How to change moped tire

How to Change a moped tire « Auto Maintenance & Repairs :: WonderHowTo

Zach Levenburg of 1977 Mopeds in San Francisco shows us how to fix a flat on the rear wheel of a moped.

* First, remove the rear brake cable with a wrench, and loosen the axle nuts using one wrench on each side.
* Flip the chain tensioner out of the way, and push the wheel slightly forward without letting it drop. The chain will now be loose, and can be derailed using a wrench. The wheel can now be safely and easily removed.
* Remove the valve cap and nut, and you are ready to pry off the tire. Pry the tire away from the rim with your first tire iron, and then begin using the second one to pry the tire off, starting where it is just overhanging the wheel and working your way around.
* Remove the tube, and inspect it and the tire for causes of the flat. Start at the valve and work your way around to find any nails or debris that might have caused the flat.
* Get your new tube, and put just barely enough air in it to get it into a round shape. Remove the valve cap and valve nut, and leave the washer on - you want it on the inside of the rim. Place the tube on the rim.
* Get the tire seated back on the rim, with the tube rested inside it. Put the tire back on using the tire iron, taking care not to pinch the tube.
* Inflate the tube.
* Check to make sure the tire is seated. The bead of the tire should make a line closely around the rim - if it's beneath the rim or too far above it, deflate and re inflate until it is seated properly.
* You are now ready to put the wheel back on the moped. Take special care to align the brake with the bolt meant to fit into it.
* Align the back wheel using the chain tensioners, tighten the axle nuts, and reattach the brake cable.

Following these steps will get you and your moped back on the road.

Tips on tire and tube replacement for mopeds
Mopeds with single- sided swingarms that have one side of the rim exposed do not require rim removal to change the tire or tube. these models include Razz, Elite E, Elite SR, Express NC50, Kasea, FA50, QT50, Zuma, and many others. It may be necessary to loosen the muffler mount or completely remove the muffler to get enough room to slide the tire or tube out. Shown is a Spree with the muffler removed.                                   << Return to Tires Page

Tire Instructions

First, remove the nut holding the valve stem.
Push the bead of the tire loose from the rim all the way around, on both sides.
So it falls loose from the rim
Always start removing the tire at the valve stem.  Insert tire iron and carefully pry tire over rim while holding opposite hand down on tire to keep it in the center valley of the rim.
The tire does not stretch- you must get slack by having the tire bead in the lowered center portion of the rim to be able to pry it over on the opposite side of the wheel. Here you can see my left thumb holding the tire bead in the center, while the right pushes the tire iron down.
While holding the first iron in place, install the second as close as possible to the first, to pry over another "bite"
Repeat taking the smallest "bite" at a time, all the while holding the tire bead down into the center of the rim.
After the first few inches, the rest of the bead should lift over quite easily.
When the side is off the rim, remove the tube.     If your tire is in good shape, check the inside carefully for dirt or objects sticking in the tire. It is not required to completely remove the tire to replace the tube.
To finish removing the tire, insert tire iron from the backside and through to the edge of the rim, then pry the tire over.
Keep the tire bead in the center of the rim!
Move the tire irons apart while prying to force the tire off the rim
Or give it a few blows to speed up removal
This is the dropped center of the rim. All rims have this, unless they are "split", and can be taken into two pieces.
This is the tire "bead", there are very stiff wires wrapped around here to give strength to the bead, so it does not stretch and blow off the rim.
This is a alignment line to make sure the tire is centered properly on the rim. It should be the same distance to the rim all the way around.
To reinstall, set the tire over the rim edge
And pry it on with an iron, then hold the iron in place
While you use the other iron to get another bite
When one side is on, insert the tube, putting the stem through the hole first, then putting the nut on loosely. (about 1/2 way)
Get the tube in all the way, be sure it is not twisted or folded.
Push the tire down toward the center, just to the side of the valve stem. When prying the tire over the rim, the valve can cause interference with the tire bead in the rim center, making it hard to pry the tire over. The area over the stem should be the last part pried over.
Holding the tire down toward the rim center with one hand, use the other to pry the tire over. This is a critical moment, when many times the tube is pinched and ruined. Note that when the tire iron is forced down the tip of the iron is able to snag the tube inside and pinch it against the rim. You must avoid this by not pushing the iron down any further than needed to get the tire over the rim.
Continue prying the tire over, taking small bites, always keeping the opposite side bead pushed down into the center of the rim to allow slack.
The last bit should be right over the stem. This should be easily pushed on by hand.
The tube will try to get pinched in here, between the tire and rim. Be carefull!
The stem should be straight  when tire is inflated. Check around the rim/bead area to be sure the tire is centered properly.
Do not tighten the stem nut with a wrench. Finger tight is ok. after inflating the tire, let the air out to allow the tube to relax and center itself in the tire. Then reinflate to proper pressure.
The front tire needs to be removed for repair. The axle must be removed to take out the wheel, take note of any spacers and the position of the speedometer cable drive. Replica Watches Use caution when putting the speedometer drive on the wheel when you are putting it back together. There is a tang sticking out on the drive that must be aligned with the notch in the wheel that turns it. There may also be a tang that is aligned to the fork leg to keep the brake backing plate from spinning.

