Be safe! Before you begin, check out the CPSC’s Home Playground Safety Handbook. We didn’t follow all their recommendations, but we did pay special attention to the “Hardware” and “Maintenance” sections.
Keep your tree safe! This arborists’ forum offers several options for mounting a tire swing without harming the tree, but the consensus, and the method that we used, is to encase the rope or chain that cinches to the tree limb with sturdy rubber or plastic tubing. Inspect this set-up regularly, so that you can remove the swing if the limb shows wear or damage.
Now, here are the tutorials. You can pick and choose, as we did, which parts to follow from several tutorials so that you end up with the perfect tire swing for you:
installing eye bolts around the tireVERY detailed tire swing instructable: If you’re not sure where to begin, THIS is the tutorial to begin with! The instructable includes tons of helpful photos, particularly of installing the eye bolts to the tire. Instead of using S-hooks to attach to the eye bolts, however, as the tutorial calls for, I suggest that you use locking carabiners, as we did. If they’re good for rocking climbing, they’re good for tire swings!
painted horizontal tire swing: This tutorial includes tips for painting your tire, and for picking up a free used tire from an auto repair shop. The mounting of this particular tire swing is similar to the way we mounted ours, except that we used eye bolts instead of U-bolts, and we mounted our tire at four points instead of three.
Popular Mechanics’ tire swing: This one’s for the diagram readers! The complete tire swing project is presented here as one diagram, suitable for printing and taking to your local hardware store for supplies. Pay careful attention to the tubing called for in this project–the tubing around the top is critical to protect your tree branch, and the tubing at the bottom is critical to protect tiny fingers. We used both sets, and have that lower set of tubing starting right at the tire.
tire swing with a built-in safety hazard: Although this tire swing project uses a recycled nylon recovery strap, which is lighter than chain, please note that any rope or strapping that you allow to hang down to a kid’s level is a strangulation hazard. My kids play hard, and there’s no way that I could trust them with this particular swing.
My kiddos LOVE their tire swing. They swing on it, they rest on it, they read on it, and it’s the source of uncountable imaginary games, both together and alone. When they’re both grown up, that tire swing will be the basis of many happy childhood memories.
And then they’ll build tire swings for their children!
Samples are perfect for previewing color and scale. However please note, due to our printing methods and design repeat sizes, we are unable to guarantee a specific portion of the design in a sample swatch.

There are many toys in the land of childhood. Girls are one, boys are completely different. But as soon as a building appears in the yard where you can ride, it attracts children of all ages, both boys and girls. Even if this swinging structure is unprepossessing, the children will still be delighted with it. Such an impression on them will be made even by a simple swing from a tire, which someone caring dad will build with his own hands.
The device of the simplest children's swing made of tiresIt will bring joy not only to your beloved child, children of the yard, but also to young people who are not averse to swinging on this simple device. Swinging structures, in addition to being fun for children and adults, also strengthen and develop the vestibular apparatus. Such are the usual tire swings. Any parent can build them.
If a child, when he rides in a car, gets sick, feels sick, then he should swing on this structure at least once a day. When rocking, all the muscles of the body are evenly loaded, and this makes the baby physically stronger and more self-confident. Weakness and dizziness will stop, fear of rapid movement and heights will disappear.

Material Content
Such devices have pros and cons. Positive aspects:
The disadvantage is the smell emanating from the rubber, which not everyone likes. You can get rid of it, or at least reduce it, if you paint the tire inside and out. It will also make it look more attractive.
First of all, they must be very reliable, as they are installed for the most privileged members of society - children. Therefore, a strong tire is needed, without cracks, damage. The tires of SUVs, tractors, trucks are preferred. But it is better if it is of medium size, so that it is convenient to swing for both children and adults.
Hang the tire on a strong rope or metal chain. So that the seat is securely held in a horizontal position, does not turn over, it can be made with triple fixation. From above, the device is attached to a horizontal crossbar, which can be a strong beam, a metal crossbar, or a thick branch of a strong tree.
