FIRESTONE HAS BEEN THE NATION'S LEADING TIRE PROVIDER FOR MORE THAN A CENTURY.

FLAT TIRE REPAIR, TIRE PATCHES, AND MORE

It's a tough road out there, and your tires bear the brunt of potholes, broken glass, nails, screws, and anything else that can puncture a tire. Firestone Complete Auto Care's flat tire repair services are the best in the business. We've been repairing tires since 1926, and we take pride in repairing America's tires. When tire damage strikes, come to Firestone Complete Auto Care–the tire repair shop you can trust.

If you suspect something is wrong with your vehicle's tires, don't hesitate to come into a Firestone Complete Auto Care near you. If your Tire Pressure Monitoring System (TPMS) light is on, you've hit something on the road, your tire is losing air, or maybe something just doesn't feel quite right, bring it in. One of our expert technicians will take a look and tell you if you need to repair or replace your tires.

Driving on a damaged tire can lead to additional (and more costly) rim damage and repairs, so it's best to have your tires examined at the first sign of trouble. The solution might be as simple as needing one of our patch plugs if the tire puncture is addressed early on. In other cases, a leaking valve stem or valve core may need to be replaced with a new one or the TPMS sensor needs to be reprogrammed or replaced. Visit your nearest Firestone Complete Auto Care, and we'll take care of you and your vehicle tire repairs.

Tire Repair & Patching/Plug

Tire Repair & Patching/Plug

If your tires still have life left in their tread and are not over 10 years old, Firestone Complete Auto Care maybe be able repair or patch & plug them to get you back on the road quickly. Keep in mind not all tire damage can be patched if the puncture is too big.

Tire Replacement

Tire Replacement

Over time, the tread on your tires wears down, leading to compromised traction on the road and potentially dangerous driving conditions. Tires generally need to be replaced every 25,000 to 50,000 miles, depending on vehicle manufacturer recommendations and driving habits.

Tire Rotations & Balancing

Tire Rotations & Balancing

When you have your tires rotated, you help increase the life of your tires by helping reduce uneven wear. Most vehicle manufacturers recommend a tire rotation about every 5,000 miles or at the manufacturer-recommended mileage. Tire balancing helps ensure weight is evenly distributed around your tires. It's necessary about every 5,000 miles or as recommended by your manufacturer. Balancing can lead to a smoother ride, less tire wear, and reduced strain on the drivetrain. When you think tire balancing, think safe, smooth, and efficient driving.

Wheel Alignments

Wheel Alignments

It's best to have your alignment checked every 6,000 miles or twice a year. Even one misaligned wheel can cause the steering wheel to be off center and can lead to premature wear and tear on your vehicle over time. Keeping everything properly aligned ensures a smoother ride for you and a longer life for your tires.

Flat Repair

Flat Repair

A flat or leaking tire can leave you stranded on the side of the road or lead to a situation where you lose control while driving. Take care of flat or leaking tires as early as possible to extend tire lifespan and ensure your tire doesn't leave you stranded.

Flat tires rarely happen at ideal times. Let Firestone Complete Auto Care help you with these answers to frequently asked flat tire questions.

Should I Change a Flat Tire Before Coming In for Tire Repair?

To ensure a safe drive that doesn’t damage your rims or create more expensive repairs, change your flat tire with your spare tire before coming into your local Firestone Complete Auto Care center for flat tire repair.

What If I Replace Just One Tire?

It’s tempting to replace just the tire that's damaged, but replacing one tire at a time can present challenges down the road since the one tire will have a different tread depth and thus different accelerating, braking, and cornering abilities than all of the others.

Why Do I Keep Getting Flat Tires?

Few things are more inconvenient than a flat tire —except back-to-back flat tires. Learn the reasons why you keep getting flat tires and what you can do to help prevent flat tires from deflating your spirits!

What Is Pothole Damage?

If your vehicle hits a pothole in the road, you may experience steering and suspension system misalignment and/or damage, tire punctures, bent rims, and more. When your vehicle experiences a sudden jolt from a pothole run-in, timely inspection is highly recommended.

Pothole damage may not be obvious right away, but it can wreak havoc on your entire car if it’s not addressed quickly and fixed right the first time. If you've had a recent run-in with a pothole, head to your local Firestone Complete Auto Care for a Complete Vehicle Inspection to check for any issues.

What Is a Tire Plug vs a Tire Patch?

A tire plug is a quick fix for a tire that's leaking air from a nail or similar object that has punctured the tire. A tire plug fills the hole of the tire but is not reliable without a tire patch and not recommended to use alone. A patch is applied to the inside of the tire to further prevent an air leak and helps hold the plug in place. This allows a tire with ample useful life left in it to hold air reliably and keep you on the road for longer.