How to remove the rear wheel on a scooter

Author: Vladimir Ivanov

Sooner or later, every moped driver asks how to remove a wheel on a scooter . There can be many reasons for removing a wheel, the most common of them (there are interesting articles on the links, I recommend reading):

  • Brake Service Required (See Scooter Drum Brake Service)
  • Sometimes for adjusting drum brakes
  • Gearbox disassembly
  • Replacement of brake pads
  • For balancing the wheel of a scooter (I recommend reading Balancing a scooter wheel with your own hands)
  • And of course to replace the wheel

Removing the rear wheel on a moped is not as difficult as it seems, but, frankly, not easy either. This process is very different from a similar operation with a car due to the fact that many other structural elements of the scooter, such as the exhaust pipe, shock absorber and other parts, prevent the removal of the rear wheel with the disc in the scooter. Although the very scooter wheel is fixed with just one nut.

Preparation for dismantling the rear wheel of the scooter

Dismantling and removal of the rear wheel of the scooter start by placing the moped on the center stand. We choose a flat surface for this. Before carrying out work, we recommend that all threaded connections be treated with a liquid such as WD-40 or similar.

In most cases, to remove the tire, you need to dismantle the muffler with the exhaust pipe, that is, unscrew the two nuts from the bottom of the engine (photo above) and loosen the bolts that secure the muffler clamps (position 2 in the figure below). nine0003

Removing the rear wheel on a Chinese scooter in some cases (for example, on a Viper Storm 150 with a rear drum brake) does not require dismantling the exhaust pipe, but here everything is individual and even depends on the wheel width and tire pressure. In any case, with the exhaust removed, it will be more convenient to remove the rim. By the way, do not lose the paranitic gasket that is installed between the cylinder and the exhaust pipe elbow.

So, after dismantling the muffler, unscrew the lower shock absorber mounting bolt (pos. 1 in the photo above). Set the stand aside. In some models of scooters, there is only one rear shock absorber on the side of the variator, which, of course, does not need to be unscrewed. nine0003

For scooters with a rear disc brake, unscrew the brake caliper (bolts pos. 4) and move it aside.

How to unscrew the rear wheel on a scooter

If you do not have an impact wrench, then we fix the wheel from turning with a wooden block (it is unlikely that you can hold the disc by pressing the brake lever). When installing the bar, I recommend placing its emphasis on the bracket, and not on the variator cover, since it is not made from a very durable material.

Now we take a knob, a suitable head and try to unscrew the rear wheel nut of the scooter . We don't lose any details.

Next, unscrew the bolts that secure the mudguard to the bracket (pos. 3) and the bolts that secure the bracket to the power unit.

