Google is recognized as a global leader in corporate social responsibility. In the first place, he replaced the well-known manufacturer of designers The LEGO Group.
The Walt Disney Company, The LEGO Group, Natura, Novo Nordisk, Microsoft, Bosch, Canon, Michelin and IKEA are also leading the way in CSR, according to the Reputation Institute 2018 Global CR RepTrak® study.
Newcomers to the ranking are Natura, Novo Nordisk, Canon, Michelin and IKEA. In the top 10, they replaced BMW, Intel, Cisco, Rolls Royce Aerospace and Colgate-Palmolive.
Google, The Walt Disney Company, The LEGO Group, Microsoft, Bosch, and Canon were also among the top 10 companies in the world in the 2018 Global RepTrak® 100.
“To achieve a high level of reputation through the implementation of corporate responsibility, it is necessary to put into practice the declared goals of the corporate brand and follow their statements and actions,” says Ana Angelovskaya, director of research at the Reputation Institute. “The most successful companies themselves initiate an open dialogue about socially responsible behavior.”
The results of the 2018 Global CR RepTrak® 100 study demonstrated the key importance of good governance in the effective implementation of CSR. The heads of all companies included in the top 10 rating are known as responsible top managers, adherents of ethical business approaches and supporters of effective social activity.
Google CEO Sundar Pichai is one of the key factors in building a high level of company reputation and achieving a leadership position in the field of social responsibility. Recent studies have also confirmed Google's great strides in providing better working conditions. Experts note the company's achievements in providing equal opportunities and high welfare for employees, as well as creating an effective system of incentives. In addition, Google managed to achieve leadership in the Corporate Citizenship category.
“This year's results show an important feature. In today's environment, companies must move beyond purely social responsibility to focus on the implementation of responsibility in the areas of financial requirements, environmental programs and business ethics,” says Stephen Hahn-Griffiths, Director of Reputation Institute Reputation Services. “Companies today have a unique opportunity to raise the bar and demonstrate their commitment to the holistic implementation of corporate responsibility.”
Google's success is even more remarkable in the context of the current reputational challenges facing the technology sector in 2018. It is this industry that has experienced the most significant decline in performance in the direction of corporate responsibility. The overall CR index decreased by 3.1 points, the assessment of working conditions decreased by 3.9 points, corporate citizenship - by 2.9 points, management - by 2.7 points.
The 2018 Global RepTrak® 100 showed a significant drop in overall corporate reputation (-1.4 points). The current study showed an even more significant drop in CSR scores, by 2.1 points.
The leading role of management factors and corporate citizenship in the formation of corporate reputation remains unchanged and amounts to 15.0% and 14.1%, respectively.
The impact of working conditions decreased by 0. 8% and now accounts for 10.8% of corporate reputation.
Thus, the total "contribution" of the three CSR factors in the formation of the company's reputation is 39.9%. It is noteworthy that the importance of these three factors increases in proportion to the decrease in the overall level of the company's reputation.
A high assessment of the company's CSR activity "transforms" into 80.8% of consumers who trust the company and 83.9% who want to purchase its products.
A 5-point increase in CSR activity score (Global RepTrak®) results in a 7.7% increase in willingness to invest in the company.
