How to choose the right rollers? Three or four wheels? What is the difference and benefits of

We have prepared this article on choosing the right skates in cooperation with our partners - the National League of Instructors, the largest organization in Russia that trains professional instructors in winter and summer sports.

Rollerblading is one of the ways to keep fit for skiers in the summer: similar movements, approximately the same muscles work. Roller skating allows you to maintain motor skills in the off-season. NLI lecturers kindly agreed to give us their comments, adding practical advice and expert opinions.

Since the end of the last century, the design of roller skates has undergone a number of significant changes. In the 1990s, when roller skating was just gaining popularity, the largest wheels were those with a diameter of about 80 mm. They were often called racing, regular, high-speed. By 2004, fitness skates were massively equipped with 90mm wheels, and even larger 110mm wheels were put on speed skating skates.

To increase the speed characteristics, roller skates were equipped with wheels of even larger diameter, however, the frame of the skates significantly limited the possibility of increasing their size. The practical solution came in the form of the idea of removing one wheel in order to make the remaining three even bigger. This was a new milestone in the development of roller sports. Three-wheeled skates immediately after their appearance gained immense popularity among speed skaters. Nowadays, people who love speed skate with exactly three wheels.

- When manufacturers created a new design, many skates began to "change" to tricycle skates. However, the wow-effect quickly turned into disappointment: the reason was that three-wheeled rollers, with larger wheels, with fewer points of contact, with a smaller area of contact with the surface, turned out to be suitable primarily for experienced skaters who keep their balance well. That is, three-wheeled skates are categorically not suitable for beginners - they are primarily for those who already feel free in this sport and even more - strive for expert skating.

There are nuances in the choice of equipment for athletes, depending on the goals and objectives: for example, athletes in the disciplines of speed slalom and alpine slalom prefer triskates with large wheels (100 and above) - it is due to large wheels that speed increases. I emphasize: for athletes, the diameter of the wheels is primary, and the frame can be 3-, 4- and even 5-wheeled. For example, since I'm a professional alpine slalom skier, I need big wheels for speed, so I use a tricycle frame with 110mm wheels.

I think that obsession with triskates is typical first of all for amateurs: triskates are an undoubted trend. Athletes, on the other hand, take into account many details, choosing rollers for their goals, and not influenced by mass demand.

Vladislava Bureeva – Lecturer of the National League of Instructors in Alpine Skiing and Roller-Sports, Master of Sports of International Class, Champion of Russia in Alpine Skiing, trains on roller skates in summer.

Differences between four-wheel and three-wheel inline skates

Photo - NLI

Four-wheel inline skates with a wheel size of 80 to 84 mm:

  • are more stable and are therefore the preferred choice;
  • provide better weight distribution;
  • give more control when performing figures.
  • s are not as fast as three-wheelers with comparable wheel diameters.

Four-wheel roller skates are more suitable for dancing, fitness, difficult tricks and amateur skating through the city streets at a slow pace.

Photo - NLI

And it is much more comfortable for beginners to learn to ride on four-wheel rollers. This is confirmed by Russia's leading specialists in teaching not only beginner roller skaters, but also professional roller sport instructors - lecturers of the National League of Instructors:

- It is much easier to balance on four-wheeled skates. If I teach beginners to ride, I choose a four-wheel frame (4 wheels with a diameter of 80 mm each), because when you stand for a long time, it is easier to balance on something low. And with beginners, you have to stand for most of the lesson - a lot of time is devoted to explanations. When confidently skating and progressive skaters come to class, I definitely take triskates - I spend much less time on acceleration in them.

Andriy Brzezinski – head of the Roller-sport direction of the National League of Instructors, instructor in roller-sport, alpine skiing, freestyle skiing. Methodist, author of roller skating teaching methods

– The basic elements of rollersport are easier to learn on a four-wheel base. In my practice, three-wheel rollers are used only by skiers of a good level who already have some kind of rollersport base or long experience in roller skating.

Ivan Luzin - Lecturer of the National League of Ski and Roller Instructors, professional instructor, methodologist

- The best option for learning to skate for beginners is 4 x 80. Three-wheel frames are usually equipped with large wheels (diameter from 90 mm), and this is an increased level of complexity. That is, such videos are suitable for those who already have some experience in skiing, or athletes (even amateurs). Although in my practice there are student skaters who I advise to switch to a smaller frame and wheels so that it is easier for them to progress, but the fashion for triskates dictates its own rules - people do not give up and do not change triskates even for the sake of their convenience.

