Available on select FourTrax utility ATVs, out Automatic DCT takes care of the shifting so you don't have to
The Rancher’s Honda Automatic DCT transmission offers strong internals, fast shifts, excellent control, true compression-braking capability, and an automatic program that upshifts and downshifts while you concentrate on riding. It’s one of the best available choices you can make.
Being able to count on crisp performance and starting under any conditions is a must for anyone who depends on their ATV. Thanks to Honda Programmed Fuel Injection (PGM-FI)—featuring a 34mm throttle body, 12-hole injector, and an oxygen sensor that allows the fuel mapping to instantaneously adjust to any riding condition—the Rancher not only ensures trouble-free operation in the cold and at varying altitudes, it reduces emissions and enhances fuel efficiency.
Prior Model Year with Pre-production Tires ShownThe Rancher Automatic DCT with Independent Rear Suspension (IRS) has over 8 inches of travel and 9 inches of clearance. That returns two big benefits: first, it helps ensure constant tire contact with the ground for superior traction; second, it gives you a smooth ride over rough terrain, so you don’t get beat up on the trail.

No belts to slip or clutches to wear out on the Rincon—it features an automotive-style three-speed automatic transmission just like a truck’s, so you can depend on it for both a smooth ride and years of trouble-free service.
TraxLok® lets you select either two-wheel drive or four-wheel drive. Two-wheel drive gives you lighter steering on flat ground, while four-wheel drive maximizes available traction when you need it. Choosing between them couldn't be easier, and you get the best of both worlds.
The Rincon's Independent Rear Suspension (IRS) offers two big advantages: First, it helps ensure constant tire contact with the ground for superior traction; second, it gives you an ultra-smooth ride over rough terrain, so you don't get beat up on the trail.
Compact and lighter-weight, the Rincon’s overhead-valve, semi-dry-sump design creates an engine that's shorter from top to bottom. That returns two big benefits: it enhances handling by lowering the engine's center of gravity, and it also allows for greater ground clearance.

In the domestic market of motorcycles for active recreation, the Honda brand is not often found: if motorcycles are still somehow represented, then ATVs and ATVs are practically not represented and you can often find them for sale on the website . One way or another, the technique of this brand deserves attention, largely due to its technological isolation from the accepted standards for the design of ATVs. Which did not prevent, by the way, from gaining some popularity in the market.
Started in the post-war years, Honda initially specialized in the production of engines and lightweight mopeds, and a little later - in the development of motorcycles. The company's first ATV was released 20 years after the company was founded, in 1967. It was then that the first prototype of a modern ATV was developed, which was developed with an eye on utilitarian use and would become a reliable household helper. When companies like BRP and Polaris began to expand the use of ATVs a few years later, setting a sports direction, Honda also tried to change the vector to please the trends, but this venture was not successful and the company was not able to create any competitive sports ATVs.
As we have already noted, the key feature of Honda ATVs is the company's non-standard approach to the design of vehicles. For example, instead of a variator, a manual gearbox without a reduction converter is installed here. There is also no differential lock here - for some reason, the company's engineers decided that this was not necessary. However, despite this, the Honda TRX is very interesting and pleasant to drive. The interest here is largely due to the atypicality of the quadric itself, rather than to its outstanding properties. A reliable engine will allow you to effectively start at any speed. Semi-automatic control will allow you to get a really interesting and non-standard driving experience, but you should not talk about the possibility of effective participation in competitions on this ATV.
The Honda TRX range ranges from small displacement 450 watt models, which are especially popular with young people and are the most frequently bought ATVs in America, to heavy utility ATVs, which will be appreciated by those who want to get a reliable and loyal assistant in agriculture.
There are also all-terrain vehicles in the utility line, among which the Pioneer line should be especially highlighted. Like ATVs, the company's all-terrain vehicles also have their own characteristics. For example, the design of the all-terrain vehicle has a full-fledged automatic six-speed dual-clutch transmission, the box is capable of operating in three modes, and gear shifting can be done with paddle shifters. You would rather expect to see such a well-thought-out all-wheel drive system in cars than in ATVs.
Like ATVs, Honda Pioneer ATVs are not designed for sports use, but are great for touring. A powerful tipper body is capable of lifting up to 450 kg and will allow you to take another 900 kg in tow.
Determining the final cost of Honda ATVs is rather problematic due to the lack of their official dealer network in the Russian Federation. It is possible to order an ATV directly from the manufacturer, however, taking into account customs clearance, the price of motor vehicles in the top configuration will be comparable to the cost of BRP equipment.
You can pay attention to used equipment, but even in this case, the price will be quite high due to its reliability, unpretentious maintenance and long service life.
New Honda ATVs can only be purchased through private individuals with a full prepayment and a wait of about a month and a half for the ATV to finally reach you. You can also browse the bulletin boards where used Honda models are found from time to time.
But you will have to find a service center where you will service your ATV, as well as a place to buy spare parts yourself, since neither one nor the other is underdeveloped in Russia.

