Dodge equipped its Caravan minivans with a spare tire stowed underneath the vehicle. A cable winch under the floorboards drops the spare tire down to the ground so it can be retrieved. Stowing the spare tire under the vehicle allows for maximum cargo and passenger space in the passenger compartment. With Stow 'n Go seating (second and third row of seats can be folded into the floor), the tire is under the center of the vehicle. Without Stow 'n Go seating, the spare tire is stowed underneath the rear of the Caravan.
Open the lift gate of the Caravan. Pull up on the release lever on the left-side storage compartment. Remove the storage compartment cover. Remove the tool pouch from the compartment.
Open the tool pouch and remove the three bars. One bar looks like a tall "L. " One bar has a spring-loaded notch at one end. Insert the spring-loaded notched end of the second bar into the slot in the middle of the "L"-shaped bar. Insert the end of the third bar into the other end of the notched bar. The bars form a long "T" handle.
Remove the cap on the spare-tire winch's drive nut on the floor of the Caravan between the two front seats. Insert the long end of the "T" handle onto the drive nut and rotate the nut counterclockwise until it resists being turned.
Disassemble the "T" handle. Reassemble the bars to form a long hook. Insert the end of the third bar into the notched end of the second bar. Insert the other end of the second bar into the top of the "L"-shaped bar to form the spare tire hook.
Reach under the caravan with the spare tire hook and use the bottom leg of the "L" bar to hook the edge of the spare tire rim and pull it out from under the car.
Open the lift gate of the Caravan. Pull up on the release lever on the left-side storage compartment. Remove the storage compartment cover. Remove the jack handle from the compartment.
Remove the cap on the spare-tire winch's drive nut in the center of the cargo floor just inside the lift gate opening. Insert the jack handle onto the drive nut and rotate the nut counterclockwise until it resists being turned.
Pull the spare tire out from under the Caravan.

I woke up to a flat tire on my minivan this morning. I looked everywhere for my spare, but I don’t see it anywhere. Where do I find a Dodge Caravan’s spare tire?

The spare tire for the Dodge Grand Caravan is located in the undercarriage at the front of the van. It’s a pretty weird spot!
Here’s how to get your spare tire out from underneath your Grand Caravan:
If you want to avoid having to change your own tires ever again, you might want to consider adding towing and labor coverage to your car insurance. This type of coverage pays for things like tire changes, fuel delivery, locksmith services, and more.

Obscenely large and simple (and therefore cheap), you can't help but love it. Anyone, with the possible exception of notorious bachelors and young urban "sportsmen", in time will surely be imbued with sympathy for him ...
( Gennady BUNAKOV, manager of a construction company, 22 years of driving experience , talks about his car)
Dodge Caravan | |
Buying this car, I could not even think that I would become an adherent of the "family" cars, minivans. And now I can’t imagine life without this “monster”, and it will be difficult for me to part with him.
The car was brought to me on order from America in 2002. They chose for a long time, mainly from the native "Americans", and settled on this model. The first impressions were contradictory: panic fear of indecently large, in my opinion, sizes and tenderness of his kind, somewhat incredulous "muzzle". After the twelfth Lada model, the Caravan had to get used to, although not for long. First of all, I had to get used to the automatic transmission - I only had experience with "mechanics". The absence of a third pedal is, of course, an advantage both in the city and on the highway, but when the automatic transmission was “covered” at seventy thousand miles, the repair, including spare parts, resulted in $ 1,700.
Coachman, don't drive
The assembly quality of the instrument panel is at its best, but the exacting car owner could find fault with the materials. In addition, from the "music" - only a radio
I can't help but notice that with the purchase of Dodge I had to change the style of driving. This car is not at all fast and requires a measured and smooth ride, its “cruising” capabilities, according to personal feelings, are about 110-120 km / h, and a limiter is set at about 150. In turns, you have to decently slow down, since the spring rear suspension (especially in an unloaded state) does not allow you to clearly track the trajectory.
Seats can be folded or removed to increase the load space
Now about the dimensions. Outside, Caravan is just a large minivan, but inside it is a cozy room with two easy chairs and a small sofa. And every day you can easily rearrange the furniture, try out all the pros and cons of one or another of its positions. If you want a truck, just remove the seats and load, load, load...
A couple of oddities
Rear wiper is controlled by ... buttons on the center console
The functionality of the Caravan is excellent. All controls are in place, although there is one “but”: the buttons (namely buttons) for turning on the rear wiper are located on the center console under the radio (by the way, they do not require replacement with more serious audio equipment). Using these switches is very inconvenient: you have to stretch, distracted from the road.
Exterior mirrors are neither electrically adjustable nor manually adjustable from the passenger compartment
I also have to break away in order to adjust the rear-view mirrors - unfortunately, on my copy there is not only an electric drive, but also manual adjustment from the passenger compartment. I would sacrifice some boxes or cup holders (both of which are in stock) for the sake of at least the interior “horns”.
A car with automatic transmission can forgive the lack of a tachometer
But the stove in the Caravan is simply excellent, even in the absence of heating (which is not surprising for an “American”), the rear window never freezes or sweats.
Recently I ran into another small problem: it turned out to be very difficult to find floor mats for this model, they cost a lot, and besides, they were offered only to order. After some deliberation, I did it easier: I bought a rubber-based carpet, cut it to size, took it to the workshop, where it was swept over for me, and the result exceeded all expectations.
Can't see from here
Even the simplest American car has cup holders
Terribly annoying in this car is just disgusting headlights. Interestingly, the far and near are almost identical in terms of zone and illumination intensity. It seems that the headlight housing is in perfect order, and the lamps are powerful enough, but the problem is obvious. I tend to think that this is a congenital "illness" of the model. Also not very well placed in the Caravan spare tire (under the bottom of the car). To get it, you need to raise the trunk floor and unscrew the nut - why such difficulties? ..
Spring rear suspension archaic, but cheaper and more tolerant of overloads
Now the question arose about replacing the car, and once again I plunged into long thought. There are a huge number of cars on the market, but I think that in the end I will stop at the Dodge Caravan in a new body - with this model I am now on the “you”.