There is another example: a beginner bought three-wheel rollers, mastered the basics on them for a long time, and then, when he decided to develop further and realized that for this he needed to feel more stable, he got on four-wheel rollers. And everything became much easier.

I myself had a similar experience: when I came to the speed slalom course, I had skates 3 x 110. The frame is short, maneuverable, especially for speed slalom. But it was uncomfortable for me to hone my skills on such a frame, and I changed my shoes - I replaced the frame and wheels with 3 x 90 (almost the minimum height). That's when I was able to show an adequate result.

For beginners, I recommend choosing more stable four-wheel rollers.

Vladislava Bureeva

Three-wheeled inline skates with large wheels are less stable and require more skating skills from the rider, it is more difficult to learn to ride on them.

Photo - NLI

Designed primarily for high speeds. In addition, large wheels have a number of other advantages:

  • fast acceleration;
  • reduced vibration;
  • smoother ride and better rolling;
  • such wheels wear out less, so they will last longer;
  • wheels with a diameter of 110-125 mm can be put on a shorter frame, so the skates become more manoeuvrable.

– The benefits of 3-wheel roller skates are uniquely determined by the level of roller skating, the frequency of training, the discipline of roller sports and the stiffness of the wheels. The stiffer the wheels, the longer they wear out, but they are also more slippery. But they are good for making slides. Soft wheels have better grip, they hold better in corners, but they also wear out very quickly. The maneuverability of the rollers is achieved only when the wheels are close to each other, so it is important not to make a mistake with the frame - a long frame is needed for speed skating, downhill, alpine slalom.

Three-wheeled rollers have an undeniable household advantage: fewer wheels - less cost for an extra wheel and a pair of bearings for it.

Three wheels fit better than four. The second wheel in the front has always been a challenge for skate designers as it is closest to the ball of the foot and the bolt that attaches the boot to the frame. Three wheels allow the middle one to sit right in the arch area of the foot, and the other two to sit at both ends of it. Thanks to this, it is possible to move the boot and wheels as close as possible to each other, thus lowering the center of gravity.

The comfort of riding is greatly influenced by the boot and where exactly the roller rides, what element it learns. For example, if a roller learns to descend stairs (by the way, the NLI has special lessons on descending stairs), then it will definitely be more comfortable for him to do this on four-wheel rollers.

Reasons: firstly, it will be easier for him to balance on four wheels of a smaller diameter, secondly, he will feel more stable, and thirdly, four wheels are closer to each other and do not cling to the steps as much as three.

In general, triskates are not exactly a universal choice, but they are absolutely necessary if the roller needs high speed. When a person can confidently maintain balance on four wheels, he can move on to higher three wheels.

Vladislav Bureev

It doesn't matter how many wheels you have in your skates, it is important that you ride them in special protection, which should preferably be worn at all times, especially if you are a beginner.

Proper protection for roller skating:

  • back protector
  • vests
  • elbow protection
  • wrist guard
  • shorts
  • knee protection
  • shin protection
  • roller helmets

What type of riding is the tricycle inline skate suitable for?

Speed skating or speed skating.

Speed skaters, like skaters, compete in speed skating. Competitions are held on a regular track or on a track. The famous Belgian skater and roller skater Bart Swings set a world record in 2015 on a 3x125mm triskate. In the same year, the top 50 riders of the Berlin Marathon used three-wheel inline skates. Currently, for such races, professionals most often use four-wheel rollers.

If you are an athlete who is actively involved in sports, if you are an amateur who regularly participates in competitions, then we have special discount cards for you that allow you to receive significant discounts on the equipment, shoes or clothes you need.

Urban.

Speed skating, but not on the track, but along the city streets with steep turns, descents and ascents. Three-wheeled roller skates, in addition to high-speed qualities, have the necessary maneuverability. The center of gravity, located on the middle wheel, allows you to better respond to the slightest movement, helping on steep turns and when avoiding obstacles.

– Now freeskating is often ridden on three-wheel rollers, manufacturers produce many freeskate rollers on three wheels. The reason is primarily in maneuverability. When you freeskate, it is important to feel free, because you can do all sorts of tricks, elements, and it turns out much faster than on four wheels.

Andrey Brzezinski

Speed slalom.

