It’s that time of year again…time to don your jingle bells and help Rebound raise funds for Arthritis Foundation of Oregon! This is our fourth year to sponsor and participate in the annual Jingle Bell Walk/Run for Arthritis, a spirited holiday event that raises funds to help cure arthritis.
Arthritis Affects Oregonians Daily
Did you know one in every four Oregon residents struggle daily with arthritis? At Rebound, we see many patients suffering from arthritis and know the toll the disease can take on the body, in addition to how it affects a patient’s quality of life. That’s why we want to do our part to support important research that focuses on finding a cure for this debilitating disease.
How Can I Get Involved?
We want to make a bigger difference, but we need your help. Our goal is to raise $2,000 and recruit 60 team members. We’d love to have our patients, friends and family on our team as we fight for this important cause. You can help with the cause by donating, joining our team, or by doing both!
About the Event – The Nation’s Largest Holiday 5k
The festive 5k is a great opportunity to help out the community, be active and get into a giving, holiday spirit. Whether you’re running or walking, you’re making an impact- all ages and folks of all athletic abilities are welcome. There’s even something for the kids! Children can participate in the 1k Fun Run with the Elves.
The 23rd Annual Jingle Bell Walk/Run for Arthritis will be held Sunday, Dec. 7, in downtown Portland. The race starts at the World Trade Center. All portions of the event will be chip-timed (5k run, 5k walk, 1k kids run). See more here, or watch this video about the event.
Join our team, tie bells to your shoes, dress in a festive costume and help us cure arthritis! Together, we can make a difference for more than 50 million adults and 300,000 children that suffer from arthritis pain and disability.
Visit the Rebound Orthopedics & Neurosurgery Team Page here to join the team, donate, check on our progress…or all three!

If you suffer from arthritis or arthrosis, then you need to run very carefully, adhering to the following rules:
Start your workout with a 10-15 minute warm-up.
After the warm-up - walking. Start slowly, if there is no pain, accelerate. The joints warm up well after 5-10 minutes of walking. nine0011
Start running after walking. Monitor your condition and increase the load gradually.
Exercise three to four times a week for 30-40 minutes. It is optimal if the workout with a warm-up takes 30-40 minutes.
It is better to choose rubber-coated tracks for running and special shock-absorbing sports shoes.
nine0004Do not hurry. Gradually increase the range of motion.
Consult with your physiotherapist. It will help you choose the optimal degree and intensity of exercise.
While jogging, use knee pads, orthopedic shoes, bandage. They will help you to better adapt to classes.
It is important to monitor the appearance of pain, and stop exercising in time. Therefore, do not take painkillers before running. nine0011
Feeling pain in the joints is a contraindication to jogging.

nine0000 ARTHRITIS PREVENTIONArthritis is inflammation of the joints. It is a very serious disease. There are many varieties of arthritis, they are very dangerous for human health, as they lead to ossification of the limbs, and in the future - to disability.
Most people live by the saying: “Before the thunder strikes…” Few people are engaged in the prevention of arthritis, only those who are convinced of how dangerous this disease is for health. It should be noted that the prevention of arthritis is necessary for every person. This disease is primarily affected by people who are forced to be on their feet for a long time due to the specifics of their work, those who went in for professional sports, who often had a sore throat, who suffered from various infectious diseases. nine0011
Prevention of this disease includes:
Rheumatoid arthritis is a disease in which the immune system mistakenly attacks the synovial membranes (thin membranes that completely cover the joints). The most commonly affected joints are the wrists, fingers, knees, feet, and elbows. People who have rheumatoid arthritis are at a higher risk of developing other diseases, including heart disease, diabetes, and osteoporosis.
Regular medication and a healthy lifestyle can help relieve symptoms and stop further joint damage. In some cases, medications can help bring rheumatoid arthritis into remission, and the symptoms may disappear completely. nine0011
First of all, it is necessary to perform daily physical exercises, consisting of aerobic exercise and general strengthening activities, which develop flexibility and strength. Exercise also helps relieve pain and maintain a healthy weight. Start with 30 minutes of aerobic exercise 5 days a week. For people suffering from severe pain, regular hydrotherapy is recommended. For example, sulfur-containing mud baths eliminate almost all symptoms of arthritis.