The distance from the ground to the seat must be such that the child can easily climb onto it. The classic option is a double tire fastening with chains. It is the most durable, very comfortable, safe, because, while swinging, you can hold on with both hands. It is necessary to install a ground or suspended garden swing in the country so that playing children are always in front of their parents. When assembling ground structures using half rail as a support, always ensure their high stability.
Animal-shaped children's swing arrangementTo prevent the rocking-balancer from falling on its side, it is better to use both parts of the cut tire for the base, fastening them together along the entire semicircle. Handles should be made on the lever board for the children to hold on to while swinging.

It would seem that with such a limited material, one cannot count on diversity. But home craftsmen do wonders with their own hands. Therefore, tire products are as follows:
This is the classic version of the swing. Not a single playground in the yard can do without such a simple design. Two sit down on the edges of the board-lever and swing, then rising, then falling.
Instructions for making a ground rocking chair out of tireTo raise one arm of the swing, the child sitting on it pushes off the ground, and his partner lands on his feet.
Such devices are of the following types:
To make this DIY balancing device, you will need a solid, smooth board made of wood or some other material and a solid support for it. The original basis for the swing can be two car wheels with tires, connected along the axis by a metal cross member, to which a lever is attached in the center.
Children and adults like to swing on this structure. It is also convenient because it can be easily moved around your own yard or summer cottage. There is another version of the rocking chair-balancer.
Take a wide tire from the wheel of a large machine such as a tractor or tractor, cut it across and use one half as a support. You will also need two boards. One should be equal in size to the diameter of the tire and fit tightly into its upper part, where it is attached to the rubber with nails or self-tapping screws. The second, long, superimposed on the first and fastened to it.
For comfortable and safe rocking, handles should be attached to the board, preferably made of soft material. Holes must be drilled in the bottom of the tire so that water does not accumulate in its cavity.
More stable devices will be those that have two halves of the tire as a support.
They will need to be bolted together around the entire semicircle, and a long board should be attached on top. Rubber for greater attractiveness should be painted in bright colors, apply drawings.
An example of painting a children's swing from a tireYou can make a small swinging balancer with your own hands to decorate a children's room, moreover, without having special skills. The technology of its manufacture is the same, only the upper plank in length should not be more than the diameter of the tire. Swing while sitting on it, you can only sideways, left and right. Armrests must be made along the edges so that the child can hold on to them.
And if you ride the balancer from above, you get a new fun: it will be possible to swing back and forth. On one side, instead of a handle, you can fix a horse’s head carved from wood, and on the other, a tail. Such rocking chairs are very popular with small children. You can come up with a stylized figure of another animal. It depends on the ability and creative imagination of the pope.
They are also very easy to build yourself. The main thing is to find a suitable crossbar to hang them. It can be a horizontally growing thick tree branch, a beam in a barn, or a specially assembled metal structure. And as a seat, of course, a car tire is suitable.
You need to choose rubber without damage, and reinforce it with the more attractive side up.
Wash the bar well with detergent before attaching ropes or chains. The simplest swing is a tire hanging vertically on one rope or chain. Making them with your own hands is easy. They ride on such a swing, passing their legs through the wheel and hanging them from the other side.
The original design of the suspension swing made of tireThey swing with both hands on a single mount. But this is not very convenient. Such a device is usually suspended from a tree near the river itself, and the boys, standing on the tire, or grabbing its lower edge, swing as hard as possible, and then jump into the water. True, not every child will decide on such entertainment.
In the yard or in the country, it is better to make a swing, in which the horizontal seat is supported by a double mount. It is desirable that it be a metal chain. They attach it to the tire using cargo bolts that have a ring instead of a head. For them, holes are drilled in rubber, fixed, and S-shaped hooks are inserted into the eyes. They are threaded into the lower chain links and clamped with pliers.
Fastening hooks to the tireThe upper ends of the hangers are fixed on the crossbar. For convenience, a round wooden board is placed on the tire, and a pillow or rug is placed on top of it.
There is another version of the hanging swing - a cradle made of tires. It is also made by hand. With a shoe knife or other cutting tool, the protector is cut in a circle to the power ring from the metal cord, leaving only a part of the rubber for the seat. From above, ropes or a chain are attached to the resulting circles and suspended from the crossbar. On such a device, even very small children can be rocked.