High-speed overcoming the distance between chips (cones). For this style, as for the previous one, maneuverability is important. On classic four-wheeled skates, it can be achieved by rockering, when smaller wheels are placed in the center and large ones along the edges. Three-wheel inline skates are revolutionary for speed slalom, especially if the middle wheel is mounted a few millimeters lower than the outer wheels.

Photo - NLI

– Almost all speed slalom athletes now ride triskates, because this discipline requires both speed and agility. Three-wheel rollers are ideal for this.

Andrey Brzezinski

Photo - NLI

- There is another interesting nuance - the height of the cone (which the athletes go around) is on average 80 mm, and when the athlete has wheels more than 100 mm, the boot almost does not touch the cones during fast maneuvers. This is not only convenient, but also ensures the cleanliness of the passage - penalty points are awarded for each knocked down cone, so athletes significantly reduce the risk of knocking down a cone with a boot by choosing triskates.

Vladislava Bureeva

As for the usual freestyle slalom, the opinions of the skaters are still divided. Most hardcore skaters prefer to ride regular four-wheel skates because of the extra control that the fourth wheel gives when performing tricky tricks.

By the way, we have a special, detailed article about the right choice of children's videos.

Active recreation.

If you're skating in the park or on the waterfront, then you should definitely try the tricycle roller skates. The speed difference between 3x100mm triskates and 80mm 4-wheel skates is really impressive. In addition, large wheels “stumble” less on paving slabs, dampen vibration better while driving along park paths and when overcoming cracks between slabs on the embankment.

Roller ski training

National League of Instructors lecturer Ivan Luzin adds one more kind of triskate – roller skating training.

Alpine training is downhill skiing. The task of such skiing is to perform and train the same movements as in the turns in winter skiing. The asphalt surface does not allow you to comfortably ride and train on large slopes, because there are no “edges” like on skis, and the rollers are easily torn off. And on gentle slopes there is very little dynamics, so necessary for the skier to perform ski movements. Three large wheels eliminate this problem, allowing you to pick up faster and more speed on gentle slopes. Also, three wheels feel closer to mountain skiing, because they allow you to feel the front-back balance just like in winter, imitating the toe, center and heel of the ski. Wheel sizes 110–125 help you feel more sharply the different tilt of the rollers in the turn, if any. To summarize: the advantages of three wheels are necessary for the training of skiers, and their disadvantages are only additional incentives.

Ivan Luzin

If you want your skates to serve you for a long time, learn how to properly care for them yourself or entrust this to professionals. About the care of rollers - a separate, detailed article.

How to choose three-wheel roller skates?

Roller skate wheels come in a variety of sizes, shapes and hardness. Wheels with different characteristics are suitable for each style of riding.

Wheel size

Wheel diameter is measured in millimeters - from 57 mm to 125 mm and more. Sizes may vary for different types of skates. The larger the wheel diameter, the higher the speed can be developed.

– The wheel diameter is the most important thing that a professional roller skater pays attention to, Vladislava Bureeva emphasizes. – When choosing rollers, the roller first of all determines its purpose, and then decides what wheel diameter it needs. After choosing the diameter comes the frame, then the number of wheels.

Skates for beginners are small. The diameter of the wheel for amateur skates is from 70 to 90 mm. Large 90mm wheels are used by experienced skaters. Racing skates are equipped with very large wheels with a diameter of more than 90 mm.

Photo - NLI

Aggressive jump and trick skates available in wheel sizes from 56 to 59 mm. Hockey shoes often come in sizes ranging from 72mm to 80mm. However, different manufacturers may offer different configurations. Roller hockey skates have a unique hi-lo rocker frame. They use wheels of different sizes: in front of a smaller diameter, and in the back - a larger one.

Three wheel skates usually have four different wheel sizes: 90mm, 100mm, 110mm and 125mm. Most brands use the 110mm standard. Such rollers turn out to be slightly higher than ordinary four-wheeled ones.

If you want to maintain the same sensation of height and agility as a skate with four 80mm wheels, then feel free to choose triskates with 100mm wheels. They are more versatile, work perfectly with a short 231mm frame, and are suitable even for freestyle.

If you're looking for high-speed runs on the race track and you need a lot of acceleration, speed and stability, then you should look into skates with 125mm wheels and a longer frame. Keep in mind, the longer the frame, the less maneuverable the skates. And if you're planning on riding them anywhere other than the wide open space of race tracks, bike lanes and highways, such as on narrow sidewalks or crowded streets, the sheer size of the wheels can make it feel a bit awkward due to being too high off the ground.

