Today's Featured Article - Oil Bath Air Filters - by Chris Pratt. Some of us grew up thinking that an air filter was a paper thing that allowed air to pass while trapping dirt particles of a particles of a certain size. What a surprise to open up your first old tractor's air filter case and find a can that appears to be filled with the scrap metal swept from around a machine shop metal lathe. To top that off, you have a cup with oil in it ("why would you want to lubricate your carburetor?"). On closer examination (and some reading in a AC D-14 service manual), I found out that this is a pretty ingenious method of cleaning the air in the tractor's intake tract. ... [Read Article]

CityCycle Bike Workshop

Not every oily liquid is suitable for lubricating bicycle components. Sunflower oil, like bicycle lubricant, is bad because it creates all the conditions for the formation of corrosion. And particles of dirt and dust very quickly stick to such oil - believe my tail.

After thorough cleaning, the bike components should be lubricated with one of the following:

Teflon grease. One of the most effective remedies. Such a lubricant forms a thin layer on the surface, to which dust and cat hair do not stick.

Wax (paraffin) lubricant. Creates a thick layer on the surfaces of parts, dries, does not attract dirt, but wears off a little faster than Teflon. This grease cannot be used in cold weather, it thickens, the chain does not spin, and you are sitting in a blanket with a cup of cocoa and a cat on your lap!

Silicone grease. Reduces friction of parts, often contains substances that repel dust.

Graphite grease (not to be confused with modern powder grease). Well protects the chain from wear, corrosion, easily penetrates into hard-to-reach places due to its consistency, but be prepared for kilograms of dirt!

Gear and sewing machine oils. Budget lube. All in all, they do the job of lubricating, but I swear to my mustache, don't use them unless you're eating motor oil sandwiches.

In order for the bike to serve you longer, it is necessary to clean it and lubricate all working parts in a timely manner. It will not work to remove grease and dirt residues with ordinary water; for this, it is better to use a rag and brush moistened with a special cleaner. For the most effective cleaning of the chain, it is recommended to remove it and soak it for a while in a container with the same agent.

No matter what lubricant you use, keep your bike up to date and use sunflower oil for food only.

All meow and clean chains!

    all news

No wonder they say that everything new is forgotten old, the engineers of GT Radial made sure of this once again. They added a natural ingredient - sunflower oil - to the composition of rubber for their new winter tires, and they did not fail. Presentations and tests of the novelty GT Radial WinterPro HP at Autopromotec proved it. The new WinterPro HP winter tires are designed specifically for those who demand safety and driving precision even in the most difficult conditions. The HP Pro winter models are the result of state-of-the-art manufacturing technologies and compare favorably with their predecessor in a number of ways: increased confidence when driving in cold weather, increased grip on dry, wet and snowy roads.

    Asymmetric tread pattern

Designed for sporty and modern SUVs, WinterProHP tires feature a unique asymmetric tread design. The new tread pattern provides excellent grip on snow, high performance, increased safety at corner exits, and improved braking. The new GT Radial WinterPro HP also enhances driving quality and enjoyment. The lamellas of various shapes allow for increased adhesion to the ground and increased grip on ice and snow. Three large longitudinal grooves help evacuate water and snow while maintaining maximum contact with the road surface. Large center ball improves water and mud dispersion in all road conditions.

    Sunflower Oil Added

Sunflower oil added to the rubber compound improves cold weather traction, wet braking and grip, and improves overall performance on snow.
