DIRECTIONS

  1. Evaluate the tire injury. If the injury is within repairable limits, proceed.
  2. Take extra precaution to ensure the repair is made on a tire that is absolutely clean and free of mold releasing agents, grease, dirt, or any other contaminate before Tire must be dry.
  3. Remove damaged cord and rubber using a skive, rasp, and TIRE grinding wheel. A grinding wheel specifically made for tire repair can be purchased from BustedKnuckleOffroad.com.  Round the edges of the injury.  Do not leave sharp edges.  Leave only solid, undamaged rubber at the sides of the opening.  Do not use a regular grinding wheel as the rubber will melt under the wheel and stop adhesion of the primer.
  4. Clean inside and outside of the tire around the injury at least 1” removing all dust and rubber from grinding.
  5. Spread a generous coat of Vulcanizing Cement over the prepared area, both inside and out. Primer must be dry to the touch before vulcanizing compound can be applied.
  6. Remove EQUAL parts of both A and B compounds. Reseal cans tightly. DO NOT INTERCHANGE CAN LIDS!
  7. Mix A and B compounds together until mixture obtains a uniform color and texture. If mixing with your hands, it is advised to use gloves.
  8. Spread mixture into a thin sheet (1/8”, 3mm) allowing solvents to evaporate for at least 30 minutes and air pockets to dissipate.
  9. Press compound mixture into prepared injury. Stitch and pack thoroughly. Avoid gaps and air pockets. It is necessary that the compound be used inside and outside of the tire to create a repair that “sandwiches” the injury.  Build the area 1/4” above and below the surface of the tire.
  10. Use a heat lamp or shop light to raise the temperature of the repair between 100deg and 130deg. Repairs should take between 12 and 18 hours to cure.  Once cured the tire can be returned to service.

Radial cold vulcanizing patches

Used for repairing through damages with broken cord of radial tires of cars and trucks, agricultural, earthmoving and quarry equipment by cold vulcanizing.

The design feature of these patches is that they take the load on the entire area from the edge of the bead to the middle of the treadmill. A sufficiently long and at the same time thin patch slightly increases the rigidity of the side wall at the repair site, which has a positive effect on the quality and reliability of the repair of radial tires.

Radial patches are made of durable imported cord. These patches are prevulcanized except for a thin active blue layer. At the same time, patches of large sizes for the manufacturability of the installation and the exclusion of tire deformation at the repair site are made in a bombed form, i.e. their profile matches the tire profile. Such patches have no analogues not only in Russia but also abroad.

Install and select patches in accordance with the requirements of the technological instructions for tire repair and using the tables for selecting patches.

Radial hot vulcanizing patches

Cold Vulcanizing Bias Patches

Used for repairing through damages with broken cords of diagonal tires of cars and trucks, agricultural, earthmoving and quarry equipment by cold vulcanization.

Due to the special design of the diagonal patches, the widest and longest layers adhere to the tire carcass, which is crucial for a reliable tire repair. Bias patches are used to repair both viscose and nylon tire casings. In the design of diagonal patches for road construction tires, the direction of the cords is exactly matched to the angle of intersection of the carcass threads of the tires.

Diagonal patches, thanks to the use of imported cord, are very strong and at the same time flexible. These patches are prevulcanized except for a thin active blue layer. At the same time, patches of large sizes are made in a bombed form, that is, their profile corresponds to the profile of the tire. Such patches have no analogues not only in Russia but also abroad.

Types of patches for tires and features of their application

Few drivers manage to avoid cuts and other damage to tires on Russian roads. A similar nuisance is also familiar to owners of motorcycles, bicycles and other vehicles. Especially it adds trouble if it occurs directly on the way. It is for this reason that any driver should have at his disposal a set of special repair materials that allow you to restore up to 70% of car tires.

Fast and reliable repair of damage to the insulating layer as a result of collision with self-tapping screws, nails and other sharp objects can be carried out using plasters. They effectively eliminate through defects due to high strength and flexibility. There are several types of such products, which are selected depending on the degree and nature of the damage.

Universal patches

They are a vulcanized product equipped with a polymer backing. Such tire patches may be round, square, oval, hexagonal in shape. With their help, it will be possible to eliminate:

  • small holes;
  • cuts;
  • breaks.

The main condition for their use is to maintain the integrity of the cord.

A special adhesive and a cold vulcanization method are used to install this product. The multi-layer construction of the material makes it durable and flexible for variable load operation.