You can cut anything out of rubber from a tire. By bending it, you can make a chair with a back. Home craftsmen make swings in the form of various animals and birds. Sometimes near a private house there is a figurine of a horse, on which a baby is swinging, sitting on horseback. Some make rubber birds, dragons, even cars and motorcycles. Children enthusiastically climb onto such rocking chairs. The fantasy of dads is limitless and they willingly share it on the World Wide Web.
How can you further ennoble the territory adjacent to the house? The acquisition of decorative landscape elements is not affordable for everyone.
But don't worry: territories can be given an unusual look and at minimal cost . One of the ways to ennoble the site on your own is garden figures from car tires. Used tires are available for free at most services. The only resource that will be required in large quantities will be time.
At first glance, it seems that it will not be possible to achieve an interesting result, but the examples below can overcome the pessimistic attitude.
Tires are the right material for the most interesting ideas. Due to the fact that you don’t feel sorry for them, you can implement your ideas for an unlimited number of attempts, after which you will definitely get funny country crafts from car tires. What kind of non-trivial constructions can be made?
from the old tire is not formalized in any way. Such a decision looks faded and uninteresting. With a little effort, these products can be significantly transformed: you can make any image or object out of old tires with your own hands.
To create an interesting combination, you will need paint, a large knife, wire and a little imagination. Two flower beds can be placed opposite each other, depicting tea couples. To implement the idea, you need 4 tires. To make the flower beds in the form of cups, rubber of a smaller radius will be used in the lower tiers, and larger tires in the upper tiers.
Additional elements of the composition can be made from the outer sidewalls of large tires. These pieces are enough to create a saucer-like rim at the base of a smaller diameter tire and handles for cups. It is desirable to fasten all parts of the structure with a wire.
Color the resulting cups and saucers better in bright colors . If the house has an interesting service, an enlarged copy of it on the site will be an excellent solution. The result is an attractive flowerbed of tires.
In addition to this composition, you can organize other unusual solutions: hanging tires with a plywood base nailed to a tree or folding them into interesting geometric shapes.

Although these elements do not carry a functional load, they will give the cottage a soulfulness. Hosts, guests and, most importantly, children will definitely smile at the sight of garden figurines from tires.
They are inspired by cartoons, fairy tales and legends. They represent an inexhaustible source of fantasy. With the help of the simplest tool and available materials, you can create characters such as a fabulous frog, a swan princess, or a steadfast tin soldier.
By cutting the tires in half and connecting them in the form of waves, you can get the Gorynych Serpent. However, for a better similarity, you need to work. From the finely chopped parts of the tires, it will be possible to create scales and the head of this monster.
For greater resemblance to the original, it is better to attach additional elements from improvised materials to the figurines.
You can not get around the option to make comfortable furnishings out of tires. Inside the house, tables, chairs, chairs, the basis of which is rubber, upholstered on the outside with materials of different textures and colors, will look interesting.
The simplest items, such as ottoman , can be made from old tires with your own hands, spending less than an hour on the process. The upholstery will be attached to each other inside the tire. You can also use plywood sheets screwed to the sidewall of the tire with a screwdriver.
The only important parameter is the condition of the cord . If it sticks out, then it is better to use another tire, since it will be uncomfortable to sit on such a pouffe.

Nothing can delight children like swings . The place where they are installed inevitably becomes the center of attraction for the attention of all household members. By using tires for the construction of a swing, you can significantly save on costs and provide better safety for small family members.
If there is a large tree on the site, then it will not be difficult to make this structure. For stability, the branch must be parallel to the ground and be ready for loads. From the tools you will need a jigsaw and a knife. And in addition to the tire, you will need to find a strong rope or chain. If the latter is used, then you will additionally need carabiners for attaching the tire.
If a rope is used, the procedure will be as follows:
If children are still very young, it is recommended that their use of the facility be supervised by adults.
How to make a tire swing: video
There are more non-trivial designs of tire swings in the country. From tires, you can cut a swing of the most unusual shape, reminiscent of animals or fairy-tale characters.