Models of rollers depending on wheel diameters:
  • 90 mm
  • 100 mm
  • 110 mm

Wheel hardness

Wheels have different hardness. The hardness scale ranges from 0 to 100, but as a general rule all caster wheels come in 68A to 100 ratings.

Softer wheels are preferred for smooth, glide surfaces such as indoor skate parks and hockey rinks. For maximum stability and maneuverability, hockey players should choose soft wheels from 72 to 74A.

- The softer the wheels, the better the grip. The harder it is, the higher the speed and good sliding into the slides, recalls Andrei Brzezinski.

For all types of outdoor riding, wheels that are too soft will not work, as they will grind faster, and more effort will be required due to too much grip on the asphalt and poor glide. For slower wear, it is better to choose a set of wheels with a higher rate - usually above 78A, standard - 86A.

An important point: when buying wheels from unknown manufacturers on sites like Aliexpress, you find yourself in a situation where there is no guarantee of the required wheel stiffness.

Fitness skates are equipped with wheels with a hardness of approx. 78A and have universal characteristics of speed and grip.

Skate wheels for outdoor activities, skating along the streets and squares, must have an average hardness of 82 to 84A. They are more durable than soft wheels, but they absorb vibrations from bumps in the road better than hard ones.

Aggressive speed skating skates with good rolling should be 88A or more.

Models of tricycles depending on the stiffness of the wheels:
  • 84 A
  • 85A
  • 88 A

Wheel shape

The shape of the wheel profile can make a big difference in how you ride.

Aggressive skates have flat profile wheels. In cross section, they resemble a rectangle. This design provides a larger contact patch with the surface, which is important for skaters when performing jumps and landings.

Hockey skate wheels have a round profile that ensures maximum contact with the surface regardless of the angle of the foot. This helps hockey players make easy tight turns, as well as accelerate or decelerate quickly.

Slalom, recreational and fitness skate wheels have a standard elliptical profile - a narrow center with graduated edges - that provides stability and allows for easy acceleration when turning.

Speed skating skates are often fitted with pointed wheels for better resistance and minimal friction.

- Ordinary people (not athletes), in my opinion, will not feel the difference. Communicating with students, I understand that for amateurs there are two types of wheels - for aggressive skates (as mentioned above) and all the rest. A person who does not spend 18 hours a week on roller skates will not feel the super difference. But for riding in the park you really need a flat profile. Therefore, I recommend using a non-standard wheel shape primarily for roller skaters and those who choose aggressive skating. In my practice, changing rollers and wheel shapes helps to improve results, first of all, when a person decides to learn how to park skate.

Main wheel parts

Bearings.

Allow the wheels to turn on the axle. There are two bearings on each wheel, so a pair of three-wheel inline skates will have 12 bearings. The purpose of a roller bearing is to reduce friction so that the free wheel spins better. Even though the bearings are small, they play a huge role in how fast and smooth you can skate. Choosing the best bearings is very important in competitive sports. With bad, old or dirty bearings, skates will roll very slowly and loudly.

Hub, or core.

Plastic wheel base into which the bearing is inserted. Mainly made of plastic or nylon to minimize weight. The hub prevents the wheel from contacting the bearings and acts as an internal stiffener to maintain the shape of the wheel under load.

Different types of skates may have different hub designs:
  • Aggressive skates have a hard plastic wheel core without spokes.
  • Triskate wheels usually have large multi-spoke lightweight plastic hubs. Such wheels are lighter, there is no chance that the polyurethane will move away from the hub.
  • Recreational and fitness skate wheel core design provides maximum airflow to support greater speed.

- If you often jump from curbs, then put yourself wheels not from the cheapest segment. On cheap wheels, the hubs may not be able to withstand the heavy weight of the roller and the constant jumping off the curbs, adds Andrey Brzezinski.

Inline Skate Frame

The frame is one of the most important parts that affects the weight of the skate, maneuverability and handling.

Photo - NLI

Frame material

Inline skates are available with a plastic, metal or carbon frame in various sizes.

The metal frame is more durable and is essential for heavy rollers. Plastic is elastic, provides a smooth ride while riding and is perfect for beginners.