Can You Repair a Run Flat Tire?

Run flat tires allow you to drive on a flat tire for a limited time with lesser risk than non-run flat tires. A Run Flat tire could be repaired if a nail or object is caught before tire damage occurs. However, if the tire is permanently damaged, it is required to replace a Run Flat tire with a new one.

Why Is My TPMS Light On?

The Tire Pressure Monitoring System light will illuminate if tire pressure is too low or part of the TPMS system has malfunctioned. Important TPMS warning light behavior:

  • Solid — A solid indicator light means one or more tires is operating at an unsafe pressure. Tire air pressure has dropped below the 25% OEM recommendation placard pressure. The recommended tire pressure is most commonly listed on a sticker inside the driver's door. If there's no sticker on the door, you can usually find the specs in the owner's manual.
  • Blinking — A blinking indicator light means the TPMS has malfunctioned. One or more sensors may have failed or lost communication with the vehicle's onboard diagnostics.

Tire Repair Shop Austin, TX | Flat Tire Repair

A flat tire can cause the rim of the tire to rest on the tire tread or on the ground possibly causing a loss of control of the vehicle or irreparable damage to the tire. One of the most common causes of a flat tire is a puncture by a sharp object, such as a nail. Whether the tire deflates quickly or slowly, a deflating tire can result in damage to the valve stem and separation of the tire from the rim.

If you have a slow leak, and depending upon the type of damage you have, the tire pros at Lamb’s Tire will be able to repair it. For tires that cannot be repaired, we will recommend that you replace the tire.

Here are some simple methods to catch tire issues before they become costly or cause unsafe driving. Look for unequal tire wear, which may be caused by:

  • Excessive or too little air pressure
  • Problems with wheel alignment
  • A tire/wheel assembly that is out of balance
  • Problems with the suspension
  • Not having your tires regularly rotated

Also look for signs that you may need new tires:

  • Split or bulging tread or sidewalls
  • Objects that have penetrated the tire, such as nails or pieces of glass
  • Tread tearing away from the body of the tire

Additional Tire Services Offered By Lamb’s Tire & Automotive:

Tire Rotation

Tire rotation should be done every 3,000 to 6,000 miles or with every oil change. Lamb’s Tire & Automotive offers high-quality, affordable auto repair services.

Rotating your tires is vital for helping your tires last longer. Rotation includes changing tires from one side of the vehicle to the other, relocating them from front to back or a blend of both, depending on the type of vehicle and tires you have. Some tires have to be rotated at specific periods, while others will have to be rotated depending on the wear. Unequal tire wear could lead to unsatisfactory performance and poor fuel economy, and shorten the life of the tire.

Many factors can cause unequal tire wear, including:

  • Frequently driving in stop-and-go traffic or through road construction and potholes
  • Under- or over-inflation
  • Worn shocks
  • Unaligned wheels
  • Not rotating your tires

Wheel & Tire Balancing

Tire balancing is important to extend the life of your tires, as well as increase the safety of your vehicle. Lamb’s Tire & Automotive offers affordable tire and wheel balancing services in Austin, TX.

Out-of-balance tires can lead to uneven wear; vibration in your steering wheel, seat, or floorboards; and potentially unsafe driving. It is very important to balance tires frequently based on your car’s requirements.

Tires are balanced when you replace two or four tires on your vehicle. Because tires’ wear depends on driving routines and road conditions, unequal wear will start to become apparent after the first 1,000 to 2,000 miles of use. Tires must be checked for balance every 4,000 to 6,000 miles. Our technicians can determine whether your tires should be rotated and balanced based on wear or mileage.

IMPORTANT: It is not advised to replace just one tire, as this might create significant problems with alignment, balance and handling of the vehicle.

How to tell if your tires need balancing:

  •  Vibrations when driving
  •  Uneven tread wear
  •  Steering that becomes less smooth over the life of the tires
  •  Pulling to one side

Tire Pressure Monitoring System

Also known as TPMS, this system measures the air pressure or rotational speed of your tires to determine whether they have the proper amount of air pressure. Since most tire failures occur due to under inflation, it is important to make sure this system is working properly.

Frequently Asked Questions

This simple task is often overlooked, but it’s one of the most important things you can do to ensure that your tires last longer and that you’re driving on tires that are safe. Try to check your tire pressure a minimum of once a month. It’s also smart to check it if you’re going to be hauling a heavy load in your truck,  towing anything with your car or truck, or about to go on a long drive. Check your pressure when your tires are cold or your vehicle has been parked for three or more hours.