This type of consumables can be used not only by private vehicle owners, but also by tire shops. The popularity of universal patches is due to some of their obvious benefits:

  • simple repair technology;
  • no need for hot curing;
  • help create a rigid frame inside;
  • have sufficient thickness and elasticity;
  • come in a variety of shapes and configurations;
  • are characterized by low cost.

They can be used to repair minor damage, cuts, punctures that do not damage the cords.

Differentiation of plasters by vulcanization method

Patches can be vulcanized in one of the following ways: "cold" or "hot". In the first case, rubber bonding is carried out without the influence of high temperatures, so it is important to perform preliminary degreasing, remove various contaminants and clean the surface of the tires. During hot vulcanization under the influence of high temperature, a strong bond is created between the patch and the surface to be repaired, which reinforces the special stable adhesive. It follows from this that the material of the patch product must comply with the vulcanization method, otherwise the repair will be ineffective.

Hot vulcanizing

These tire patches provide reliable puncture closure due to the high adhesive power that develops when heated. They can be used to repair automobile, motorcycle, bicycle inner tubes and tires. By area, they are equipped with a special thin layer, which ensures a snug fit of the material to the tire. By following the installation rules, it will be possible to achieve a docking strength of more than 90%.

These products are durable and flexible. They are pre-vulcanized (with the exception of an adhesive layer of black rubber of a given thickness). Due to this, installation can take place without additional duplication using interlayer rubber at the site of the tire defect.

They are used to repair through damages accompanied by broken cords on the tires of the following equipment:

  • mining equipment;
  • loaders;
  • trucks;
  • agricultural vehicles;
  • wheeled tractors.

These products handle the load on the entire section of the tire - from the edge of the bead to the center of the treadmill. Having a sufficient length and at the same time a small thickness, they lead to a slight increase in the rigidity of the side wall at the site of damage. This improves the quality and reliability of tire repairs.

The vulcanization process takes several hours and involves the treatment of the defect site, the application of a plaster, followed by heating and cooling of the corresponding area.

For cold vulcanization

These patches, in various sizes, are used to repair punctures in tires and tubes:

  • cars, trucks;
  • motorcycles;
  • agricultural machinery.

Due to cold vulcanization, the material of the product adheres firmly to the working surface in the area of the defect, so that the wheel can last a long time. The fixing of the patch occurs with the use of a special adhesive composition. They are pre-vulcanized (a thin adhesive layer is not vulcanized during production). Benefits of such products:

  • durability - after application, they last as long as the tire;
  • provide a reliable joint;
  • low temperature resistance;
  • lack of rigidity on the side of the tire;
  • strength and high flexibility.

Select them according to the type, tire size and damage. For installation, a special self-vulcanizing adhesive is used. The surface is pre-treated, covered with a buffer cleaner, a special glue is applied, and then a plaster. As a result, it is possible to achieve a very strong, stable molecular bond in a matter of minutes.

After cold vulcanization, the tire does not change its characteristics, in some cases it is not even necessary to balance the wheel. This procedure does not require any special equipment.

Differences in patches by tire type

Modern manufacturers offer radial and diagonal tires. The repair of punctures in radial and bias-ply tires is very different, for this reason it is important to use the right consumables.

Radial patches

The structural properties of this type of consumable are fully consistent with radial tires. Such products are designed to experience the load from the edge to the middle of the side track. They provide reliable, durable wheel service, regardless of the location of the damage. There are patches:

  • standard - can be used for restoration in any part of the wheel, they are made mainly of polyester threads laid in several layers;
  • multi-ply - allow you to repair tube, tubeless radial tires of various vehicles.

Radial plasters are produced on the basis of viscose or nylon cord, known for its strength and low stretch. Having a large length and small thickness, this type of product during operation eliminates the risk of an increase in the level of rigidity in the side part of the wheel wall and in the places of a breakthrough. At the same time, the quality and durability of the work performed are significantly increased.

Edges treated with an additional layer of rubber are resistant to cracking. The use of a square shape allows for efficient repair work on treadmills.

They can be vulcanized by cold and hot methods. In the first case, it is recommended to use a seaming roller, in the second case, a one-stage heat press technology. During hot vulcanization, the thermo-plaster is heated to 135°C using a pressure of at least 3 atm - this gives the adhesive layer a special strength.

Bias Patches

Helps eliminate defects in bias tyres. This type of consumable material can have a one-piece molded structure and consist of specially selected cord layers - they give the product strength, elasticity for operation in variable load mode.

Install them on the inside of the tire, providing high tightness. Suitable for working with damage in any part of the wheel. Can be used to repair tires of trucks, quarry equipment, cars.