Metal frames are available in aluminum and magnesium alloy. On fitness skates and models for different types of slalom and speed skating, aluminum alloy frames are installed. They are rigid and durable, unlike plastic ones, they can cope with the heavy loads that fall on the skates in aggressive types of skating.

Frame dimensions

Another important factor is the length of the frame. It is measured between the center of the hole of the first and fourth fixing bolts.

  • Short frame: 219- 231 mm.
  • Medium frame: 231 - 245mm.
  • Long frame: 250 - 280 mm or more.

The length of the frame determines whether you can replace the original wheels with slightly larger ones.

– The longer the frame, the more stable the rollers are on straight and wide turns, but they lose a lot in maneuverability, notes Andrey Brzezinski.

Thermoformable liner

Each person has their own individual anatomy of the foot - different protruding bones, different lengths of the fingers or the shape of the joint.

In order to adapt the standard boot to a particular foot, inline skate sports models use a thermoforming process for the inner boot. This is possible with those models in which the boot is made of thermoformable materials.

In its simplest form, shaping takes place under the heat of the foot. The boot is made in such a way that in the process of wearing the foam material is molded to the individual shape of the legs up to a certain limit. For example, if a joint protrudes a little, then in this place the material will be taken under its shape. But in this embodiment, the number of formed zones of the liner is the smallest.

Models in the high price segment use more expensive materials that better remember the shape, and there are more moldable zones in such boots. The lining of these models is baked by heating in a special oven to a certain temperature specified by the manufacturer, after which the boot is seated along the leg to form an impression. In order to provide a more precise fit and create additional space in places with protruding joints and bones, they resort to special expanders.

Kant's service centers have all the necessary equipment and professional craftsmen who will make you high-quality bootfitting of skates and other summer shoes.

By the way, we have a detailed article on how the whole process is organized.

We categorically do not recommend boot fitting at home - the inability to accurately control the heating temperature and the lack of professional tools and skills are guaranteed to lead to irreparable damage to shoes.

Triskate Powerslide

Powerslide pioneered the revolutionary triskate technology of the Triskate.

The history of the company dates back to 1994. It was then that a wave of mass passion for roller skating began. The founder of the brand was skater Matthias Knoll, who, together with Stefan Gšhl, registered the PowerslideTrue company, and by 1997 created his own collection, launching a line of roller skates under the Powerslide brand. For their brand, friends used the name of the most effective way of braking - powerslide (powerslide). The presence in the name of this technique of the word POWER - energy, reflected their desire to move forward, the desire to be aggressive, young and dynamic.

The slogan of WE LOVE TO SKATE is “We love to skate”. Passion and love for the sport have made it one of the world's top inline skate manufacturers over the past two decades.

In 2008, Powerslide officially introduced the first line of Phuzion tricycle fitness skates, with larger wheels to 110mm. This was a real revolution, so the further development of triskates for other disciplines, in particular speed skating and hockey, was continued using even larger diameter wheels - 125 mm.

In 2012, Powerslide launched the Doop Skates series, which includes the Doop Swift 3x100mm speed triskate and the off-road Doop Swift 150 Edge with two 150mm inflatable wheels.

Three-wheel skates gained real popularity after the famous Belgian Bart Swings (Bart Swings) won the 3x125mm triskate at the Berlin Marathon, covering 42 kilometers in just 56 minutes and 48 seconds.

Powerslide's next innovative technology was a unique frame attachment design based on the Trinity concept. The classic roller skate frame is attached to the boot in two places - in the toe area and under the heel. And Trinity uses three attachment points - two on the sides and one in the center. Thanks to this, a few millimeters are gained in order to lower the skate boot lower to the frame. The lower fit of the boot provides better maneuverability and greater stability. In addition, the shorter distance between the attachment points creates the most efficient transmission of force.

Powerslide HC Evo Pro

Slalom triskate with Nexus 3x90mm rocker specially designed for freestyle. It is this triskate model that is used by rollersport lecturers who work in the main team of the National League of Instructors.

Powerslide Nexus Rocker aluminum frame provides good maneuverability and control. In addition, it has a low profile, so even with 90mm wheels you will feel the same fit as with 80mm ones.

The

Powerslide HC Evo Pro provides a huge amount of slalom rocking options that are not available on conventional 4-wheel skates. For example, the ability to lay an arc, balancing on only one or two wheels. On these skates, you can even swing the left and right skates differently, and thus develop your own freestyle style.