We completely remove the bracket from the gearbox axle and do not lose the spacer sleeve.

Remove the rear wheel from the axle. If the wheel is still holding something, unscrew the adjusting nut on the drum brake cable, as the pads may have clamped the disc. How to do this is described in detail in the article Adjusting drum brakes on a scooter. nine0003

Another wider spacer is installed inside the wheel.

That's it. Now you know how to remove the rear wheel on a scooter and you can do it yourself.

Install the rear wheel on the scooter in reverse order.

Tire change

There are situations when the driver has to change the moped tire on his own. To do this correctly and quickly, below is an instruction on how to do tire fitting with your own hands.

Alfa Moped Removal 110 Rear wheel Tube replacement

Removing the rear wheel on Chinese scooter in some cases (for example, on a Viper Storm 150 with a rear drum brake) it is not necessary to dismantle the exhaust pipe, but here everything is individual and even depends on the wheel width and tire pressure. In any case, if you pull out the hood, it will be more convenient to remove the bezel. By the way, do not lose the paranite gasket installed between the cylinder and the crankshaft.

So, after removing the muffler, unscrew the fixing bolt of the lower damper (item 1 in the photo above). How to remove the front panel from the panel or who shoots from a carp torpedo. carp. Alpha moped, how to remove the rear wheel release 1. Tilt the stand to the side. In some models of scooters, there is only one rear shock absorber on the side of the variator, which, of course, does not need to be unscrewed. nine0003

For rear disc brake scooters, unscrew the brake caliper (bolts pos. 4) and set it aside.

How to Remove the Rear Tire on a Moped

Step 1

Loosen the rear brake cable bolt on the right side of the wheel and slide the brake cable up and out of its holder. Leave the cable next to the holder while you remove the wheel from the moped.

Step 2

Place both wrenches on both ends of the axle bolt on the rear wheel. It's the long bolt in the center of the wheel. Turn the keys in opposite directions to loosen them. nine0003

Step 3

Move the chain to the side and turn the wheel one turn. The chain will break off the rear wheel sprocket.

Step 4

Push the wheel forward, lowering it from the wheel holder onto the moped. Now it will be completely separated from the moped.

Step 5

Remove the valve cover and small bolt holding the valve.

Step 6

Place one tire iron under the tire bead and turn it over so that the side of the wheel hangs over the wheel. nine0003

Step 7

Take another tire iron and, starting from the right side, turn the tire over the wheel. Keep moving around the wheel until one side of the tire is completely off the wheel.

Grab the tire with one hand and pull to the side where the side of your tire hangs off the wheel. It will completely come off the wheel and you now have a separate wheel and tire assembly.

Flange

To flang a moped wheel, follow the steps below:

  1. One bead of tire is put on the rim, the chamber is sprinkled with talcum powder. Then it must be slightly pumped up and put into the tire. Insert the valve into the hole in the rim. With care, so as not to damage the tube and tire, bead the tire. First, just with your hands, and then you can help with a mounting spatula.
  2. Inflate the tire to the correct pressure. If the tire is tubeless, then it is recommended to inflate it with a powerful compressor. Because in order for the tire to properly sit on the rim, you need to immediately supply a large amount of air. nine0010
  3. Visually check that the tire is properly seated on the rim. The size and type of tires must be in accordance with the rim dimension and with the instructions of the manufacturer's instructions. The rules of the road set the minimum tread height for motorcycle and moped tires. It should be equal to 0. 8 mm. For a moped, "Alpha" in the instruction manual it is recommended to have a protector with a depth of at least 1.5 mm
  4. Tire tread depth can be measured using a caliper depth gauge. nine0010

Tire pressure

The tire pressure must also comply with the manufacturer's recommendations. It can be changed in case of an increase (decrease) in the load, and its value is also adjusted depending on road conditions.