Today we will take a closer look at the new ATV from the famous Japanese manufacturer Honda Motor Co., Inc. We are talking about Model 9.0037 FourTrax Foreman Rubicon model year 2020. Before we start talking about our "character", let's deal with the model line of utility quads from Honda. The family of utility ATVs is assembled under the general name "FourTrax" and five models are included in this family. The smallest FourTrax Recon (229 cc starting at $4299.00) is the most affordable rear-wheel drive model at 197 kg. Next up is the FourTrax Rancher (420 sccm starting at $5499.00), a more powerful machine, also rear-wheel drive and weighing 265kg. The third model is the FourTrax Foreman (518cc starting at $739)9.00) - all-wheel drive model weighing 288 kg. Next comes the hero of our material FourTrax Foreman Rubicon (518 cc from $8699.00) - also an all-wheel drive quad, but with a more advanced transmission. Rounding out Honda's utility ATV family is the FourTrax Rincon (675cc starting at $9399.00), the most powerful 4×4 ATV with a full torque converter automatic transmission. The last two cars are considered flagship and have the "fattest" stuffing. So now we're back to our "character"...
Here is a 2020 model year Honda FourTrax Foreman Rubicon utility/recreational ATV. You could call this machine an advanced variation of the regular FourTrax Foreman and the main differences here are in the drivetrain. All of the three existing Foreman versions are equipped with a five-speed Electric Shift transmission with automatic clutch. Foreman Rubicon is offered in four modifications and the first simplest is also offered with the same transmission option. But the remaining three modifications of the Honda Rubicon come with an automatic transmission with two clutches DCT (Dual Clutch Transmission).
The Rubicon also features rear brakes - the simple Foreman has drum type rear brakes, while the Rubicon has disc brakes. At the same time, the Rubicon has a rear suspension travel of 14 mm. more. It is worth noting slight differences in overall dimensions for the Foreman Rubicon - a slightly longer length +50 mm., A slightly larger base +25 mm., A slightly higher seat +20 mm. But what has changed significantly is the ground clearance - 240 mm. Foreman Rubicon versus 190 mm. at the usual Foreman. Those were the main differences, now let's take a closer look at the 2020 Honda FourTrax Foreman Rubicon model itself.
Honda engines have always been known for their superior technology and this is certainly no exception. The new FourTrax Foreman Rubicon Utility ATV is powered by a single-cylinder, four-stroke, liquid-cooled, single-overhead-camshaft (OHV) gasoline engine. Engine displacement 518 cc, piston diameter 92.0 mm. with a piston stroke of 71.5 mm. The programmable fuel injection (PGM-FI) carburetor is responsible for the power supply, which makes the engine more flexible and more efficient overall. This motor is characterized by a quick response to the manipulation of the accelerator lever, and also demonstrates high fuel efficiency in a wider operating range. It is noteworthy that the engine for this quadric model received a 43 cc larger one. working volume - 518 cc. for 2020, vs 475cc for 2019of the year. The PGM-FI fuel injection system is tuned for maximum torque in the low to mid range.
The manufacturer places special emphasis on the low height of the engine block due to the semi-dry sump system and well-placed primary gearbox. Add here the longitudinal arrangement of the power unit and you get the perfect layout with a low center of gravity. The longitudinal placement of the engine, among other things, reduces losses at the corner nodes in the transmission. Torque is transmitted by straight shafts without loss.
The pride of Japanese engineers from Honda is a compact automatic transmission with dual clutch DCT (Dual Clutch Transmission). This box now features a new reverse gear that allows you to switch to single-lever mode, which is faster and easier in and of itself. Now the controls are duplicated in the area of the left steering handle. This quick access to reverse gear is especially useful for jobs that require constant shifting back and forth, such as when clearing snow or rocking the machine out of a mud trap.
Honda's DCT automatic transmission is initially equipped with two firmware cards - Sport and Cruise. As the name implies, these modes are "sharpened" for two driving styles - for aggressive and more measured. In the first case, the box switches later and makes it possible to rev the engine above average at the peak of torque, in the second case, the box works in comfort mode and switches at medium low revs.
In addition, the transmission of the new FourTrax Foreman Rubicon is equipped with a special Honda Electric Shift (ESP®) mode that allows manual transmission control. A very convenient feature - on the right steering handle there is a yellow selector that shifts the transmission control to manual mode, and on the left handle there are two buttons for upshifting or downshifting. The order of the current transmission is displayed on the main LCD display - a fairly large and noticeable symbol.
In addition to the availability of switching the transmission mode, the owner of the quadric also has access to the function of controlling the drive of the machine. Honda TraxLok® 2WD/4WD modes allow you to drive in both rear-wheel drive and all-wheel drive modes. The TraxLok electronic front differential lock will allow you to maximize front wheel traction.
According to Japanese engineers, the new FourTrax Foreman Rubicon ATV has an upgraded duplex steel frame that demonstrates a reasonable balance between rigidity and torsion. Indeed, in combination with an engine that has a low center of gravity, and with an exclusively longitudinal shaft system, such a frame is able to give the ATV exceptional properties of good handling. Honda took care to reduce vibration from the engine and exhaust system and therefore “planted” these components and their elements on new, more developed rubber cushions.
The ATV's suspension turned out to be quite energy-intensive and extremely successful in general. The design of the front suspension is independent on two transverse A-arms with a working stroke of 185 mm. The rear suspension has the same design and 216mm of travel. The quad moves very comfortably both on flat, dense soils and on more “furious” rocky areas, despite the fact that the car is equipped with stock quad tires measuring 25x8-12 in front and 25x10-12 in the rear. If you change these tires on an ATV to others, at least 26 inches, then the car will go even more smoothly. The front and rear suspension springs are preload adjustable, allowing the quad to be tuned for different loads or driving conditions.
Honda FourTrax Foreman Rubicon 2020-002
The front rotor has a diameter of 190mm and the rear 170mm. The brakes are great, there's nothing to say. Very distinct and predictable braking. Handles with excellent modulation - the operation of this system causes only positive emotions in the owners of the quadric.
Note the introduction of a new seat padding material - thicker and softer with a sporty non-slip outer padding. The luggage compartments have become larger and more load-bearing - the front is ready to take 45.0 kg, and the rear - 85.0 kg. At the same time, the reinforced towing device allows you to tow a trailer with a gross weight of 600 kg.
Now let's summarize how the new 2020 FourTrax Foreman Rubicon ATV model differs from the previous 2019 versionof the year.
