tire, it is urgent to fix this problem.

If this is not done in a timely manner, then the stroller:

  • becomes poorly managed;
  • may tip over on its side and cause injury to the child;
  • a flat tire will quickly wear out and you will have to buy a new one.

Tire pressure must be monitored and inflated regularly.

Inflate with:

  1. Bicycle hand pump. They are inexpensive and do not take up much space. Stroller wheels don't require a lot of pressure or air volume, and a bike pump is great for pumping. Most bicycle pumps are configured for 2 types of nipples - AV (auto valve) and FV (french valve). They are sometimes called Shrader and Presta. 98% of wheelchair cameras come with an AV or Shrader nipple.
    When inflating a wheel with a bicycle pump, it is necessary to transform its head into a car nipple. How to do this will be explained and shown when buying a pump in a bicycle shop. For pumping, you need to firmly insert the pump into the nipple and squeeze out the special fixing tab. If the pump has a pressure gauge, you should be guided by its indicators, in the absence of such, it is enough to press the tire with two fingers. If the tire is pressed through 2-3 mm under each finger, then the pressure is within normal limits.
  2. Floor mounted bicycle or car pump with pressure gauge. The pressure required for inflation is indicated in different units of measurement on the side of the tire in Latin letters in Bar, or kg / cm2. It is necessary to determine in what units the scale on the pressure gauge indicates and navigate along it.
    If the rim of the stroller is made of plastic, it may also be marked with the required pressure. You need to carefully examine the inscriptions on the sides of the rim. Sometimes the recommended pressure is 1 bar on the rim, and 2. 5 bar on the tire. If this is not noticed and pumped up to 2.5 bar, then the tire will withstand, but excess pressure can deform or break the plastic rim.
  3. Cigarette lighter powered mini car compressor. A small compressor that is included with any car. Equipped with a pressure gauge, which is convenient to monitor the pressure and a flexible hose with a fitting at the end, for fixing on the nipple. Energy is consumed from the cigarette lighter.
  4. Professional compressor used in curing. Before inflating a wheel, the recommended tire or rim pressure should be consulted by an expert. They can habitually build up pressure like a car and damage the rim.

When and how to inflate wheels

Wheels should be inflated once every 3-4 weeks. If this is not done, then the stroller rides very hard and is poorly controlled.

Under-inflated tires wear out quickly, crack and need to be replaced prematurely.

Not all stroller wheels are easy to inflate. Sometimes it happens that the nipple is placed between the spokes or rim elements.

Due to the small diameter of the rim, the nipple cannot be reached by the pump.

Conscientious manufacturers complete strollers with tubes, in which the nipple is not straight, but bent at an angle of 110 degrees and a little longer. When buying a replacement stroller or camera, you should pay attention to this. If the camera has a straight nipple, which is difficult to reach, then in bicycle shops you can buy a curved adapter for strollers and children's bicycles.

Once a month it is enough to make 10-20 strokes with a hand pump or 5-6 strokes with a floor pump, in each wheel.

When disassembling a tire, never use a screwdriver or other sharp metal objects. A screwdriver can severely damage the tube and leave burrs on the rim, which will subsequently lead to numerous punctures.

Changing the inner tube

If you have experience in changing the bicycle tube and the necessary equipment, it will not be difficult to cope with the wheel from the stroller.

Tube replacement method if stroller has solid plastic or metal wheels

The following tools and equipment are required to change the inner tube yourself:

  1. 2-3 plastic bicycle tire scoops. If there are no shoulder blades, then you can use 2 teaspoons;
  2. pump or compressor;
  3. 2 shaped screwdrivers;
  4. replacement chamber.

The sequence of actions would be:

  • Remove the wheel from the stroller. The rear wheels are easily removed without tools. It is enough to pull a small tongue on the hub and remove the wheel from the axle. The 10'' front swivel wheels are removed using 2 curly screwdrivers. You need to unscrew the screw on one side of the wheel and pull out the axle on the other.
  • Remove dirt from wheel and tire. Otherwise, dirt that gets inside the tire will later serve as a source of punctures.
  • It is recommended to bleed the remaining air from the chamber. You can press a screwdriver, a match or a pen on the spool of the nipple and wait until all the air has escaped.
  • Next, you need to insert a plastic spatula between the tire and the rim. After 5 cm, insert another spatula. Pry off the edge of the tire and pull it out. It is important not to bite the camera. Remove one shoulder blade and pry off the rim 5 cm from the second. So, alternately changing the blades, pull out one half of the tire.
  • Press the nipple and push it into the hole in the rim. Remove the camera from the tire.
  • Remove the entire tire.
  • Spikes, pieces of glass, nails, or staples from a stapler may have been left in the tire and caused a puncture. Inspect the inner surface of the tire visually or with your fingers and pull out all the contents.
  • Fit the tire with one bead on the rim.
  • Slightly pump up the new tube so that it straightens out and does not remain twisted in the wheel.
  • Insert the nipple into the hole and push the entire tube under the tire.
  • Using fingers or bead vanes, fill the other half of the tire.
  • Slightly inflate the wheel, but not completely. When beading, a piece of the camera could pinch between the rim and the tire. At maximum pressure, the chamber may explode. Therefore, you need to make a "swaging". Before the final inflation, press the tire from the rim with your fingers sequentially along the entire circumference and the chamber will fall into place.
  • Inflate the wheel to the required pressure and install on the stroller.

Pay attention to the rim. On the surface, where it comes into contact with the camera, there should be a protective tape called a “flipper”. This tape protects the camera from damage from the side of the rim. It may have burrs, scratches and joints. If there is no such tape, you need to wrap electrical tape on the rim or, in extreme cases, wide tape in several layers.

Method for changing the tube if the stroller has plastic wheels consisting of two halves

In this case no side vanes are required. To replace the camera you will need:

  1. shaped screwdriver;
  2. spare chamber;
  3. pump.

Both halves are attached to each other with 5 screws:

  • remove the plastic cover, under which the screws are hidden;
  • unscrew the screws;
  • remove one half;
  • remove the inner tube and tire from the other half;
  • put the tire with the camera on one half of the rim. Insert the nipple into a special groove designed for it;
  • connect the two halves and tighten the screws.

These types of rims are often rated at 1 bar. If you inflated more by mistake, then from excessive pressure the screws can be torn out of the plastic, the threads will break and the wheel will fall apart into two parts.
