Cars in DayZ allow you to cover great distances and explore the map more easily. But like real-world vehicles, they are prone to malfunctions and total breakdowns. Knowing how to fix them helps you get back on track and enables you to travel this post-apocalyptic world much faster.
This article will give you a step-by-step guide on how to repair your car in DayZ. We will help you resolve any mechanical issues, allowing you to escape hordes of zombies unscathed.
Cars in DayZ can only be fixed up to a certain point. For instance, if your engine is too deteriorated, it will appear red, which is beyond repair. The same goes for all other car parts.
Take the following steps to examine and repair your car if you are an Xbox user.
Once you’ve repaired the vehicle, you may also want to fill your fuel tank:
Remember that repairing your vehicle will alert the infected up to 50 meters away.
The repair process works the same on PS4 as with the Xbox outlined above. We will delve deeper into specific repairs since we have already covered general fixing.
Crashing your car is a sure-fire way to damage the exterior. Luckily, repairing the doors and other outside components is pretty simple.
The item you will need to repair your metal exterior is epoxy putty. Besides fixing tactical helmets, combat helmets, and other clothes with a hard surface, it also works great for car doors. Here is how to use it:
Your engine can easily get damaged by gunshots. If it is still salvageable, fixing it will not give you a hard time:
Another common issue on DayZ cars is damaged tires. Fortunately, repairing them is relatively straightforward:
There are five vehicles you can drive in DayZ:
• Ada 4×4 (the Offroad Hatchback) – This car is a four-wheel-drive car with a 138 kph top speed.
• Olga 24 (aka the Civilian Sedan) – This car is a large vehicle with an approximate top speed of 144 kph.
• Gunter 2 (aka the Civilian Hatchback) – This car is the fastest in the game, whose top speed exceeds 190 kph.
• Sarka 120 – This car only has four gears, limiting its top speed to just 100 kph.
• M3S – This is the slowest DayZ car. The maximum speed stands at about 50 kph when going downhill or driving flat terrain.
A broken car is a massive setback in DayZ, preventing you from reaching your destinations quickly and returning to your base on time. Luckily, fixing most car parts is not too challenging. You need a few basic tools to repair your tires, engine, and doors. Do not forget to gas up your vehicle regularly so that it does not let you down when you need it most.

In this guide we will show you how to repair vehicles in DayZ, how to find cars and parts and what to look out for.
What is this all about? It takes a lot to find, repair and maintain a vehicle in DayZ. That’s why we’ve written an improved version of one of our 2016 guides here!
What cars are available in DayZ? There are the same vehicles on both PC and consoles. In total, there are five different ones, four cars and one truck. However, the PC enjoys the advantage of also allowing mods that offer greater variety. In both cases, there are:
Where can you find cars in DayZ? Finding a car in DayZ is simple, but time-consuming. There are hundreds of different spawns for cars in Chernarus, Livonia, etc. You can quickly find them using the interactive map. Note, however, that you won’t actually find a car at every marked spawn point on the map.
Where can you find car parts? Vehicle parts, unlike the cars themselves, can be found very often. You can find radiators, car batteries and spark plugs in the following places.
Tires, doors, trunk lids and hoods are most often found at car wrecks. Wrecks are located at fixed positions on the map and house usable parts.
Before you can start repairing a damaged vehicle in DayZ, you need to know which parts are missing or damaged in the first place.
You don’t have to fix every part on your vehicle to make it run again, even if they’re all broken. Battery, spark plug and radiator are the three most important parts. If your battery or spark plug are broken, you can’t drive. If your radiator is leaking, you should stop. If it’s empty, the engine will overheat and take damage over time — visible in the smoking hood.
Repair radiator: If there is no water in the radiator, you will see it on the driver’s seat in the UI. Just take a bottle of water, water bottle, or canister and fill the radiator at the front of the hood. You can fit a total of about 6 water bottles full of water in here.
Battery repair: Your car battery can either be broken or simply dead. In either case, the easiest way to fix it is to find a new battery. While you can “simply” charge a dead battery, you’ll need a power source and a charger to do so. Say:
If you don’t already happen to have these items in your base, you’re sure to find a new battery faster.