One of the most popular ways of "reincarnation" of tires that have fallen into disrepair is the creation of paths in the country. This method of use allows you to maintain cleanliness in a country house even under the most adverse weather conditions.
Compared to concreting, this option does not involve huge costs. Another advantage of a track made of old tires is that it does not sink into the ground like gravel and will last a long time.
For fast work it is better to choose the largest possible diameter of the rubber. Such blanks will significantly reduce the time spent on the manufacture of tracks.
In addition to tires, you will need wide boards, as well as self-tapping screws or nails. From the tool you will need to prepare a large sharp knife, screwdriver or hammer.
The technology itself is not complex and consists of the following steps:
To add a fun touch to tire garden paths, the rubber can be pre-painted. At the same time, it is important that the coating is not slippery in winter or during rainfall. Otherwise, there is a risk of injury.
A great idea is to make slips for country stairs from old tires with your own hands. This will give a more aesthetic appearance to the old steps and prevent the danger of slipping.
There are really a huge number of ideas for creative use of tires. However, there are a number of crafts and structures that are most often found in the dachas of compatriots. What is the most popular choice?
An interesting option is swimming pool from an old tire. For such a structure, you will need to look for a large tire used on a large tractor or special equipment.
Preparing a pool is easy. The work will consist in attaching material to the tire, which forms an airtight bottom, resting on a dense surface.
You will need the following materials and tools:
Since the bottom of the pool will be made of thin material, you should select an installation site in advance that is free from sharp stones, branches, and other objects that could damage the bottom or cause injury. On the other hand, this area should not be soft. Otherwise, the glued material will probably come off at the seam.
At the first stage, it will be necessary to prepare the surfaces of the elements to be glued, in the place of their future contact. To do this, you need to clean them of fat using any suitable tool.
Next, the cleaned surfaces are smeared with adhesive and connect. At the same time, you should not feel sorry for him, since the excess can be removed, and if there is a shortage, the pool may leak. When the glue sets, you will need to turn the wheel over so that the seam is under pressure.
After a day, the contact point from the inside of the pool is treated with amazon-sealant . After an additional 24 hours, it will be possible to pour water inside and enjoy swimming in hot weather.
This bird is one of the most common country figures. Having shown sufficient perseverance, you can upholster an interesting result. For work, one car tire, thick wire, two small clamps supporting the swan's neck, as well as white and red paint will be enough.
As a tool, you will need an electric jigsaw with the ability to cut metal threads, as well as a marker. To protect the eyes and body from the ingress of sawdust formed when cutting the cord, it is better to use tight clothing and work glasses.
The work will consist of the following parts:
The result should be a swan that can be used as a flower bed. In addition to this option, there are other ways to make this figure.
Video tutorial on how to make a swan out of a tire
If, as a result of a raid by rodents or winter cold, you had to cut the branches of garden trees, you can improve the situation by temporarily making a palm tree out of an old tire. To do this, you need treads separated from the tires, which can be shaped into tropical leaves. The surprise of the neighbors will be guaranteed!
The treads, separated from the sidewalls, painted in green, are very reminiscent of a crocodile. The image of reptiles can be supplemented with an open mouth, for which it is possible to characteristically fix sections of the tread. Triangular teeth should be cut out of small fragments of rubber and painted in a light color and attached to a crocodile.
It will not be difficult to make an elephant. Enough even one tire. Half of it forms the body, and the protector of the other part will become the trunk. From the sides you get excellent ears. For tusks, you can use the landing elements of the tire.
Turtle figures are also very popular. It is enough to attach 4 small tread elements imitating paws to a lying car tire, and the same parts for the head and tail. After coloring, you will get an interesting flower bed, resembling a creature that is in no hurry.
Tires standing in a row, cut in half, serve as a very convenient bike parking. Elastic rubber will hold the wheel of any size.
If the old tire is on the rim, it does not need to be removed. After a short work with a jigsaw, the wheel will become a reliable stand for an unusual flowerpot.
Aggressive piranha, attached to a stalk in the middle of the garden, will scare away thrushes and other arrogant lovers of country plantings.
