We’ll factor in the unique usage of your vehicle and ensure that you receive quality service tailored to your specific needs. Here’s how to get started.

Document the details.

Creating a custom preventative maintenance plan requires some initial information about your vehicle or vehicles. Because no two trucks are alike, it’s important to maintain documentation to ensure that your plan is effective. Keep stock of each vehicle using the following information:

  • Name of owner

  • Vehicle Identification Number (VIN)

  • Fleet number (if applicable)

  • Make, model, and year

  • Tire brand and size

  • All maintenance schedules for the vehicle

Plan accordingly.

Each truck will require a different maintenance schedule based on key benchmarks such as usage, engine hours, fuel levels, and mileage. Make sure you closely monitor these indicators for each vehicle and schedule accordingly. Additionally, when possible, you can schedule opportunistically, so it’s also important to monitor routes and know when your truck will be near your preferred service station.

Inspect regularly.

A good preventive maintenance plan requires routine observations and pre-trip inspections to ensure your vehicle is running properly in between appointments. It’s a good idea to create a schedule that includes regular monitoring of the following areas:

  • Tires

  • Brakes

  • Fluids

  • Electrical

Contact us.

Once you have proper documentation and a general understanding of your vehicle’s health, it’s time to schedule routine service appointments. It’s a good idea to consider both seasonal factors and mileage to determine the best schedule.

Tri-State Truck Center is here to help you at every stop along the way. Contact us today to find out more about how we can help keep your vehicle in top-notch condition.

Scania FLEX. Flexible maintenance plan

August 1, 2018

In the spring of 2018, Scania-Rus announced the launch of a personal flexible maintenance plan - Scania FLEX. In Russia, this type of service is practiced for the first time. It includes a unique flexible rolling stock maintenance program to keep the fleet running. Simply put, the new tool is designed to increase the profitability of the business partners of a truck supplier.

Whose initiative?

The new product was personally presented by Denis Titov, Director of the Service Market Department of Scania-Rus LLC. He spoke about the latest history of innovative packages and services for Russian carriers. In particular, the fact that the company has been working towards the Scania FLEX program for four years!

If in 2013 only 12% of purchased new Scania trucks had service contracts, in 2017 their number increased to 80%. Today, only one out of five Swedish trucks bought by customers is not covered by a maintenance contract, the rest are “in business”.

Why did you suddenly need a new truck service tool? Because there was a need. Studies of 20 thousand cars by European specialists showed that some of the equipment was re-serviced. In this regard, in 2015, the Scania FLEX program was introduced, which began to be used in Russia in 2018, taking into account the specifics of transportation: trunk, construction, urban, special.

The program includes 17 factors, from fuel consumption and the number of stops to the type of terrain and road surface. The works were divided into 30 small modules, which were combined with each other. This approach helps to neutralize the manager's error. Initially, the interval between maintenance is set to the maximum, but in relation to the business of customers, it can be reduced. And vice versa: with favorable performance indicators, it can be increased.

Service packages

In the new decade, owners in the transport industry have a need to additionally control all fleet costs. The answer to the challenge of the times was the installation of the Fleet Management System (FMS) on all Scania vehicles since July 2013. It allows you to track the geography of the trip, engine speed, the number of normal and emergency braking, fuel consumption. It also evaluates the behavior of the driver using Scania Driver Support.

In the first year of the introduction of this innovation, 1554 Scania vehicles were connected to the FMS, and in 2017 there were already 16,843 of them! The share of such cars reached 94%! In July 2015, a new comprehensive product for efficient management, Scania Drive, was introduced. In fact, it became the first step towards the active development of a comprehensive proposal. In 2017, about 40% of vehicles with such a package were shipped, which was twice as high as in 2016. And in 2018, the share of Scania Drive increased to 54%! For comparison: the service package "Optima" is chosen by 31% of carriers, and "Business" - by 15%. The new service package can be chosen not for one year, but for five years!

In 2016, the "Scania Rent" program was launched, designed to satisfy seasonal demand lasting from one to 12 months. The rental price is calculated based on the planned life of the truck and is paid in monthly fixed payments. The price includes insurance against the risks "Theft + Damage" with an unlimited number of persons admitted to management. Maintenance and repairs can be carried out at any authorized Scania dealer.

In addition to diesel trucks, customers were also offered vehicles running on methane. Such truck tractors, in particular, were chosen by large motor transport enterprises, for example, Business Lines. Currently, there are more than 150 units in customer fleets. Scania commercial vehicles running on methane.

Scania now offers a truly unique set of business tools for monitoring and analyzing machine operating conditions. At the same time, the new service is being introduced to improve the efficiency of the fleet and reduce repair costs. With a new service solution for 2018, the company takes another step towards the active development of a comprehensive offer.

Taking into account the specifics of operation of each vehicle and the exclusive scope of customer equipment, Scania-Rus has developed a unique Scania FLEX service offer. This is an individual maintenance plan for each client, taking into account the specific loading of the vehicle. It is available at all 60 Scania dealers in Russia, including not only customer vehicles, but also rental vehicles.

Data acquisition

To draw up a personal maintenance plan, information is collected. A communicator is mounted on the vehicle, which automatically transmits data on the technical condition of the truck to the FMS fleet monitoring system. Information comes in real time. On their basis, an optimal maintenance schedule is developed individually for each unit of rolling stock.

The maintenance plan drawn up according to operational data is not monolithic and “inviolable”. On the contrary, with significant changes in operating conditions, it is automatically corrected. Influencing factors can be weather and road conditions, the degree of loading, speed, number of braking, etc. At the same time, the service station informs the client in advance of the date of the next MOT and the time for its implementation. And at the same time, the carrier chooses the optimal time for visiting the truck center.

With a flexible service plan, customers only visit the dealership when the vehicle needs it. And the carrier receives only those services that are needed at the moment, no more, but no less. You don't need to have seven spans in your forehead to understand: the advantages of Scania FLEX are obvious.

They lie in the fact that properly planned maintenance reduces the likelihood of breakdowns, failures and unscheduled repairs. A high level of monitoring and diagnostics allows you to increase the uptime of the vehicle and the level of its safety. The client receives time savings, saves nerves, avoids fuss and really saves on operating costs.

It is appropriate to recall the Scania Exchange spare parts exchange program. It allows you to purchase an original part remanufactured at the Scania factory in Sweden at a lower price. Thus, Scania owners have plenty of opportunities to get the most out of their vehicles at the lowest operating costs.

Denis TITOV, Director of Service Operations of Scania-Rus LLC:

– Every year, the share of demand for service contracts is growing in relation to the total sales figures, and we cannot ignore this fact. The Scania maintenance program is a carefully thought-out system of actions to keep your fleet running. And now, due to the introduction of modern intellectual technologies, it has become even more efficient.

Wojciech ROWINSKY, CEO OOO Scania-Rus:

– The company provides a comprehensive partnership approach and builds reliable long-term relationships with customers. We differ from our competitors in that we offer a complex that can make our partners' business even more efficient and profitable. Our customers acquire not only high-quality equipment, but also a whole range of individually designed solutions.

Irina BAILO, Head of Service Contracts and Business Analysis Department of Scania-Rus LLC:

– The main point of using Scania FLEX is not to increase the maintenance interval, but to do the right work on a particular vehicle. But the benefit can also be obvious: for example, an increase in the maintenance interval for vehicles of the main range, on average, is from 5000 km.
