The A-Class is the slightly smaller of the two cars and as a general rule Mercedes engines tend to last longer than Audi ones.

The Mercedes A-Class has only been out in the United States for a few years so there’s not a huge amount of data to go by. However, we expect it to have average reliability based on Mercedes track record and similar models in their lineup.
Mercedes cars aren’t really well known for reliability – that’s not to say they break down all the time.
However, they come with so many fancy features and tech goodies that this raises the probability of a fault occurring.
Consumer Reports had this to say about Mercedes: “Overall, the company’s reliability ranks in the lower third of all brands.”
On the Kelley Blue Book website, customer feedback is promising and the A-Class has scored a respectable reliability score of 4/5 based on 11 reviews.

The Best and Worst Years for the Mercedes A-ClassThe Mercedes A-Class has only been out a few years in the US however the 2019 model is the worst and the latest model is the best, that’s the 2022 model.
There’s not a huge amount of data on this but after analyzing hundreds of vehicles a common trend we tend to see is that the first models are usually the most problematic.
This is the first time the product will hit the masses and it’s when problems that went undetected during production, become apparent.
This 2019 model has had significantly more recalls than its predecessors too, which supports this theory.
The newer models will also benefit from all the latest features and upgrades.
Having said that the only change for the 2022 A-Class is an optional Premium package that now includes SiriusXM satellite radio.
What About Recalls for These Models?The Mercedes A-Class has had a total of 14 recall campaigns since its redesign in 2019.

Life testing of Hankook tires for steered and driven axles of a truck tractor and for free-rolling wheels of a semi-trailer continues. production and distribution of frozen food products. In addition, Icebit is a carrier with an impressive fleet of trucks of various tonnage, which has the status of an authorized Mercedes-Benz service center. Therefore, we had no doubts that the test cars were kept in good technical condition (which is very important for normal tire mileage). A little over a year after the start of testing, one of the couplings was disbanded for reasons unrelated to tires, and testing continued with a single road train with a 2008 tractor and a Schmitz Cargobull 3-axle tilt-covered semi-trailer. By the time the special project was launched, its mileage was 627,9978 km, which is not so much for a car of this class.
From time to time we measure the residual height of the treads, note the cases of damage, if any, and publish all this in reports on the pages of the magazine. In the event of negative factors, for example, malfunctions of the running gear of the car, we fix the moments of their detection and elimination, which allows us to subsequently evaluate the tire life, taking into account deviations from the norm.
The final report on the mileage of tires of the Ah32+ model on the steered wheels of the tractor was the completion of the first stage of testing - we recall that they completed their life path with a mileage of 222 thousand km, and shortly before that, the driver on the test road train changed. The next similar event happened three weeks later, but was not included in the previous report - this time we said goodbye to the four tires of the DH05 model, which had worked for almost two years on the twin wheels of the drive axle. The reason why the carrier dismantled them at that very moment is more of an economic nature than was due to technical necessity. The fact is that the Mercedes-Benz Axor tractor, on which these tires worked from the very beginning of the tests, went on sale. That is, he left the fleet due to the length of service (or, more precisely, seven), having wound an equally impressive mileage of 862,743 km on the odometer. This is the practice that has developed in the Icebit company - most of the large-tonnage vehicles are replaced with new ones, without waiting for the sign value of a mileage of a million kilometers.
A Schmitz Cargobull tarpaulin semi-trailer shod in Hankook tires was put on a brand new, brand new tractor, also an Axor model. Both axles were equipped with factory-fitted tires from one of the respected foreign brands. The proposal to remount the four drive wheels in order to continue testing Hankook tires did not even sound: the remaining tread depth of about 6 mm (even taking into account the cutting that occurred during a run of 180,000 km) was not worth the time lost for removing the wheels twice, disassembling, balancing etc. In addition, an inspection of battered tires revealed serious damage on two of them - ring cuts along the entire circumference of the sidewalls. This happens when slipping drive wheels that have fallen into the pits, which do not have enough grip to lift the weight of the loaded car. Also on the treadmill, one of the tires showed a bald spot around the repair fungus - a piece of tread with a diameter of about 40 mm was lost somewhere along the road, exposing already rusted cords. The presence of all these visual effects did not leave the carrier the opportunity to sell the tires along with the tractor (this would be simply unethical), and they went to the used warehouse. Two more can serve as spares, the other two can be wished for a beautiful retirement life in the form of flower beds at the entrance of some municipal office.
As for the dynamics of wear of the drive tires (see graph of average values of tread residues), its stability is obvious: no significant bursts can be traced. With a run of approximately 150,000 kilometers, there was an accelerated wear of the internal tires in the parks, which was leveled by the cutting. We will not assume their possible mileage to "zero" and fix the actual test result - 234,765 km.
And the tires of the Th32 model - all six pieces - continue their run. For three, the rest of the tread depth is about half of the original. On the rest, it is more than a third. There is still a long life ahead...