For example, the manual for the Alpha moped gives clear recommendations for tire pressure: front wheel - 175kPa, rear wheel - 225kPa . If we translate into the “atmospheres” familiar to everyone, then this is, respectively, 1.75 and 2.25 bar .

What you need

  • 2 wrenches
  • Iron tire

Tire for Alfa moped size

Rubber (tire) for Alfa moped of our domestic manufacturer Petroshina in St. Petersburg. Tire L-359, diameter 17, tread height 2.75 mm. The tire for the Alpha moped, the price of which is lower than the market average, is original, so compliance with quality standards is 100 percent guaranteed. Petroshin products are deservedly in high demand among domestic consumers due to the optimal balance of cost, wear resistance and, of course, quality. nine0003

This is the nicest tarmac tyre. Due to the pliability of rubber - a very soft ride on a hard surface. Thanks to this, the proposed tire is perfect for both city driving and out of it. A motorcycle "shod" in such rubber will be controlled on asphalt, primer, paving stones or concrete pavement.

Products can be ordered in different quantities, this allows you to either purchase one replacement product or completely “change shoes” for a very reasonable price. nine0003

What tires can be put on the racer alpha

Alpha is one of the most popular mopeds in the post-Soviet space. If you believe the forums, then this moped is simply the limit of perfection, speed, reliability and style. And all this is true. nine0003

That's just one addition in its price range. And this price category, in addition to the Alpha itself, includes its relative Delta and several Chinese scooters that do not honor Russia's eastern neighbor at all. If you look at Alfa with a non-soapy low price tag, then the moped will immediately become clear, at best, average. There really is reliability, but not the best metal and not very good balancing make Alfa not so attractive anymore. Power with a standard motor is terribly lacking. As for the style, we have nothing special in front of us and there is no ordinary moped, of which there are thousands. nine0003

As for the style, we have nothing special in front of us and there is no ordinary moped, of which there are thousands. nine0003

Unless the parts fit together better. But real pros know Alpha is not a moped. Alpha is a base for a moped, and the base is excellent.

This article will tell you exactly how to make tuning an Alpha moped with your own hands and what it can be turned into. 1. Tuning the engine and other internal components. Despite the fact that a moped is also an accessory, first of all it is a transport. Therefore, we will start with tuning the insides of the iron horse.

In addition, there are only two possibilities to increase its power. Switch. Of course, the speed, acceleration and dynamics of a moped are most affected by engine size, but many people forget that volume can be handled in different ways. nine0003

By replacing the switch on a moped, you can get a 20% gain in dynamic acceleration only due to the fact that gasoline will not be ignited at the same time, but depending on the situation. The picture is somewhat spoiled by the fact that there are no sports switches capable of this on Alpha and you have to attach variations for Chinese-made four-stroke scooters, which miraculously fit the classic Alpha engine. The connection diagram of such a switch looks like this:
Cylinder replacement. If the gain in acceleration after replacing the commutator did not suit you, and you want to noticeably increase the maximum speed as well, then sooner or later you will come to the idea of replacing the piston group and increasing the engine size. nine0003

This will increase the power of your motorcycle (it would be difficult to call it a moped) by almost one and a half times, and at the same time it will help get rid of low-quality standard pistons. With a starting volume of the Alpha engine of 50 cubic centimeters, it is possible to rise to 70, 72, 100, or even 110 cm3. We recommend options 2 and 4. The 72cc is much easier to install, and the 110cc engine, though only installed with a complete disassembly, will let you race at full speed. nine0003

Cylinders will fit from Delta or Active, but keep in mind that with such a replacement you won’t get off with one cylinder, you will also have to change the crankshaft, timing chain, rollers, oil seals and, possibly, the carburetor. All minor details are quite suitable from the Active. If you only have to change the cylinder and timing chain in your Alpha GT, the rest of the parts on this model are quite suitable for the new cylinders.

Actually, on this sun. Of course, you can remove the engine altogether and put something better in its place, but then this moped will be considered Alpha is a big question.