The Powerslide HC Evo Inner and Outer Boot has many convenient features. For example, the High-Cut cuff provides ankle support to stabilize and reduce muscle fatigue.

90mm wheels make tricks easier by allowing you to lift your heel and toe higher. In addition, at high speeds it is easier to balance on one wheel, so maintaining speed and maintaining balance is easier with larger wheels.

Skates fitted as standard with UC Undercover 9 polyurethane wheels0mm / 88A and classic Wicked Twincam ILQ 9 bearings.

The HC Evo boot has a 3mm higher heel lift for a more forward lean. The outer shell of the boot is made of carbon, so the rollers are lightweight. The thermoformable liner allows you to bake the boot to the individual anatomy of the foot, ensuring maximum comfort and performance of tricks, and almost immediately after thermoforming.

Please note that the Powerslide HC Evo Pro triskate runs small, so it is recommended that you measure it in person at the time of purchase and choose one size larger than usual.

Be sure to check the screws before first use and tighten if necessary. Also note that after this, you need to check the condition of the screws regularly.

Powerslide is a proven brand. A very high-quality and diverse assortment of videos, from children's to high-performance sports, - says Vladislava Bureeva.

Fila triskate

The Italian company Fila was founded in 1911 in Italy by the Fila brothers, led by Giansevero Fila. They started with the production of clothes for the inhabitants of the Alpine regions, and in the 70s they switched to sportswear and shoes. In 1999, the brand launched its own line of inline skates. From the very beginning, the main feature of Fila rollers was a serious emphasis on design and technology. During the design process, each model went through many practical tests. The rollers were tested not only by professional riders, but also by amateurs, all of them made their comments.

The beginning of the 2000s was a difficult period for the company, and in 2007 the South Korean branch completely bought out the nonsense. And since this year, the production of Fila skates has reached a new technological level, surprising with new models every year.

The main categories of Fila skates are fitness models for basic and advanced skating, freeskate skates, and quads. But in addition to fitness videos, Fila also has sports models in its assortment.

By the way, we have a detailed article - what is a freeskate and how to choose the right rollers for this style of skating?.

Balance bikes PLANK

ITS PLUSES AND MINUSES.

Balance bike
is a small children's bike without pedals.
It is also called a cyclist, runbike, walker, velokat. Sometimes there are also such names as a balance bike and a balance bike.
The balance bike is quite famous in the world and, in recent years, has rapidly begun to gain popularity in our country. In Europe, cycling races have driven 3- and 4-wheeled bikes out of the market.
What is the idea of running a balance bike. It doesn't have to pedal. The child sits on it and, pushing his feet off the ground, rides.

Which is better: a balance bike or a three- or four-wheeled bicycle.
Why is it better to take a balance bike for small children up to 4-5 years old?
First of all, because it is too difficult for a little man to do several complex things at the same time during a trip.

When riding a bicycle, the child must at the same time:
Maintain balance. To pedal. Assess the environment and control the direction of movement using the steering wheel. Apply the brakes correctly and on time. Children from 5 years old can already cope with all this at once, but for a baby of 2-3 years old it is too difficult. The problem of balance can be solved with a three or four wheeled bicycle. But there is a more serious issue: weakness of the child's legs in order to pedal. He just doesn't have the strength to do so. One more moment. Many adults find that the three-wheeled miracle of cycling with pedals on the front wheel is comfortable to ride. We can disappoint them. If you put an adult on it, of course, while respecting the proportions, then he himself will feel all the “charm” of this engineering solution and understand that the pedals are not on the front wheel - this is very inconvenient.
Not only do you have your feet in front and you need to pedal constantly to drive, but when you turn the steering wheel, they go out from under your feet. Not all young cyclists can even reach these pedals with their feet. The classic arrangement of pedals with a chain drive between the wheels is the most convenient option.
Next. If you take an ordinary children's bike with additional side wheels, then it is too heavy even for a 4-5 year old kid, not to mention smaller children. They do not have enough strength in the legs to move this "colossus" from its place. In such cases, the balance bike comes to the rescue. Everything is simple in it - he pushed off with his foot from the ground and drove off.