Repair tires: You can repair the tires on your vehicle with a tire repair kit. You can find them in garages, garden sheds and gas stations. CAUTION: If your tire is blown out, you should never remove the wheel until you have found a replacement. With a destroyed tire, your vehicle is still easier to control in DayZ than without.
Repair doors, hoods & body: If a door, hood, or body is chipped, you’ll need epoxy resin or epoxy putty. This will magically repair the windows as well.
What about the spark plug & engine? If the spark plug is blown, it’s imperative that you install a new one, there’s no way to fix it. If the engine is damaged, your chances are even worse — zero. An accident or missing water in the radiator will quickly lead to irrevocable damage. The only option is to look for a new vehicle.
Disassambled car. Tire (Ada 4×4) Car Battery Radiator Spark PlugHow to drive: Basically, you should now know about the dependencies of each vehicle component in DayZ. If you want to start driving now, pay attention to the gearshift — the key assignment is as follows:
How to protect yourself from theft: To make it harder for raiders and thieves to steal your vehicle, you should tighten your vehicle parts. After you have completed the repair, you can additionally fasten parts with various tools. It’s not necessary, but it’s safer!
Why console players need to pay attention: On consoles, DayZ is notorious for its lags and judder. After a few test runs over the past few weeks, I (Kevin Willing) can confirm that updates over the past few months have mitigated the problem, but haven’t gotten rid of it. Therefore, I would rather advise players on the Xbox and PlayStation not to rely on a drivable vehicle.

When running across the vast territory of Chernarus, the player will certainly want to move on wheels, but this will have to go through a difficult quest to find and assemble a car. How to do all this? Let's figure it out.
Two maps are available in the game - Chernarus and Livonia. Their size is approximately identical - just over 200 square kilometers. Sometimes it becomes necessary to move from one end of the geography to the other, and running will take quite a long time. In addition, vehicles are used to transport oversized and heavy cargo and for raids. Especially useful is the car of a small company that has entered the field.
Vehicles are displayed in the online map using the "Vehicles" filter.
If you do not use the card, then try to search in places according to the class of the car. Passenger sedans and hatchbacks, as a rule, are found in large cities, an SUV - in remote villages and off-road, and a truck is found on farms, or in the same abandoned villages and on country roads.
Vehicles spawn with a random amount of fuel and a random set of spare parts and body parts. The main thing to pay attention to is the wheels. They should be everything. It is theoretically possible to ride on three wheels, but very slowly and to the nearest hill. If you come across a car without wheels - do not waste time searching, it is very long, it is better to look for the next one by whistling the necessary details from this one (if they are there).
To make a car move, you need wheels, a battery, a radiator, a spark plug and gasoline in the tank. Install all the necessary parts and refuel the car. The radiator for cooling the engine needs to be filled with water, otherwise steam will come out from under the hood, and the car will break down pretty quickly. It is best to use an empty gasoline can for this. Fill it up at the nearest pump or puddle and fill the radiator completely.
In addition, there are body parts (hood, doors, trunk) and car bulbs. Without them, the car will drive, and they are needed only for your comfort. Without at least one front bulb, the reversing lights and brake lights will not work, and driving at night without night vision devices will be unrealistic. Body parts will protect you and the engine from bullets a little, and at the same time it will be quieter in the cabin.
Since the loot in DayZ is tied to the class of buildings, you should look for it in car services, garages, barns, warehouses, etc. Often, texture cars come across on the road that cannot be repaired, but from which parts can be removed. They will be a little rusty, but these are trifles.
The game has a sequential gearbox. You need to switch them through the keys "Q" and "E" (down / up) the gear. The rest of the control is classic - "W", "A", "S", "D". Ideally, gears should be changed every 20 km / h, but if you have experience and need fast accelerations, turn the engine almost to the red zone. If the car stopped starting even in a fully assembled state, the red “Check Engine” indicator is on and black smoke comes out from under the hood - it is destroyed and will disappear as soon as you move away. Remove all the necessary details, pull out the loot and forget about it.
Important tips for driving
The developers have added several tools that allow you to repair parts of the car. Body parts are repaired with epoxy putty, tires are repaired with a tire repair kit, and the battery is repaired with an electrician's kit. To repair a part, it is necessary to remove it, pick up a tool and point it at the part.