Six of the twelve Hankook tires continue to be tested on one of our trailers. With a run of more than 260 thousand km, they have a wear margin - on average, about 8 mm. Approximately the same durability is demonstrated by the tires of the leading European companies. The four tires of the drive wheels dropped out of the test program somewhat prematurely - with about 6 mm of tread remaining. Two of them suffered sidewall damage due to slipping - a typical example of driver fault - and it was decided to replace the entire set on the drive axle. Moreover, we were preparing this tractor of 2008 with a mileage of 862,743 km for sale, and it had to be in a salable condition and in full working order. The replacement of the four leading tires, which ran almost 235 thousand km and almost exhausted their resource, did not cause significant damage to the enterprise.

Total mileage of drive axle tires 234,000 km – unsatisfactory test result. An average residual tread depth of about 6 mm at the time the tires were removed from the tractor would have allowed them to cover at least 45 thousand km (the forecast is based on statistics from previous measurements, reflecting a wear rate of about 1 mm per 17,300 km of run). Premature culling was caused by operational damage - the inspection showed signs of intense slippage when in contact with sharp-edged objects, and, as a result, sidewall cuts along the entire circumference on two of the four drive wheel tires. The carrier's decision to replace was dictated by safety and reliability considerations - were it not for these damages, the total mileage of the kit on the drive axle would have been quite significant 280 thousand km, and possibly more, taking into account cutting.
The Th32 tires mounted on the wheels of a semi-trailer have already covered 260,000 km, and according to all forecasts, they will last up to 330,000 km, and possibly more. The tires of the middle axle of the trailer, which are the least subject to abrasion, can exceed the mileage of even 400 thousand km. I recommended that the carrier make a rearrangement - put the wheels from the front axle on the middle axle, and from the middle one, where the tires retained the maximum tread remaining, to the rear. Thus, it is possible to minimize the already noticeable difference in the rate of tire wear along the axles of the semi-trailer. In general, we are completely satisfied with the expected results of trailer tire mileage. As we previously assumed, the damage received by the tire on the right wheel of the rear axle of the semi-trailer has no signs of a manufacturing defect, otherwise the tire would have failed long ago due to structural failure - practice shows the rapid progression of such defects. We see a stable state of this damage after a run of about 60 thousand km.

Since January I have been working on a new tractor, and the Hankook tires that are being tested are only on the semi-trailer. There are no comments on them, the protectors wear out slowly and evenly, the pressure is stable, pumping is rarely required. Fears that the tread detachment on the right wheel of the third axle would develop and even before the end of winter the tire would be replaced, were not confirmed - even with such a defect, it serves normally. The main route, along which the road train with a tilt semi-trailer runs, has not changed: from the Moscow Region along the M4 Don highway to the Krasnodar Territory. There are still problematic sections of roads on which tires can be damaged on this route. For example, a section of several tens of kilometers in front of Krasnodar - the reconstruction of the road is actively underway there. In addition, along almost the entire route, the danger is represented by sharp steps in front of the entrances to the bridges - the speed must be reduced to a minimum. There were no serious tire damages on my road train in recent months. We are prohibited from driving later than 10 p.m. by official regulations, runs at dusk - just before overnight stops - are minimal. The car passed most of the mileage with sufficient visibility of the road, so objects and obstacles dangerous for tires could be bypassed.

We are quite satisfied with the interim results of the tests carried out by the Reis magazine: a set of four tires on Hankook DH05 traction wheels tests mileage is 234 thousand km, which is already a lot for Russian operating conditions.