What is a balance bike for?
First of all, for the health and development of your child.
It seems that the baby has already grown up and even runs. I would like to put him on a bicycle, but he is still weak for him, and, of course, he does not know how to ride. So it needs to be taught. And these are falls, bruises, bruises, tears and fear .... Another vital observation that young parents do not immediately pay attention to is the weight of a balance bike. Carrying it, especially if the children are very small, has to be carried by the mother or grandmother who walks with him. After all, as we often do. Mom goes for a walk with the child, naturally comes along the road to buy something in the store and she, poor thing, has to drag her son or daughter, purchases, and then this four-wheeled monster if the child is tired or runs ahead with friends. It's hard for her alone.

Benefits of riding a balance bike:
On a balance bike your child will quickly learn to keep balance, develop dexterity and coordination of movements. After riding it, he can easily change to a two-wheeled bicycle. The experience of many parents suggests that when changing from a balance bike, learning to ride a bike is much faster and easier. The balance bike helps to develop independence . There is an ability to quickly make a decision and bear responsibility for it. After all, this is his transport and he himself rides it, steers and is responsible for it himself.
Another plus from the same series - the baby learns to assess the terrain and understand how it affects his trip. For example, going uphill is more difficult than going downhill, but when rolling downhill, you can develop too much speed and not have time to slow down. After some time, when walking and traveling, he himself begins to look for places where you can go around obstacles, a stone, a high curb, steps, etc. Develops a sense of speed and self-confidence When traveling fast, the instinct of self-preservation develops. The kid is not afraid to fall, because in case of any fall he instinctively rests his feet on the ground. Although it cannot be said that they do not fall on a balance bike. They fall, especially if they no longer just ride, but start doing all sorts of tricks or simply “show off” in front of their peers. That is why when traveling on it, you definitely need a helmet on your head, and even better protection for your elbows and knees, especially in summer. The speed of movement on a balance bike is higher than on foot and your walks will become more enjoyable. No need to walk slowly and constantly wait for your child. Now often parents will catch up with children. Equal development of both legs . I am not a doctor, but some of my friends have been treating the baby's legs for quite a long time since birth. We tried many means, massage, stirrups, etc. , until one doctor advised me to try to put the child on a balance bike and let him ride it himself. A year later, all problems with the legs were gone. Now both legs of the baby are equally developed and he feels great. When driving on a scooter, one stands on it, and the other is repelled from the ground. The kid quickly gets used to such a ride and does not change legs. All mother's requests to change legs, if such are heard, are most often ignored or quickly forgotten. “Mom, well, it’s more convenient for me,” is the answer they hear. As a result, one leg is stronger than the other. When riding a balance bike, both legs are loaded at once and the problem is solved by itself. By the way, when riding a bike race, it develops not only the muscles of the legs, but also the back, arms, press, breathing is trained. Medical luminaries claim that young children are developing sensory-motor development. Those. the more the baby moves and the more varied his movements, the more intensively his brain develops. He does the so-called cross crawls or cross steps. Their essence is that each shoulder, when moving, leans towards the thigh of the opposite leg. They help to improve the functioning of the brain, coordinate the work of its both hemispheres. So regular riding a balance bike makes your child smarter and smarter . Lightweight compared to a bicycle. This means that it is easier for the baby to ride on it than on a three- or four-wheeled bike. It spends much less energy to move a balance bike than a bicycle. And what is very important: when riding a balance bike, he makes foot movements similar to walking , which is much easier for him than pedaling. Again, it is always harder for a mother to drag a child and a children's bike than a child and a balance bike. In addition, pedals sticking out to the side and side wheels do not add convenience at all. To roll the bike - you have to bend over, which is not very convenient. You can take a balance bike by the shoulder strap or roll it on the rear wheel with your hand on the steering wheel, and its weight of 3-5 kg is not the largest, and some plastic models for children 1. 5-2 years old generally weigh 2-2.5 kg , which is lighter than the bag of groceries that mom drags from a walk. Balance bike models, with adjustable seat and handlebar height, can last almost until you buy a bike. So if possible, it is better to choose just such models. Cycling you can ride all year : summer and winter, spring and autumn. Some suppliers add two skis to the package, which are mounted on wheels. True, this only makes sense in those areas of the country where there is normal snow cover in winter. You can read more about what types of skis are for balance bikes and how to put them in the article "Skis for a balance bike". It is very good if several children from your company have balance bikes. Children become more sociable, they have a common hobby, their socialization is enhanced. They learn to communicate with each other. The last, and probably the most important plus - children like him very much .

But, like everything else, the balance bike has its downsides:
Some kids get pretty fast when riding, so it's highly recommended to wear a helmet and protection.