The question of how to remove the spare tire for Lada Largus, the owners are asked at the moment when it comes to changing the wheel. In this article, we will help you and tell you how to remove the spare wheel on a Lada Largus station wagon, Cross and Van.
Since the progenitor of Lada Largus was the French van Dacia Logan MCV, from which the location of the spare wheel was inherited - under the rear of the car on a special bracket. This was done in order to save space in the trunk of a car, and even without a niche for a spare wheel, a flat floor is obtained, on which it is more convenient to load cargo.
1. Open the tailgate.
2. We find a regular jack and remove it to the side. Behind it is a wheel wrench, which we will need to remove the spare tire.
3. Bend the flap in the trunk carpet to give access to the bracket bolt.
4. Use the wheel wrench to unscrew the bolt to lower the spare wheel bracket.
5. After that, remove the released latch and lower the bracket together with the spare wheel to the ground.
6. Next, pull the wheel towards you.
7. After replacing the wheel with a spare, put the damaged wheel on the bracket and put it back.
If you do not quite understand how to remove the spare tire on the Lada Largus station wagon, then I suggest you watch a visual video that shows the work process in detail.
For most owners of the domestic wagon, it is not news that the spare wheel mounting on the Lada Largus was done as unsuccessfully as possible - the mounting bolt is located under the bottom, which means it is affected by moisture, dirt, road reagents. Over time, it rusts and sours. And at the moment when there is a need for a spare tire — the bolt refuses to unscrew.
clean and lubricate the bracket bolt at least once a season. But who does this until they run into a problem?
If you decide to unscrew the soured spare wheel bolt on Lada Largus, then you will have to arm yourself with the necessary tool and be patient.
1. This work must be carried out on a pit, trestle or lift.
2. We clean the threads from dirt with a metal brush.
3. Spill liberally with penetrating lubricant such as WD-40.
4. Waiting for 10-15 minutes.
5. Trying to move the thread with a wrench. If it goes, then turn the bolt completely.
6. If the thread does not lend itself, we arm ourselves with a gas burner and heat the bolt from the side of the bracket well. After these manipulations, the bolt should either turn out or break off. More often than not, the bolt will come loose.
7. We clean the threads with a metal brush inside the bracket, and change the rusty retainer to a new one, pre-treated with water-repellent grease.
Due to the inconvenient location and the problem of removing the spare tire, many Largus owners transfer it to the back door using a special bracket:
On Lada Largus Cross, the spare wheel is removed in the same way as a simple station wagon. The spare tire mounting device has no differences, so there is no difference.