There are five car models in the game - Lada Niva, Volkswagen Golf II, Gaz-24 Volga, Skoda 120 and V3S truck. You can find many more models of vehicles in the game files, but, despite the promises of the developers and their concepts, we will obviously not see them soon. Work on the technique in the game is extremely slow, which is depressing.
Acceleration to 100 km/h | Off-road maximum speed | Capacity (number of slots) | Available colors | Drive | |
Niva | 22 sec | 50 km/h | 300 | Green, blue, white | Complete |
Golf II | 14 sec | 70 km/h | 300 | Red, blue, black | Front |
Gas-24 | 16 sec | 50 km/h | 400 | White, black, dark red | Rear |
Skoda 120 | 25 sec | 40 km/h | 300 | Yellow, red, olive | Rear |
V3S | Not possible | 40 km/h | 600 + 4 barrels, 4 boxes, 50 logs, 100 boards, 40 sheets of metal | Green, blue, yellow | Complete |
Soviet SUV, the world's first crossover. It has high ground clearance, four-wheel drive, and, as a result, very good cross-country ability. It has only two doors, but the seatbacks recline and two more passengers can sit in the back. However, this makes it unsuitable for clans, since those sitting in the back will get out, they can be shot. Due to the presence of green color, inconspicuousness, cross-country ability and good speed characteristics, it is ideal for a loner or a couple of survivors. A spare wheel can be installed under the hood.
The second generation of the popular German hatchback. It proved itself in the game due to its excellent speed characteristics and front-wheel drive, which excludes drifts and allows you to make a spectacular police turn. The only car in the game with a five-speed transmission. In addition, the gear ratios are very high and you can spin the engine for a very long time. Because of the changed name, it is often referred to as "Günther".
The legendary Soviet sedan, which used to be driven only by wealthy people. It rides well in the game, but it has a high tendency to skid due to rear-wheel drive, so it is not recommended to turn sharply with gas. It will not be very comfortable to ride through the forest due to its large dimensions.
Czech sedan from the 70s. A rather ambiguous car, which received the nickname "Jet" at the time of its release due to its toxic yellow color and its speed characteristics. In the next patch, additional colors were added, so the players now simply call her "Asshole", distorting the name of the developers. It goes and accelerates reluctantly, the fields are even worse. Interestingly, the trunk is in front, as in the joke about Zaporozhets, and the engine is in the back.
Czech military truck from the 50s. It appeared in the game during the alpha test, but with the change of the engine it was cut out and returned only recently. At the moment, it looks unfinished - the maximum speed is only 43 km / h, after which the engine goes into a cut-off and deteriorates, and you can safely get under way from the last gear. However, it allows you to transport a huge pile of building materials, barrels, boxes and has an impressive capacity (barrels and boxes in this truck can also be loaded). We hope that the developers will finish the car soon, because in reality it accelerates to 60 km / h, which will be more or less acceptable. For now, it's a live target. Wheels can be connected and disconnected. The battery used is different from the truck. You can install two spare wheels behind the cab.
Despite the Napoleonic plans of the developers back in 2014, the transport in the game is very scarce. But, the one that is available is very well made. The cars work out the suspension, good sounds, functionality and a lot of unique animations. Ideally, five or two more cars and a couple of helicopters would be introduced into this game, but, alas.
The guide is relevant for patch 1.11 and beyond, if there are no global changes.

We present you the DayZ: Car Repair Guide. And if you have not read the previous guides yet, we recommend that you catch up so that you understand what will be discussed today. We hope you find this guide helpful!
In order for the cars that are in the game to be on the move, you need:
Desirable parts, but without which you can drive:
Q: How to stop the car?
A: Either shoot at the driver or shoot at the discs (not the tires, the damage doesn't go through them) though in this way a car without a driver can crash into something and get injured, similarly with the discs
Q: Do we get damage if jump out of the car on the move?
A: NO! Tested at a speed of 145 km/h, no injuries were received (AT THE TIME OF WRITING)
Q: Where can I find parts for the car?
A: In garages, small barns, booths, warehouses, workshops.