A donkey moving a flower bed on wheels is a very non-trivial dacha installation that any guest of a country house will appreciate.
If there is a swing for people, then why not make a swing for flowers. Suddenly they start to bloom better!
The swans are already there. Apparently there will be a lake soon!
The pink flamingo is sure to become a favorite of every little household.
Crocodile from an old tire
You can decorate a summer cottage or just a courtyard near the house with ordinary old wheels, and many handicraft masters make real masterpieces with their own hands! Indeed, in our country, the recycling of used tires is not at the highest level, and we can see a lot of tires thrown right into the street. But you can also combine business with pleasure and create crafts - decorations for a summer cottage, garden, orchard with your own hands. Let's see a selection of photo crafts from a tire:

Well, at the end of our photo collection, let's watch a video in which I also use tires for needlework and which will be a good addition:
DIY tire crafts
That's all, we hope you liked the photo selection of crafts from tires and tires with your own hands , see you on our pages!
Do you have a garden and old tires that you don't need? Then you just have to make a cute craft. It will become the pride of your site if you do everything diligently and accurately. No special financial costs are required for this, but the time is needed from a couple of hours to a couple of days.
Now let's move on to more labor-intensive tire crafts. In fact, they are only slightly more complicated than the previous ones. You will see for yourself when you get acquainted with the master classes.
Making a swan
Manufacture involves cutting, so it is best to use very worn rubber with a longitudinal pattern. The first stage of work is markup. Draw a swan's neck on the tire as shown in the photo. It should take up approximately half the length of the tire. Next, draw the outlines of the head (about 10 cm long) and the beak (slightly shorter). The tail will begin where the beak originates, and therefore will have a forked end. Make it the same width as the neck, and let it be about 30 cm long.
Now it's time to move on to cutting. Depending on the condition and thickness of the rubber, do the work with a shoe knife, grinder or electric jigsaw. Cutting on both sides of the tire is best done in parallel. Having finished cutting, we proceed to turning the workpiece.
Tire swan — master class
The next step is to strengthen the neck and tail. To do this, along these parts, make two holes every 15 cm. In them you will thread metal brackets that will hold a hard rod. After that, the neck and tail need to be given a beautiful bend.
The final stage is painting. You can make yourself either a white or a black swan. Let the beak be red. That's all.
Glam pot
We have previously looked at simple flowerpots made from tires for the garden plot. Now turn your attention to a more complex and attractive option. Draw a gigzag line on the tire and cut along it. When finished, turn the tire inside out. The cut off part usually serves as a stand. Now take some outdoor paint of any color and finish your flowerpot.

Silent lake
Human imagination is inexhaustible. Craftsmen from the people work real miracles with the fact that pragmatic consumers send to the scrap. Almost everything is used: broken pots, seashells, pebbles, old appliances and other utensils that are no longer used for their intended purpose, but acquire a second life when the hands of the master touch it. And, of course, the list of "raw materials" for practical decor is not complete without obsolete car tires.
Previously, only economy-class playgrounds were made of them, today they have come up with many more creative applications: photo crafts from car tires that accompany our article are a clear confirmation of this.
The simplest, in our opinion, tire product - dining or coffee table . Glue two or three pre-cleaned and painted tires (depending on how high you want to get), fasten any alternative countertop on top: wood, plastic, glass, or simply glue the tire with twine. Movable wheels attached to the bottom will add mobility to the product.
Add another one to an unusual table tire product - ottoman or armchair . Cut out a circle from chipboard or thick plywood to fill the cavity inside the tire, put a couple of layers of foam rubber on top - the pouffe should be comfortable. The upholstery for such an “armchair” can be knitted, sewn from any fabric or an old plaid into a spectacular Scottish cage. The legs are made from blocks, and the back is made from another tire, cut in half.
Crafts from tires for will not let your child get bored, providing him with a productive and exciting leisure time. Tape the old wheel with colored twine, and cut a "cover" for it to size - you get a handy box for children's outdoor toys.
A massive tire from a truck easily turns into, and a pair of tires suspended from a tree will simultaneously become swing and balancing projectile.