Every tire has its own proper pressure. You can check the label on the inside of your driver’s door or check your owner’s manual. If you have a different type of tire on your vehicle than you originally had, the tire experts at your nearest Lamb’s Tire location can make the recommendation that’s right for your tires.

If you have weight imbalances, you may be experiencing vibrations or other problems, and be putting unnecessary wear and tear on your tires. Regular tire balancing can slow tread wear and help make your tires last longer.

Professional tire maintenance is important to the longevity and safety of your tires, but your own regular inspections can help catch small problems before they become big ones. To get more mileage and better performance from your tires, look for:

  • Tread wear and depth: If you see exposed steel on radial tires or wear on any type of tires that’s worse on one edge, your tires have uneven wear. To check the depth of your tread, insert a penny with Lincoln’s head upside down into the tread; if you can see the top of Lincoln’s head, the tire should be replaced.
  • Embedded objects: Check for small rocks, pieces of glass or metal, or other objects that have been picked up from the road. Removing embedded objects is a good way to prevent serious problems later.
  • Damage: Inspect your tires carefully for any punctures, splits, bulges, or cracks, particularly in the sidewalls.

If you notice any problems with your tires, book an appointment at Lamb’s Tire. We’ll let you know if your tire can be repaired or whether it should be replaced.

There are several steps you can take to get the maximum life from your tires, such as:

  • Checking your tire pressure once a month or before a long drive. Proper inflation reduces wear and tear.
  • Closely inspect your tires for objects caught in the tread, holes and splits, and uneven wear. Pay particular attention to the sidewalls—problems there may mean it’s time for new tires.
  • Drive more carefully. Excessive speed, hard turns and braking, and frequent fast starts are tough on tires. Avoid road debris and potholes if it’s safe to do so.
  • When towing or hauling, stay below your tires’ maximum load capacity.
  • Have your tires regularly serviced by a professional. At Lamb’s Tire, we recommend that you keep up with tire rotation and tire balancing to help make your tires last.

A spare tire is something we don’t think much about until we need it. Although spare tires will last for many years, they will slowly degrade over time as the rubber breaks down. Make sure you have a spare tire you can trust by inspecting it for signs of aging or wear. If you have a regular-sized spare tire, ask your Lamb’s Tire technician if you should replace it when you replace your other four tires.

Remember that a spare tire (with the exception of a regular-sized spare tire) is not designed for long-term driving—its only purpose is to get you safely to a place where you can repair or replace your regular tire. Before you put a spare tire on your car or truck, inspect its condition and make sure it has the proper pressure. If you have any reason to think your spare tire is unsafe to use, have your vehicle towed instead. If you decide to drive on your spare, try to avoid high-speed highways and leave plenty of space between your car and the car in front of you, since the traction is likely to be different on the spare tire.

Like regularly checking your inflation, staying on a schedule for tire rotation is an easy way to keep your tires in roadworthy condition. Putting tires into new positions on your vehicle changes the tires’ wear patterns so that each tire wears more evenly. Relieving the pressure on more worn areas and having fresh tread in contact with the road can improve fuel efficiency, handling, and more.

We recommend that you schedule tire rotation every 3,000 to 6,000 miles, or whenever you have an oil change. At Lamb’s Tire & Automotive, our tire rotation service includes:

  • Rotating your tires in alternating patterns
  • Examining your tires’ tread
  • Checking the overall quality and safety of your tires
  • Checking tire pressure
  • Tightening lug nuts

If your three good tires still have good tread depth, you may not have to replace all four tires at once. Keep in mind, however, that some manufacturers of all-wheel drive vehicles recommend that all four tires be replaced at the same time for best performance. Our tire experts will inspect your tires and let you know if replacing a single tire is best for your needs.

Your new tires will be mounted onto the wheels with special equipment. Our tire technicians will also balance each tire and visually inspect them before installing them on your car or truck. Our tire installation services are available at every Lamb’s Tire & Automotive location.

We have everything you need to make sure you’re driving on tires that are in good, safe condition. Whether you need flat tire repair, notice unequal tire wear, or your tires won’t hold proper inflation, our ASE-certified technicians offer fast, expert tire repair. We also offer tire rotation, tire and wheel balancing, and brand-new tires for your car or truck.

You’ll find all of the top brands here, such as Cooper, Michelin, Pirelli, Goodyear, and more. Because of our relationships with the largest tire makers, we often have great manufacturer rebate programs that can help you save on your next set of new tires.
